Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition FPS (Framerate) drops FIX (2017)
There is a fix to this problem, called "Style Switcher" on Nexus Mods.

Download and Install the fix and open the file called "StyleSwitcher.ini" on the game folder.

Change the value "ForceMode0" from 0 to 1
Like this: ForceMode0=1

Save the file.. Open the game

The fps drop in some areas of the game should be resolved.


- How to install the mod [TUTORIAL for noobs] -

-Extract the "bin" folder from the zip to the game's folder (where the "DMC3SE.exe" is)
-Open the "install.bat" file
-Type 0 (if you use the keyboard to play) or 1 (if you use the controller)
-Now ppen the file called "StyleSwitcher.ini" on the game's folder and change the value "ForceMode0" from 0 to 1 (like this: ForceMode0=1)
-Save the file and open the game.
-If your game came with a file called "DMC3SE.ini" you will have to open the "_Restore" folder" and cope it to the game's folder in order to make your controller (XBOX 360 Wireless) works.
OBS: Read the "documentation.html" for more information

- Making the game run at any resolution, fullscreen and widescreen -

If you want to make the game run at your monitor's native resolution in fullscreen mode, in the same file (StyleSwitcher.ini) change the line "mode" to 1 (Mode=1) and the line "Resolution" to your desired resolution (Eg: Resolution=1920x1080@60).

*If you are running Windows 7, 8.1 or 10 make sure you are NOT running the game in compatibility mode, otherwise you will not be able to play in fullscreen

*Initial screens and some videos will be not running at fullscale but in game everthing will run as expected (high res, widescreen).

if you are teaching someone to do something is not very nice using the word "noob" you know... anyway, this will affect my save?

You can still use your save files with this mod.

However, there is an optional weaponswitcher option included in the mod, which makes it possible to equip more than two weapons at the same time. Saving the game while having this weaponswitcher enabled may make the save file uncompatible with the vanilla version of the game.

Make a save backup if you want to use multiple weapons.

i have to activate this in the text file right? for now, im having a strange error. i put all the files in the folder, install it and play the game. "the procedure * could not be located in the dll sound.dll. wtf

in this step "-Open the "install.bat" file
-Type 0 (if you use the keyboard to play) or 1 (if you use the controller)" i pressed 0 and i just got an error and the bat was gone forever. i use controller companion to play with 360 gamepad using the keyboard layout. i should worry about the error?

The text file is called "styleswitcher.ini". It includes plenty of settings, along with the weaponswitcher.


This error has something to do with the loader type selected during the install.bat procedure.
I don't have any specific details as I haven't tried using the Type 0 yet.
If the game works, then don't worry about it.

If your controller is an official xbox360 wired controller, then it should work even without the controller companion program.

Consider disabling the companion, reinstalling the mod and this time selecting the Type 1, and then following the instructions after the "Xinput Setup" section in the documentation.html
This would probably fix the error you're seeing too.

im starting to think that this is error is probably something related to windows 8.1. i did all you asked me for and no luck.

Its not like I am earning money or something to help, this post is a courtesy to help people not waste the time I wasted to make the game work properly.

Noob its is not a ofensive word, it means :A person who is inexperienced in a particular sphere or activity

I am using Windows 8.1 PRO (Updated April 2017) and did not experienced this problem.. Try running as administrator.

You dont need to use any program to make your controller work. Try creating a txt file (using notepad) with the name "DMC3SE.ini" (.ini is the extension, not the name) in the game folder(where "dmc3se.exe" is), in the file you paste this, then save the file(as .ini not .txt) and open the game.
*U must do this after installing Style Switcher.

nah, i prefer to use my configuration i did on controller companion. i tried to run as admin but no luck. i had this strange dll problem. my windows 8.1 copy has a problem, if i install a update that has 900mb(it must have two years this one) my sound driver stop working and windows update just keep searching forever, so my 8.1 is outdated and i have no idea how to solve this. the problems are api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll and soundriver.dll problem

all tried again, this time on windows 10. i moved all the files to the root folder of the game on steam, press 1 at the end of instalation. clicked on dmc3se.exe = "cand find steam message". ok. tried to open the game on steam. it opened. then i closed. and then steam just started to download the whole game again :evawhat:

I dont think this is a problem related to the Style Switcher mod..
This game is very broken on PC, really ugly port. To make it work perfectly u will have to do some research.
I spent at least 4-5hour before the game runs like it should. One problem after other... :(

"Can't find steam" error message.

Finally its running here: bin files unpacked, installed, ini´s edited and with the correct line for me in the DMC3SE.ini

[XBOX 360 For Windows (Controller)]

I can enjoy Part3 ;D Thx all in the guides, here in the forum and the Style Switcher modder :D

And tecmo: pls bring us the Ninja Gaiden Series on PC :)

Thank you for the "ForceMode" tweak Victor, those fps drops were driving me insane, and now they are gone! I can finally enjoy the game :P

Try setting these values like this:
Bloom=0
DisableBlurShader=1
DisableFogShader=1
DisableShadowEngine=1
If you are still suffering from low framerates then that means that your PC is simly to weak to handle the game
