Overview

The U.S. Embassy in Lusaka provides a range of routine and emergency services for U.S. citizens who are visiting or residing in Zambia, including: U.S. passport application acceptance and renewalnotary servicesConsular Reports of Birth of a U.S. Citizen AbroadConsular Report of Death of a U.S. Citizen Abroad; assistance to victims of crime; repatriation of destitute U.S. citizens, etc.

The Consular Section cannot assist with flight cancellations, hotel reservations, Zambian immigration issues, or certificates of freedom to marry.

Appointments: Routine services, such as passports, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad and notaries are by appointment only. Please review the Consular Report of Birth Abroad instructions prior to booking an appointment to ensure you come to the appointment prepared.

Emergencies: In case of an emergency requiring immediate attention, such as the arrest, injury or death of a U.S. citizen in Zambia, please see our emergency contact information.  We also encourage U.S. citizens in Zambia to enroll in our Smart Traveler Program so that we can reach you in an emergency.

Visitor Parking: There is limited parking available in the guest parking lot in front of the Embassy’s Main Entrance. It’s a short walk from there to the Consular Entrance.

Visitor Security: All visitors will be required to undergo security screening before entering the Consular Section. Please note the following:

  • Electronics are prohibited: Please be advised that due to embassy security regulations, all electronics are prohibited. Please leave your cell phones, laptops, cameras, tablets, or any other device at home or in your vehicle. There are a limited amount of small shelves to place your phones at the security entrance, but they will not be locked up. Laptops cannot and will not be stored at the embassy.
  • Large bags are prohibited: We recommend you leave backpacks, bags, purses, etc. in your vehicle, or for a safer option, at home. There are no storage options at the security entrance for your bags.
