This looks very similar to the first Nier in style, is it close tematically as well?
just my question above, I loved the original Nier on the PS4 (Gestalt version in my case)

Kind of but not really. Nier MC has an actual personality unlike the one here, the world here is in a much worse state, there's less focus on characters by far and this is mostly a straight combat game with some narrative, an annoyingly large amount of which is easy to miss the encounters for, whereas Nier is very story and character focussed to hide its kind of ass gameplay.
Outside of the setting being kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ they're very different

Oh, this game looks thematically close to Fragile Dreams, Dolls Nest, Code Vein, God Eater, Freedom Wars, God Hand, Scarlett Nexus, Drakengard (Nier is a spinoff of Drakengard), Digital Devil Saga (and most non Persona SMT games), Tokyo Xanadu, and many, many others (excluding battle arena games based on famous animes)

This game has no story really. It's nothing like Nier Automata in this regard. It is a good looking game, and I enjoy it mechanically. Combat is souls-like.
