Was multiplayer an afterthought/Gimmick to get us to buy the game?
TLDR: If a publisher advertises multiplayer as a core feature and charges full price for the package, players have every right to expect it to work properly. "Main focus" doesn't give developers a free pass for broken secondary features.

Gundam did this same thing with the "lobby hanger" we all spawn at and it failed. I am really happy they are trying to add what I always wanted, but its really bad, and I feel like we got a little tricked over this. I really hope they completely overhaul this. Especially since they have added micro-transactions to such a limited experience. The menus system is truly annoying. ADF Morgan spam. Very little true coop here, and no custom game ability what so ever?

Imagine grabbing 2 or 3 buddies and doing a mission list and challenges etc... and not being forced into this weird PVP mess. Some little things can help a lot. Sort of like fixing memory issues and adding FOV slider for those who need it. :)

NB4 "if you got an ace combat game for multiplayer you are the problem"
Ace Combat has featured dedicated multiplayer for DECADES, along with Ace Combat Joint Assault, 7 and, especially Infinity. Not to mention the couch coop of the PS2 games. This isn't a random last minute addition. It was a well thought out and advertised heavily.

Online feels like half-baked f2p spinoff
You aren't wrong, Ragvard. :( I am really hoping they do better.
i'd say its an afterthought yeah but not technically a scam, aye the multiplayer is cheaply made and not at all designed well but focus was always going to be the singleplayer campaign

then again the multiplayer was advertised as this big grand thing and that didn't obviously turn out to be true so it is a scam that way
Hey true Vahjkyriel. I think I will reword to match that wording. :) The multiplayer was looking like it was supposed to be a big deal. Having micro transactions in that mess is just odd.

It is based off of the Infinity model minus the fuel system, so... in a way, yes it's based off of a F2P game.

Personally there's a lot more issues with the multiplayer than just the grind; missions are too short to properly enjoy, which also lends to the issues that anyone using LAAMs tend to hog the A2A kills, leaving nothing for anybody not using the meta planes to do as just one example. (btw morgan spam isn't really that bad, if you see any planes using LAAMs you might as well just give up not getting any A2A kills yourself.)

I do hope we get a proper lobby system like Infinity though.

Also yes, speed up the menu screens please. Or even just have them all rendered AC7 style so the menu transitions don't take forever.
If anyone bought an AC game, a series always focused on single player, for multiplayer - that's purely on them.
That's like buying Resident Evil just because they've added TDM.
Weizgriff...

That analogy doesn't work. Dogfighting in a flight sim/arcade shooter is natural; TDM in a survival horror game is an auxiliary experiment.

Beyond that, Ace Combat has had multiplayer modes for nearly 20 years across AC6, Infinity, and AC7. When a developer includes and advertises a mode in a $70 product, holding them accountable for its quality isn't "on the player". It's standard consumer expectations
its okay but quite boring as people with higher ping just seem to blast stuff before you can even notice it .LAAM spamming ruins it for A2A players ,like when you dont have them ,good luck. same with either the morgan and anything with bombs, good luck getting anything before they get everything. i thought myself id be playing the multiplayer since i really liked AC infinty´s multiplayer, which this basically is but i cant get myself past dailiy and weekly missions because of above problems
What they really need is a coop mode that lets you play with just your party, so you can do stuff as a 4 flight with friends and just have a jolly time without having to compete in a coop mode. Making some of the destruction missions from this game and previous, bigger timers and more targets would be a lot nice.

Addressing LAAMs would also be a nice step, but i highly doubt they'll do anything about it sadly, Bombs are silly cus you can have the F4E with both bomb size upgrades and the UGB ability, meaning you just have bombs the size of the MPBM of the Morgan, but on a way shorter cooldown to delete ground targets. (Honestly the Morgan is a good backup in dogfights as a cleanup, but that's about it.)
True osssssszuzu. I am really, really hoping they do something more here. Its a great idea.

Chesire JJ Yeah man exactly what I want. That just makes sense.

I agree. I think the devs seriously overestimate the longevity and worth of Aces Online as it stands right now.

I bought the game for the single player first and foremost and AC8 has been great for that. But the multiplayer is not that good and expects a dedicated grind like it was the primary mode of play.
