game shuts down on startup
i've been trying to play farcry 3 but i can't get it to work, hopefully some off you can help me fix it. so whenever i click play the ubisoft laucher will open and load like it should, the game will then open in a small window in the top left for a few seconds and then close itself.
I already installed older Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable x86 and x64 and i already installed dx9. I also tried running as admin, and lauching direct from the bin file, but that didn't fix the problem.

do you have an intel cpu? Had a similar problem, think the game is just broken and ubisoft support has gone silent on me :/ a bunch of people recommended this page, although none of the fixes worked for me it might for you.

Hey Krieg and The_Crew_God

I'm sorry to hear that Far Cry 3 crashes on your PCs.

You mentioned an Intel CPU. If you are using a modern Intel CPU with a hybrid design that includes performance (P) cores, efficiency (E) cores, and hyperthreading, you may want to try switching off the efficiency cores and hyperthreading in your BIOS. Keeping only the performance cores active can help improve stability and performance in some situations.

Here are also some steps that can help:
- Switch to DirectX 9 and adjust graphics settings
Launch Far Cry 3 and open the Video Settings menu. Change the API from DirectX 11 to DirectX 9.
- Lower MSAA to Off or 2x, as higher anti‑aliasing values in this area can cause the engine to freeze. Apply the changes and restart the game. You can switch back to DirectX 11 after completing the mission.
- Cap framerate and adjust CPU affinity
If the game runs above 60 FPS while loading the pirate wave AI scripts around the ship, it can cause a desync in the game logic and result in a crash. Limiting your framerate and adjusting core usage can help improve stability in this section.
- CPU affinity
Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), click the Details tab, and right-click farcry3_d3d11.exe.
Select Set Affinity and uncheck all boxes except for CPU 0, CPU 1, CPU 2, and CPU 3 (limiting the game to 4 cores).

And one more, extra step:
- Disable Windows Exploit Protection (Control Flow Guard) for the game.
Windows 10 and Windows 11 include security features that can interfere with older game engines, which can lead to crashes.
Press the Windows key, type “Exploit Protection,” and open it.
Go to the Program Settings tab and select “Add program to customize.”
Choose “Choose exact file path” and navigate to your Far Cry 3 bin folder.
Add both farcry3_d3d11.exe and farcry3.exe.
Scroll to Control Flow Guard (CFG), check “Override system settings,” set it to Off, and click Apply.

I hope this helps you fix the game crashing on your system. Thanks for giving these steps a try. If you need anything else, feel free to reach out and we’ll be here to support you.
None of what you stated works on this i9 13900KS with a 4090, Win 11. And I have 1200+ games on here, never encountered such a bs issue. Every single resolution still results in the FarCry3 Splash being open and the game itself never opens.

Every single suggestion.

Why you are able to sell a title without it auto-patching and being ready to go is beyond me. Especially since the company is still around, not dissolved.
