These are 2 of my favorite comic strips from The Boondocks. The first is why we should not follow Bob Johnson's advice or lead...ever.
And here is another one...I go back to this one every time one of my relaxed friends says something negative about natural hair....
Right now, I am just waiting for my absentee ballot from SC to arrive, so I can vote for Sen. Obama in the primary. My mom has been working locally on his campaign, and she is so excited. She said that this is the first time in her adult life that a presidential candidate has reached out to small town, rural black people to actually help on a campaign. She was too young to participate in the Civil Rights Movement, and she says that it feels like that time again...black people trying to make a way for themselves. I am happy for her, and all of the black people in my small town/county for having the opportunity to participate in this process. Politicians don't usually seek out rural and small town black voters, which is what makes Sen. Obama different from all of the rest. He recognizes that the United States does not just consist of middle class whites in the "heartland."
As for the Civil Rights Movement...well, I'll speak on that another day....
Once again I find myself having to say this or think this b/c my beloved Ohio State Buckeyes have lost the BCS National Championship to an SEC school, LSU. Last year, Florida made us look ridiculous, and this year, LSU showed us that they are definitely the better team. So, in the spirit of good sportswomanship, I bid adieu to college football and the OSU Buckeyes. O-H...I-O!!
I'm baaacckkk!!! It's been a long time since I've written anything, so I figured what better time than the first week of the new year.
2008 has started of very well for me. I got a new job working as a document reviewer for a big law firm case. It's a temporary position, but it's my first job since graduating law school, and I thank God for the opportunity. However, I want to be in DC...I mean I really want to move to DC working in international law, specifically international human rights advocacy. There are so many things going on in the world right now, especially in many African countries, that rise to the level of human rights abuses. But, b/c of the lack of an economic interest, most countries turn their back on these atrocities, and the American media doesn't give them any airtime. So, that's what I really want to do with my life, and I am still trying to figure out a way to get there.
Anyone, I brought in the new year with a cocktail dancing to "Good Life" and really enjoying myself with friends and family. And I must say, that I feel good about 2008. It started off with a job and really reconnecting with an old friend, whom I want to be a little more than a friend. And I am very happy about that. But, just like most people, there are things I want to do differently in 2008. So, here is my list of goals and aspirations for 2008....
1. I aspire to return back to my strict vegan diet, and began exercising more...at least an hour a day like I used to when I had gotten down to a size 4. I want to get back there, b/c I do not want to buy a whole new wardrobe, at least not at a larger size. And being vegan had other great attributes...my skin was clearer, fewer breakouts. And several benefits during my monthly cycle. And exercising really just made me feel good. However, now with the new job, I have to find a time to do it.
2. Do better about calling and staying in contact with family and friends. I want to send birthday cards, and call more often. Life is so short, and I want the people I care for to know how I feel about them while they are still here on this earth. We shouldn't wait until a person has passed before we give them flowers...
3. I aspire to be even more diligent about getting a job in international human rights and international law. This is what I want, and I believe that I will get it. By December 2008, I will have a job in human rights, and living in DC.
4. Save enough money for a nice townhouse or condo, and buy a car. I really need a car, but buying a home is more of an investment, so I want to do that first. But, first I have to get to DC.
5. Continuing loving and growing dreadlocks. I will take care of my natural hair; wash, condition as often as I want, and re-twist when I feel like it...which isn't often. Maybe, I'll by a few tams and wraps, and do some experimenting with those.
This list will change throughout the year, and I will update it accordingly.
