Letters, numbers and name

So Garret has known the alphabet and the numbers 0-20 for a while now, but every time I would try to record him saying them he would clam up and not say anything usable. So he finally cooperated (after about 4 tries of each). He still doesn't speak very well, but you can get the gist of it. His counting is getting better. He counts everything. He will also point out letters that he sees when we go places, or on the t.v. or the computer. Also when we were on our way back from Utah we discovered he knew how to spell his name. We would always write it down while he said the letters and then tell him that was his name. I guess it stuck and he always wants us to write his name. He brought his magna doodle to me one day, so I scribbled on it. He said NO and erased what I did. Then he said G-A-R-R-E-T. It is so cute. He just doesn't perform on command with this one yet, but I caught it on camera. So there are 3 videos, but they aren't very long.

The other day I was doing something in my room, when I noticed that Garret had put my shoes on, something that he does on a regular basis. After my shoes were on the right feet, he picked up my purse and tried to put it on his shoulder. It kept falling off, so he put it around his neck like a necklace. I thought it was hilarious, Brent didn't think so. Anyway so he did it again yesterday and I got a picture of it. Him lifting up his foot was just a bonus.

End of Jan.

We have had a rough couple of weeks. We are happy to see February here, and to see the sickness that ran into us last week leave. Garret is one funny kid. He likes to wear anything that doesn't belong to him. The list includes Brent's beanie, gloves, shoes, and my shoes.

He ended up getting sick last Wednesday, which also happened to be the day after we got a bad ice and snow storm. Our car was covered with a layer of ice about 3/4" thick, and then about 8" of snow. Brent had fun trying to get to school to pick up some books, since classes were canceled that day. I felt so bad for Garret. He threw up 4 times withing 5 hours, then he could only take drinks of clear liquids every 5 min till that night. He was so hungry that he ate food he shouldn't have and got sick again that night. So the next day he started out bad, but got better throughout. Everything was going well Friday. We went to the mall to pick something up and ended up getting some dinner there too. Big mistake for Garret. He got sick there, man was that embarrassing. But he's been good ever since, thank goodness. As for the rest of us, Brent has been alright with a slight throat tickle, and my throat has been scratchy. But luckily Brent and I didn't get Garret's bug. Even though Garret got sick, it didn't dampen his spirits. He still ran around and jumped and spun. He acted as if everything was ok. One of the good things that came out of this sickness was he finally did a doodle in the toilet. He is acting a little more interested in the toilet. I think he is more interested in the candy he gets for sitting on the toilet, than actually doing anything in it. Oh and unrolling the toilet paper, and trying to flush while sitting down. Even though he was sick he still knew how to kick back and fall asleep on the couch.
