Half-Life 2: Deathmatch

A call for respect in HL2:DM: Taunting vs. Humiliation..!
"Hi community,I want to open a discussion about the sportsmanship and respect in HL2:DM. Lately, I've been seeing a trend that goes beyond competitive banter. Winning a fight is great, but repeatedly taunting, shooting, or crowbarring a defeated player's body while the whole server watches crosses the line into pure humiliation. It doesn’t matter if it happens between strangers or friends; nobody deserves to be looked down upon or degraded just because they lost a round. HL2:DM has a dedicated player base, and we should be welcoming new or less experienced players instead of pushing them away with toxic behavior.Taunting is a game mechanic, but using it to publicly humiliate someone ruins the fun for everyone. Let’s show some respect to our opponents and keep the community healthy. What are your thoughts on setting better standards for sportsmanship in our matches?"

----"To put it bluntly: I despise people who behave like this. You are not skilled, you are just pathetic."

This doesn't happen in the communities I know and participate in. Time for you to pick a better server if that is your issue. What are rounds anyway? Most servers are not round based.
Please upload video evidence of what you speak of, as I think you are in the wrong place. This reads more like a fAssPather from another source game trying to brigade hl2dm, but I cannot confirm that at this time.

The ragdoll 'bodies' that you view in 3rd person are only normally 'viewed' for 3-5 seconds max on any server using mp_forcerespawn 1, and even on servers with no force respawn, this is an ARENA shooter. People respawn rights away in a FFA pub.

There are no 'rounds' in actual hl2dm pub or scrimmage gameplay, if you don't know what those terms are, you have not really played hl2dm. As Henky suggested, you were likely playing a custom mod on a niche server.

Taunting is NOT a game mechanic in hl2dm. There is no 'key' to press for a 'taunt' in this game, unless you count Henky's dance mod, but again - that's a literal mod that is on a custom server. It's not a Valve feature.

You appear to not actually be playing hl2dm or not understanding where you are exactly, so again, feel free to upload gameplay footage or demos in order to show what you are attempting to talk about.

He has post history for HL2DM so this is not random and out of the blue, I just wonder what server caused the bad experience but it does seem like a legitimate HL2DM player not a malicious alt.
I suppose 3 posts over the course of a year could suggest being a non-native English speaker rather than an alt, yes.

Anywho, anyone on these boards is free to use whatever language they wish. The rest of us can translate.

But yeah, the impulse 201 is called "spray-paint" in English, not Taunt, in case that is what OP meant.
Author has been watching people play on SF EU/RU for a while.

He is generally a nice person, based on how he talked to me and to others :steamhappy:

He probably saw that some compo players do indeed shoot somebody's ragdoll or spray somebody after killing them... this can lead to one of two reactions:

1. Laughs and giggles if it was done between friends.
2. Despise and anger, also considered bad sportsmanship, if it was done between randoms or people who don't or did not necessarily get along as much.

If it was the first case, then the author should not feel sad, because its like a friendly banter, or sibling fight :steammocking:

If it was the second, then yea it can be considered toxic, but we cant really control how certain... people... behave. Just learn to ignore. IF what he was doing damages a community and causes hatred and infighting, then yea, stand up to them, otherwise just learn to ignore, nobody is perfect :steamhappy:

Actually, I wasn't just speaking for myself; this applies to everyone. It’s not so much about dying, but rather the fact that they mock you even while you're still alive—that applies to everyone. And yes, buddy, I’ve never actually played HL2 DM; I’m just jumping in here. Are you okay? You’re replying as if you know everything; it’s not right to write to someone you don’t know like that—maybe you’re one of them, too.

My goal here is actually to get new players to love this game—if things go on like this, we’ll be shutting up shop in three to five years.:steammocking:

I can't tell if you're serious right now, but if you are, you appear to be* misunderstanding the culture of hl2dm. This would be like trying to get people to move to Istanbul with you, but you don't like cats and don't want to learn how to speak Turkish. That would be self-defeating.

And to add to what Humam said, if you see people that (you think) are acting like fAssFaces and trolling, do report them to their communities' managers or admins. eFPS and SF servers, for instance, would not tolerate players trolling others all the time, even as a joke.

But I am like 69% certain that you understand (or are learning) the banter behind this game, and you now are just joking with the other users in this thread. If so, yeah, that's hl2dm. Welcome.

If humam is correct and you are comparing a competitive matching server with a new player experience I don't think that is a fair comparison to make. Obviously competitive matching will have some bragging / trash talk going on, its competitive players being competitive with each other.

New players aren't going to sit in spectate for ages to finally be drafted for a match, they want to play and play on public servers. Those tend to be a much more relaxed fun vibe.

Thing is, the game is a game with community moderated servers, if there is a community you don't like try another server, which will have other rules, other moderators, etc.
