White Out Christmas Eve 2009

Wow! Is all I can say to the first white Christmas in 83 years! Beautiful!! It would have been much nicer had we not headed out around noon on Christmas Eve, it was already snowing lightly, little did we know by 6 PM on our way home from my mom's they would be issuing blizzard warning for the first time ever, and it would take us nearly 2 hours, a drive that normally would take close to 20 minutes! Yes it was beautiful, but also quite scary. We Texans aren't too good on icey roads. I really wasn't up to being stranded with a hungry infant in the car on Christmas Eve!! Cars were everywhere, in ditches, wrecked, roads were closed, and there was lots of slippery ice on the roads. Somehow both kiddos were in the back seat sound asleep for most of the car ride. Finally, we made it home safe and sound! Thank goodness. The kids had a wonderful time at moms playing with their cousins and getting some awesome presents. Oh and Santa stopped by for a visit!! That was super cool!

Dylan and Santa! He was so excited!

Colt did so good! I thought he would totally freak out.

Colt and Santa!

It was way to dark to get a picture of the house but Dylan did go out and put some food out for Santa's reindeer.

D in his beloved Batman shirt!! Check out all the snow behind him!!!

Dobbs Christmas 2009

Christmas day we still had lots of snow!!!!

Chuck the Truck

And Chuck came with a new hat

We were blessed again this year with a wonderful holiday!! Dylan had so much fun, he got so many wonderful presents. Baby Colt made out pretty well himself! Santa was very good to all of us! Dylan is into Batman, and Toy Story this year! He got a buzz light year, and Toy Story 2 movie and lots of Batman things, and he also got a farm, he was so happy, with everything Santa brought this year!

Dylan checking out some of his new matchbox cars

He wasn't sure what he wanted to play with first it was so cute he was just going from one new toy to another!! However, I think he has played with Colt's toys almost as much as he has played with his own, he loves showing his baby brother how everything works!

Colt trying to open his presents!!

Christmas morning my dad, Marcie & Troy braved the bad weather and came over to see the kids and all that Santa had brought! We had lots of fun just hanging out and enjoy some yummy breakfast together!

My dad, Dylan & I

Then we headed over to The Dobbs house for round two!! The kids had so much fun! They were so excited to see Santa had left just as much at Mamaw and Grandad house as he left at our house!! We are truely blessed!!

Riley, Tyler, Dylan & Colt

Next year should be twice as fun, when Colt will be a little older! I am so excited to see what the next year brings for us! I hope all of you had a wonderful Holiday too!!

Merry Christmas from The Dobbs Family!!

Colt is 6 months....it goes too fast....can someone please hit pause, for me!

Baby Colt, as he is known at our house, is now 6 months old. I just started him on cereal. He has been on a formula that already has rice cereal in it, to help minimize his spit ups, so not much of a change for him other than the spoon. I have waited unti now on the cereal because he is sleeping so good at night, and I hated to change anything, not to mention he is obviously thriving with the formula.

Check out those theighs!!!

This check up he came in at 23 lbs, he is above 95 percent in height and weight, again. He is still very sweet and smiles constantly especially when he sees his brother. He started sitting up on his own Christmas Day!
He wants to put everything in his mouth and reaches out for everthing. His favorite past time is just watching Dylan. The other day D was playing with two Batman figures and making them fight and Colt was just sitting in my lap watching him and cracking up the entire time! It was so cute!!
He has been working on some bottom teeth for quite sometime, I am really wishing he will have them by Christmas morning, but we will have to wait and see. I hope they get here soon, they are really disrupting our schedule!! He has officially outgrown his swaddler, so sad for me. That thing was amazing...the best $10 I ever spent!!!! Although, he is still sleeping good, when he is not teething!

Happy 6 month bday sweet baby, Momma loves you!

Dylan's FIRST Christmas Program

Dylan had his first Christmas Program last night. He was super excited and had been practicing his songs all week long. I love that he knows so many Christmas songs. They sang Rudolph, Frosty, and Jingle Bells. They dressed in little brown shirts and reindeer antlers...so cute!!!

Nathan & Dylan & Ms. Krista

Dylan's teacher told me she put him on the front row because he was doing so good during practice singing loud and doing all the hand motions correctly. However when it was go time... he wasn't the only one NOT singing!!!!
He was so surprised when Pops and Troy showed up! It totally made his night!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!!!!

I absolutley love the snow! I am sure it has something to do with the fact that when I was growing up we spent every single vacation in New Mexcio or Colorado snow skiing! I had no idea when I left to take Dylan to school this morning how hard it was snowing because it was still pretty dark out! But as soon as we got going, man there were HUGE snowflakes coming down. Dylan was in aww....he told me "mamma its beautiful" So sweet!!! He is right, it is so refreshing!! I wish it could have stuck around a little longer, but we will take every little bit we can get!

Thanskgiving 2009

I am in the process of cooking our Thanksgiving Dinner, and I want to take time to reflect on the past year and some of the gifts we are most thankful for. I am thankful for my friends, and family, and sooooo thankful for my wonderful husband and two precious boys! We have had so many blessing in our lives this year and I want to thank each and every one of you for being there to share in our joy! First, my Pampaw he left us, and went to heaven to be with my Nanaw early this year. Words can not begin to express how much these two people meant to me, and how much they influenced my life with their unconditional love. I miss them more than you will ever know, but I am so grateful to know they are together and watching over me and my boys! Secondly, my Grandpa was diagnosed with lung cancer and after surgery and God's will is now doing remarkably well, so I am very thankful for God's and his healing hands. Then our family was blessed with a healthy baby boy! Baby Colt has already brought so much joy into our lives, and I know he will continue to do so for many years to come. I am also grateful for a very prosperous year despite the economy we are all living very comfortably. I could go on and on about the gifts we have been given this year. I hope you too, will take time this Thanksgiving to reflect on what is most important in your life and all the wonderful gifts God has blessed you with. We all have so much to be grateful for!

Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!

I asked Dylan what he was thankful for and he told me, "Mommy and Daddy and Baby Colt....and MY GATOR!!! Those are my thankfuls." So sweet!

Much Love, Scott, Alisha, Dylan and Colt

Sweet Colt is 5 months old...

My sweet, cuddly baby Colt is five months today. We spent the afternoon at the doctor, he has his first ear infection, and a nasty cough. I was afraid it was RSV, but the test was negative...thank goodness! He has had little or no fever, if it wasn't for his cough I would have never known about the ear infection! Dylan was the same way, his first ear infection was a double with no symptoms, so we never knew until he was throwing up at midnight. Scott and I being first timers, panicked....and off to the emergency room we went. Funny how much more relaxed you are the second go round. On a side note Colt has gained 2 more pounds this month....he is now weighing in at 21.2 lbs. I thought boot camp was toning my arms, but in reality I think it is Colt helping me out! Colt recognizes his bottle now it is so cute he kicks his legs and gets so excited when he sees it!! He is also rolling around, and wishing he could sit up solo. He loves to sit and be entertained by his big brother. They have such a special bond already, as soon as Colt hears or sees Dylan, his chubby little face just lights up! OH.....I almost forgot.....he is also sleeping through the night...most nights!!! This is huge! Last night he slept 11 hours. I am enjoying this, however I still wake up to check on him every couple of hours! Dylan is also doing awesome sleeping through the night in HIS bed. This was never a problem at the old house, but I was afraid once we moved he would be in our bed....much to my surprise he is sleeping in his bed better than ever!!! I am thankful for both my healthy, happy boys!!

Halloween 2009

Dylan's trick or treating vehicle

Dylan at school with his friends

We had lots of fun this year for Halloween!! Dylan initially wanted to be a super hero, and we have been watching the Incredibles....I can't even begin to tell you how many times. So I bought him a Mr. Incredible outfit, the first one Isaw because I knew they would be gone very quickly! Then about two weeks ago, he changed his mind....I had a feeling this would happen. He now wanted to be a fireman. Which was fine, because we have a fireman's suit already that he got for his birthday! Dylan was a fireman for Halloween and Colt was a skeleton. I am not too big on putting infants in a Halloween costume I feel it is a bit cruel. So I found Colt a very comfortable and cute outfit for Halloween this year! Dylan had a party at his school on Friday, and then Saturday we went trick or treating in our new neighborhood. We had lots of fun and met some very nice neighbors!

MIA

The photo cord to the camera has been MIA...somehow during the move I misplaced the camera cord, but good news it has been located!! So, there is lots of back posting to be done this weekend. We have been very busy lately with the move and keeping up with two kids. But we are fully functional at the new house now, well except for the garage, which I hope will be cleaned out this wekend, the Volvo is missing her spot in garage!

Colt William is 4 months old....

I can't believe it...Colt is already four months old. I took Colt for his 4 month check up on Monday! He is very healthy!! He tipped the scales at 19lbs and 4 oz and he measured 27.5 inches! He is above the 95 percentile in height AND weight! Needless to say he doesn't have a problem eating! The doctor said everything was great, since he is well proportioned. He is still a very happy baby, he laughs and coos at us all the time! He has started this week to try and roll over. It is so fun to watch him!

Chicken Flautas with Avocado Cream Sauce

I made these chicken flautas one evening when I was off work with Colt! They were a huge hit! So, I thought I would share the recipe with everyone! Enjoy!

For the Flautas: Canola oil, for frying.
1 tablespoon butter,
1/2 small red onion, diced
1 jalapeno, diced & deviened
1 garlic clove, minced
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 rotisserie chicken, skin removed and meat finely shredded
1 cup salsa
1 cup shredded Cheddar/Monterey jack blend
1 lime, juiced
Salt
16 flour tortillas
For the Avocado Cream
1 avocado
1/2 cup sour cream
Juice from 1 lime
Salt

Fill a large pot with enough oil to reach 2 inches up the side of the pan, I use my cast iron skillet. Heat oil over medium heat.
To make the flautas: In a pan over medium heat melt butter and saute onions and jalapenos until tender, about 5 minutes. Add garlic, cumin, and cayenne pepper and cook until fragrant, another 2 minutes. Add chicken and salsa; stir to combine. Remove from heat and stir in cheese and lime juice. Let cool slightly.

Spread a heaping spoonful along the middle of each tortilla. Roll tortilla tightly around the filling and secure with a toothpick. Using tongs, hold each flauta in hot oil until firm, then release to continue cooking. Cook until golden brown, about 2 minutes, then remove to a paper towel-lined plate and immediately season with salt. Keep flautas warm in the oven on a sheet tray while assembling and cooking the remaining tortillas.

Avocado Cream: In a serving bowl, mash avocado, sour cream and lime juice until smooth. Season with salt, to taste.
