Honey

Well Brent thought we needed an update, so here goes. Garret continues to surprise me everyday with the words he says. He is getting pretty good at making sense when he tries. We went to the wards Memorial Day breakfast on monday at a local park. Garret was so cute playing on all the toys. He loves to go on slides. There was another little boy playing on the same slides that was quite a bit smaller than Garret. Aparently this other boys name was Garrett as well. His dad asked us how old our Garret was and we said that he was gonna be 2 in a couple weeks. The other boy is turning 2 in July. I was surprised to hear that since the 2 boys went down slides next to each other at the same time and I believe Garret was about a head taller when they got to the bottom. I really thought the other one was about 18 months old or younger since he was a lot smaller than G. Anyway, then I remembered my son is freakishly tall.

Two weeks down...

We are starting to settle in. Garret's finally excepted the fact that he lives in this house. He has on occaision said "I wan gampa" and "Gama Gampa" He's wondering why we don't go play there anymore.

Donna and Garret are learning that Brent has what equates to be more than a full-time job now. School seems to be going well for Brent, he feels like he's understanding everything ok and is trying harder in school than he ever has. Garret is learning new words every day and is growing again. He's now 37 inches tall and is still two weeks away from his birthday.

He cracks us up because he is always impersonating his mom's style of discipline. For example, Donna got up to go into the bedroom from the living room and he didn't want her to walk off so he yelled "Mom, No, One... Two..."

We'll try to get more photos up soon, but we don't do anything very exciting so stay tuned...

G Dawg

Another video of Garret. He has been making quite a mess while eating the last few days, enough that he has to have a bath after the meal, he got 2 baths today.

He also has fun stealing bites of ice cream from mommy, I guess sitting next to me doesn't work good enough for him. Apparently his crib needs some work as well.

Zippers

I don't know why but he thought the zipper was the funniest thing. After this he was mimicking me making the zip sound.

Local wildlife

Ok, so I have never been to Ohio before. I have also not seen a lot of animals in their natural habitat. It is kind of interesting to watch the different kinds of birds, and animals we have around here. Garret hasn't seen a lot of things before either. So we have spent a lot of time watching the birds through the windows. I was very excited the first time I saw a cardinal since I had never seen one before, I wanted to get a picture but as soon as I got the camera out he was gone (that seems to happen every time I see one). I do have to say if you have never seen one in person, the pictures do not do them justice. The male cardinals are very beautiful, the females on the other hand, well I think its like other types of animals where the females aren't as attractive. I have gotten some pictures of the other things, like the squirrels, other birds, and a bumble bee that got stuck in the window(I think we've got a nest in the back of the house). I guess we also get racoons at night that get into the garbages. We haven't had a problem yet but we'll see. Anyway here are the pictures.

The House

This is the house. The yard is very large in the front, but not so much in the back. We don't have a fence in the back either so having Garret play outside is a little tricky. He is very independent and wants to be able to play by himself or walk all over the place. He actually likes to just walk back and forth along the walkway from the car to the house, this is fine until he starts to go to the street. Anyway, otherwise its alright, good enough for 2 years.

Getting it started

Being across the country from just about anyone we know, we figured we better get one of these things started for at least the grandparents sake (assuming they figure out how to view and navigate it)

I figured I would get it started and leave Donna to do most of the editing. Heck, she's doing everything else (why not throw one more thing on the pile?) We are settling into our 90-year-old rental house that looks and is every bit of 90 years old. It even has an old cellar which I was told was used for some kind of shop with an underground tunnel. It sounds like a old moonshine-making prohibition racket to me.

The first two days of school have shown me and Donna that this is a major investment of time. I think Donna was surprised I spent over eight hours of my Saturday at the library studying. Hopefully we get used to it.

Garret loves playing outside (when he can get out there, its rained probably two out of every three days here) and is learning more words everyday. We'll throw some photos of the house up and other things as soon as I can.

Take care...
