Mission Statement:
To advance global surgical care through digital innovation, sustainability, and international collaboration, serving as the global liaison for SAGES across membership, education, and partnerships.
1. Advance equitable access to digital, minimally invasive, and endoscopic surgery through capacity building, scalable education, sustainable training programs, and shared resources worldwide.
2. Expand SAGES global engagement by strengthening international membership, partnerships, and society-to-society collaborations.
Target:
International region with educational infrastructure and surgeons who wish to learn and teach the knowledge, skills, and attitudes for safe laparoscopy by fostering the development of sustainable educational programs.
Scope:
Globalization has begun with large healthcare organizations and increasingly become a part of our professional organizations. SAGES’ is increasingly involved with global initiatives in education and training. This is highlighted by the success of the Global Affairs Committee (GAC) and its rapid expansion over the last ten years with great success in Mongolia, Peru, Mexico, and other parts of the world. Global projects can be initiated from a number of sources…individuals (US and other countries), professional societies, countries, ministries of health, hospitals/universities, and industry. In an effort to better appropriate limited resources (money, equipment, SAGES faculty, and staff) the GAC created an organizational structure to vet, assure funding, engage/participate, and follow up with sustainable relationships globally. It is the goal of SAGES to support enduring programs that promote the mission of SAGES and the GAC.
