I gotta get me one of these!

I borrowed a friend's Canon Camera. It is so nice. I took it to church today to return it to her and I couldn't resist the Temple photo ops. I love having a temple so close!

It's ok to have fire on a cake

I forgot to tell you my favorite part of the whole day. While the fireman was talking about fire saftey, he mentioned something about not playing with lighters and fire. Then Connor said something along the lines of "it is ok to have fire on your birthday cake so you can blow out the candles." It was so cute. I wish I could remember exactly how he said it.

Connor's 4th Birthday Party!

My little man is 4 years old today!

My little man is 4 today!

Yesterday was Connor's birthday party. We had such a great time. He wanted a firetruck birthday which was very cheap and very easy. We decided to have everyone meet at the firehouse. The firemen gave us a little lesson in fire safety. The kids were all so patient and attentive. I was very pleased with all of them. Well, all of them but one. But she was so cute no one seemed to care:
After the lesson in fire safety, one of the firemen came out and got dressed in all of his gear. Then he crawled around on the floor like you should in a fire. Some of the kids thought it was pretty cool and gave him high-5. Some of them were a bit frightened by the sound the oxygen mask made and were not too quick to give him him high-5.
Then they took us on a tour of the station and we got to see where they eat, sleep and wash their clothes.
Then came the kids favorite part. The kids got to climb up on the firetrucks. The firemen were so cute and helped each of them up and then back down on the other side.
Then Tara got to hold the jaws of life.
Here is the group photo with all 26 kids!

At the end of the tour, the firemen gave all the kids firehats, coloring pages, sticker badges and pencils. Here is our little model of our firegirl:
After the firehouse, we went back to our house for some fun. The kids had "fire extinguishers" (Shaving Cream) and played slip and slide on a tarp. We also had our little pool filled up and the swing set. With all of that, we didn't bother with the water balloon game or the maze we had planned.
We had a bit of lunch and then the cake.
I actually liked it better w/o the truck on it. My road looked pretty cool if I do say so myself:

But he liked it and that is all that mattered.
After most people had left, we opened the presents. He was loving opening new toys.

Three of the parents all collaborated and started him with 3 sets of GeoTrax. He is in heaven! GeoTrax is a transportation toy. They have trains, cars, planes and monorails. Connor got the firehouse (how appropriate) , a track set and a remote train. I am afraid we are hooked!
Well, not daddy. You really could get carried away. No this is not my kid. This is from the GeoTrax website.

Iron Man Dad

Wow this video clip is amazing! It makes me think of my sister and brother in law who have 2 special needs children but they really don't let that slow them down. I love you Charise and Bill and I am proud of you for taking on the challenges you have. I love you!

Potty Talk

So this is one of those messages that would be much better comming from Mike as he was the one with Connor when it happened. But I guess we are not quite ready for that yet. So here is the story second hand:
Connor has been really into name calling lately. Not mean viscious name calling but he-thinks-he's-funny name calling. Like "you are a pickle head" type name calling and then laughs histericoly at himself. The other night Mike was brushing Connor's teeth (Thank you Michael for taking on the night time routine everynight. I love you!) and Connor called Mike a "poo poo face" and something about "diarrhea" and then laughed hard. Mike said "Connor we don't talk like that." To which Connor replied " But dad, it is potty talk and we are in the potty!"

Zetta Talking

My sister Charise hasn't seen Zetta since last Christmas. She was shocked when she heard her talk in the background while talking on the phone. She wanted me to video her talking. She is always willing to say cheese for the camera. I also threw in a funny video of her coping her big brother and sister w/ their olives. Enjoy Char!

Messy Day

At the end of the school year for Connor's preschool the teacher hosts a "Messy Day" and boy do the kids get messy. It is great fun for everyone.
Our first stop was the bird eating. They made bowls of mud (pudding), dirt (crushed Oreos), worms (gummy worms), and seeds (M&M's). They had to find the worm and seeds w/o using their hands. I was a little worried about my boy who doesn't like to be dirty. But he definitely didn't let that hold him back today. He did very well. Especially when it came time to play in the shaving cream. You will see what I mean.

Not all the kids had time to finish all of their pudding. So we labeled the bowls and put them around the top of the sand box. Well, Swiper the fox thought we placed them there just for her! She won the award for getting messiest:
Gotta get it all!

From the bird eating, we went to the sunflower butter and marshmallow event. We put a scoop of the sunflower butter (like peanut butter but a bit runnier) in their hands and then they laid their hands in a tray of mini marshmallows and then they ate the marshmallows off their hands. Connor wasn't so sure how he felt about the peanut butter at first. But he decided he was ok with it. But he didn't want anything to do with eating the marshmallows off his hands. So I helped him.

Our next event was the watermelon eating contest. Each child was given a piece of watermelon and a cup. They had to eat the watermelon and spit out the seeds into the cup to see how many seeds they could come up with. Our team really just kind of enjoyed eating the watermelon.

From there, we went to the fishing booth where the kids used chopsticks to get gram cracker fish and grapes out of a bowl of cool whip. Yummy!

Those were the four messy food stations. After we had rotated thru all four stations, they set up the four water stations. The first one was ABC Twister. One of the commands was putting your nose to a letter in your name:

Then we did a water balloon toss. This never gets old w/ my kids:

Then we went to the fish pond and had to fish w/ our toes:

NASTY!!! The water was a bit nasty from people from the next booth coming to rinse off. Apparently it looked yummy to Zetta.

They also had a sprinkler and water slip and slide for the kids to enjoy to rinse off. Tara didn't quite weigh enough to enjoy it to the fullest.

Our last booth was the shaving cream body painting. This was Connor's favorite. I was amazed at how messy he let himself get. He LOVED it! I think we may reenact this for his birthday.
