Close to the end of another long day of driving, we appreciated the beauty of this sunset.

September 27: evening reflection in Boston
We loved our day in Boston. What struck me about the city was the blend of historic and modern, with lots of beautiful garden space as well. (There are more pictures on the flick'r link, not all from the day in Boston yet but more will be there soon!)

September 26: lobster traps
We drove to Rockport today, and along the coast enjoying the little harbors and coves. Lobster capital of the world!

September 25: Sandwich, Cape Cod
Enjoying the moments before sunset, the water, the rocks, the birds, the boats...
September 25: Wayne and Michele
We met up with Dave's cousin and her husband, who are sailing from Lake Superior to Florida. Our schedules worked out so that we could visit with them on their boat, walk out on the boardwalk to the ocean, and enjoy dinner with them!

September 23: bridge
There have been so many cool bridges that we've driven across! This is the Sagamore bridge, that took us to Cape Cod.
September 23: beach
It was fun to get out of the car on the Cape Cod beach and smell the familiar smell of ocean.
September 23: sign
This was taken in the "raw" bar where we had supper: lobster rolls! They were wonderful. We also had crab cakes and clam chowder! True New England food. The sign just struck me as funny-- not everyone will come out and say it so boldly!

September 22: fall sight

September 22: fall sight, originally uploaded by MaryD SN-MN.
I've been loving all the oranges of fall, in the flowers and the different arrangements we've been seeing in the recent days. I miss the four seasons when we are living in a different climate zone!
September 21: welcome

At the end of our drive, a welcome and welcoming sight as we pulled into the driveway of the friends we will be with for the next several days!

Road Trip
September 20: Statue of Liberty
It was amazing to be here, seeing these sights with my own eyes and taking these pictures with my own camera.

more from the car-window
Today was another LOOONG day in the car. But I do love the different barns and farms.

September 18: sight from the car window
We drove MANY hours today. I loved seeing various farms, modern and old, some in wonderful condition and some that were abandoned and rotting away... each of them beautiful in a unique way. My midwest heritage perhaps?
My "road trip" photo set (so far) is here if you'd like to take a look!

September 17: Kiara
This little girl has so much personality and it was so much fun to spend the day with her!

September 16: Navy Pier
We had a wonderful afternoon walking around Chicago! Sadly for me, I had done something strange to the color balance on my camera and most of my pics did not turn out well, but I liked this one in "sepia." My dh took lots of good pics which will eventually get on the Dakar Decker blog but for now I only have a short time so wanted to get this one caught up!
If you'd like to see the other four that turned out cool as well, click here!

Sept. 15: on the road
These decorate one of the rest-stops on the way to Chicago. I loved the color and texture.

September 14: lynx kitten
Jacob and I went to the zoo today to see the new 4 month old lynx kittens. They were really playful and so much fun to watch! Look how big the paws are... that's gonna be a BIG kitty when he/she catches up to those paws!

Sept. 13: Minnehaha Falls

Minnehaha Falls, originally uploaded by MaryD SN-MN.
We visited Minnehaha Falls this evening. We haven't been there for at least three years and had forgotten how beautiful it is!
Sept. 13: Minnehaha Falls rose

Minnehaha Falls: rose, originally uploaded by MaryD SN-MN.
Someone had tossed a rose off the bridge and it stayed near the edge of the falls. Was it a memorial for someone? An expression of love, or a broken heart?

September 12: autumn scent
It seems too soon, but I love the cinnamon, pumpkin-y, spicy smelling candles. It's been cold enough!

September 11: Mrs. TiggyWinkle
Over the weekend I unpacked some boxes where our fall and winter clothes and other things are stored. I found my friend Mrs. TiggyWinkle. For some reason I've always loved her. And today, looking at the picture, I thought, she looks like she could be praying! Today I've been remembering the events of six years ago, and praying for those who lost loved ones in the attacks, that God will comfort them with His love. (Looking more closely, it appears Mrs. T. is savoring a cup of tea... but tea and prayer can go well together!)

September 10: white squirrel
Another "wild animal" capture! I first saw it through the window, and shot a few pictures through the screen, then ran out the front door to get a few more hopefully clear shots. I've seen this little critter around the neighborhood when I've been walking, but never in our yard before.
September 9: backyard bunny
He froze like a statue for the longest time, while the large black cat from next door watched him closely... waiting for him to make his move!

September 8: fall fruit 2
(I know this is normal ordinary stuff for people who live in this country! But I am constantly struck by the beauty of the common things that grow here!)

September 7: sign of fall
When I went out to the back yard, I heard the honking... and quickly tried to capture these geese. Not bad for a first try with quick-flying subjects!

September 6: forbidden fruit
The cable guy came to see why our house had lost its cable and internet, as well as the next door house, and discovered that the guys who had buried the cable for the house on the OTHER side had managed to cut cables to our two houses... and while talking to him down by the cable box I discovered the beautiful raspberries in the neighbors yard!

September 4: back to homeschool

back to homeschool, originally uploaded by MaryD SN-MN.
These are the texts we'll be using for this semester! My son loves the math and science... personally I prefer the world history and literature!
September 3: butterfly garden

butterfly garden, originally uploaded by MaryD SN-MN.
My youngest son and I went to the zoo for a couple of hours this afternoon. I got some fun pictures but my favorite was this from the butterfly garden, which is new since we were here four years ago.

September 2: campus bench
We drove through the U of M campus today to get home because the 35W bridge is no longer open. I enjoyed the random sight of this bench. My son really likes Relient K, and he and his older brother have an argument going about why their music is not more often played on the radio... anyway, though I took lots of other pictures today, this one without a lot of significance turned out to be my favorite! I like the color of the bricks in the background... and the trim around the windows!

September 1: State Fair!
I grew up with barns and the smell of hay, and cows... and wandering through the animal barns is one of my favorite things.
This boar was HUGE. I had pictures from several angles but they ended up almost obscene!
The sheep and lambs were so cute. We saw some being sheared, and then wearing their blankets after their wool was off. (On a 90 degree day, they would still be cold after adjusting to those wooly coats!)
This robot-guy just randomly showed up while we were walking down the street, and talked to the people who gathered around him, and posed for lots of pictures.
There was amazing people watching... in a crowd this size, the variety is wonderful.
And then, there was the food!
Yes, a great day at the Fair!
