Genarlow, T.I. and Bill

Ok, so first, the GA Supreme Court overturned the conviction of Genarlow Wilson, the young man who was sentenced to 10 years for receiving oral sex from a 15 yr. old girl while he was 17. For those who have not heard about this, here is a link for some info

Wilson has been released, but this type of injustice has been going on in our country for a long time. However, if Wilson would not have been engaging in teen sex with drunk girls on New Year's Eve, he wouldn't have found himself in this predicament. I'm not blaming him, b/c the justice system is biased against us, and it's been that way since the beginning, and we all know this. So, perhaps it is time that we teach our girl and boys to hold themselves to a higher standard so that they will not fall into the continuous trap of our justice system. Basically, let's be better than they expect us to be. I know Genarlow was just a boy in HS doing what boys are told and convinced through the media (BET and others) that "men" do, but seriously.

Now, T.I.!! All over facebook, there are groups and people exclaiming "Free T.I." Of course, it is Facebook, so I take everything I see there with a grain of salt But, to think that people believe that he did nothing wrong...Are you serious? Why does he need his own artillery? Was he preparing for the War on Terror? Does TI have intelligence of Al-Qaeda in Atlanta? All jokes aside, I know TI came from a rough neighborhood.

Now, I didn't grow up in similar surroundings, so I can't really relate. But, is it really impossible to leave that life, and move on to something better? TI is a talented artist, and I like a few of his songs. With all of that talent and potential, why continue to hold on to those things and those people from the past that represent your past...how you used to be and the things you used to do. Don't get me wrong, I am all for not forgetting from where you've some, and remembering your past. But, that can be done without continuing to hang around negative influences. TI is no longer on the streets. Why does he still want to "reside" there?

Now, I am going to write a separate post on Bill Cosby later, so all I want to say now is that I agree with nearly everything he is saying!!

Where are the protesters in black....

So, it's been a month since the Jena 6 rallies in Jena and across the country, and things have seemed to quiet down. There haven't been any posts about the case on any of the online communities in which I am a member. No one has mentioned the House Judiciary Committee Hearing on the "Jena 6." And even though my sisters and I have continued to be engaged in conversation about the issues and implication of the issues since the beginning, I can't help but notice that people have seemed to forgot about these issues. Of course , we can't expect the media to provide any information on the Hearings...it took them a year to report the issue.

For those of you who watch C-SPAN, I hope you have been watching the Hearing on the Jena 6. For those of us who find C-SPAN informative, but tedious to watch, you can go here to watch it, or download and watch it at your leisure. Also, here are a few clips of the hearing that I personally enjoy, but you should watch the entire clip when you have the time. It is important that we continue to protest and rally about these issues all of the time, and not just when the issue is hot and new, and it is important that people stay informed So, pass these links along to everyone you know.

Peace & Blessings
