Going through the fun process of spoofing the app id version strings so it won't accidentally update. Up yours, Todd and Microslop
I would LOVE IT!!!!! So much screeching, moaning and wailing from the kiddies.

:) :cozybethesda:
I went to the trouble of getting it on Gog as well as steam. Funny enough all my mods i installed through the steam version exist on the GoG version as well, just without the frsutrating updates you can't refuse on steam.

Todd thanks you for giving Bethesda money twice.
So what i found in modding server is this PSA message (IS NOT COMMAND RUNNER SCAM just setting file as read only):

Our modern installations are loaded with SKSE plugins and they will likely all break. These are the steps you must take to protect yourself.

In Windows, go to a folder in your steam installation. Mine looks like this. Your path may be different depending on where you installed Steam.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\

You are looking for this file: appmanifest_489830.acf

In Windows, right-click on that file and select Properties.

Check the box to make the file Read-only. This keeps Steam from being able to update the game's manifest. If it can't update the game's manifest, it won't update the game.

CK Users need to do the same to this file: appmanifest_1946180.acf

Bear in mind, Setting your Steam game settings to not update will not keep them from updating the game. Setting Steam to run offline is not safe. Steam will set it back online whenever they want to update Steam, at which point, you are online and your games will also be updated. Locking down the manifest files is the only safe way to maintain your current game version.

So hopefully it wont ♥♥♥♥ up my installs, especially my skyrim.

...

Not quite true. You can set the games to not update unless you run it. Steam going online to update itself will not cause the game to be run. You have to do that yourself after Steam is in the online mode and you did not set it back to offline.

Running the game from the F4SE file after Steam is running and offline works.

I'll shrug.,

I protected my game from updates, like any modder should, and there are plenty of guides on how to do it in the "guides" area.

Sigh. I would probably avoid this forum for a week or two. Too much whining threads after every update.

This. :steamthis:

The game has been updated many times and non of them have ever affected my preserved game version.
Irrelevant for me as I play the GOG version. My game will never update.

how dare people get upset that they can't use the product they bought. How entitled must they be to expect the game they bought to be playable.

They can use the product they bought. Mods from a third-party webside (Nexus) are NOT an official part of that product.
I should be fine.
I'm currently only running 2 mods and both are from Bethnet.
That doesn't mean the game won't get borked, tho.
The forums will not be as quiet as they have been. That, I'm rather certain of.
No concerns at all. I only use Creation mods and a lot of them. No update has ever broke my game.
