Yle's latest voter support poll has found that the opposition Social Democrat Party (SDP) remains Finland's most popular party, but its backing among voters has fallen from past peaks.

The Antti Lindtman-led SDP have lost the most support in the new survey, dropping by over a percentage point to 22.6 percent compared to last month and down by over 3 percentage points compared to September 2025.

Meanwhile, PM Petteri Orpo's NCP lost some of its lead to one of its government partners, the Finns Party.

"The SDP is clearly losing most supporters to the Left Alliance, but also small proportions to the Greens and Finns Party," said Tuomo Turja, research chief at Taloustutkimus, which carried out the public broadcaster-commissioned survey.

The latest poll found support for the SDP falling more among men than women.

Left Alliance more popular than ever

The survey's biggest winner was the Left Alliance. Its support improved by nearly one and a half percentage points from last month's poll, standing at 11.7 percent.

In terms of Yle's political surveys, which began in February 1994, it was the highest-ever result for the Left Alliance — a party which that was founded in April 1990.

"The Left Alliance is holding onto its voters really well at the moment. The party is gaining voters particularly from the Social Democrats and Greens. There's also currently more support coming from non-voters than in the previous poll, for example, when the Left Alliance had something of a dip," Turja said.

Support for the NCP remained unchanged at 17 percent, according to the poll.

The upward trend of the Finns Party has also continued, as this time the Riikka Purra-led Finns saw a rise of 0.7 percentage points from last month, with 16.3 percent support.

The gap between the two biggest parties in government (the NCP and Finns Party) shrank to 0.7 percentage points. The flow of voter support from the National Coalition to the Finns Party is now stronger than movement in the opposite direction, according to Turja.

"With the Finns Party, I noticed that the party's support among the working class has risen somewhat and is now actually at the same level as the Social Democrats' blue-collar support," Turja explained.

The fourth most popular party is the opposition Centre Party, which saw a rise in support of nearly a percentage point, bringing it to 13.5 percent support.

Green support drops

The Greens found themselves in the unwanted position of being the survey's second-biggest loser. Some 8.2 percent of survey respondents said they would vote for them.

Support for the smallest parties has barely changed. This survey found the Swedish People's Party's support at 3.6 percent, the Christian Democrats' at 3.4 percent and Movement Now's at 1.9 percent.

The Yle-commissioned poll was carried out by Taloustutkimus. It interviewed just over 2,500 voting age citizens in mainland Finland, with 75.1 percent stating their party preferences. Respondents were asked which party they would vote for if the upcoming parliamentary elections were held right now. The survey was conducted from 10 August to 1 September 2026. The margin of error was a maximum 1.9 percentage points in either direction.
