But remember brothers and sisters....

....you can still stand tall. Just be thankful for what you got. Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac, diamond in the back, sunroof top, digging the scene with a gansta lean.

I can't remember when I first heard this William Devaughn classic. I know I was really young, and thought it was a cool song about a cool car, b/c honestly, Caddies are cool cars. No, seriously, they are. However, now that I am much older, this song says so much more to me. It's about being happy with yourself and the things you have...though you may not drive a great big Caddie. Honestly, who wouldn't want a caddy with gangster white walls, and a t.v. antenna in the back? I think this is especially true for me this Christmas. For the first time, receiving gifts was not important to me. I took so much pride in giving to my mom and baba (Swahili for father), that I really didn't care about receiving any gifts. And I am so thankful for what I did receive. It has taken me years to get to this point of being thankful for what I have, instead of focusing on what I do not have.

In our society, people define themselves through material possessions. Self-worth is derived from the type of car you drive, the neighborhood you live in, the college you attended, designers you wear, etc. etc. You can still tall without all of those things. Y ou can still be a great father to your children, a loving and patient wife to your husband, a leader in your community. Those material things should not define us as a people. With so many people jobless, it is necessary we stress what is really important in our lives....God or your higher power, family, and friends, and making sure our spirits are happy and content. We must be thankful for what . Willie said it best.

I am thankful for a loving family, patient friends, agreeable co-workers, and respectful neighbors.

Idle almosttimetopunchtheclock Thoughts

Today is turning out to be the longest work day of my life...all because my Christmas vacation begins as soon as the clock hits 4pm. And I am out of the office until Jamuary 5th, and later that evening, I will watch my beloved Bukeyes play in the Fiesta Bowl. I'm tempted to have a little get together with a few other alums and friends to watch the game. But that also means I have to provide food and libations. And I have to do extra cleaning at end of the night. Naw, I'm not hosting a FiestaBowl party. I'll just go to a sports bar to watch it with friends and fellow alums.

I am so tired. My eyes are red from staring into thie computer all day. Which is not cool, since I want to hit up a happy hour after work. I'll just go home first, and add a few redness reliever eyedrops.

So, for the holiday, I will be in South Carolina, at least until the 29th. Then I am back here to get ready for New Year's Eve party on the 31st. I'm pretty excited about it. I had fun last year, and it helps that everyone there is not booed up with a SO (I seriously need to get back into the dating game...like seriously; another post for another time). This year, my younger sister is going, which will be the first time we partied together since she turned 21. She attended my law school grad party, so NYE should be interesting...and a lot of fun.

I'm leaving here at 3:50. I have about 10 more minutes...Hallelujah!!!

A Call to Action....

Dear ColorOfChange.org member,

A new report in The Nation1 documents what many have claimed for years -- for some Black New Orleanians the threat of being killed by White vigilantes in Katrina's aftermath became a bigger threat than the storm itself.

After the storm, White vigilantes roamed Algiers Point shooting and, according to their own accounts, killing Black men at will-- with no threat of a police response. For the last three years, the shootings and the police force's role in them have been an open secret to many New Orleanians. To date, no one has been charged with a crime and law enforcement officials have refused to investigate.

The facts are finally seeing the light of day. Now we must demand action. Given Louisiana's horrible record when it comes to criminal justice and Black folks, it's the only path to justice.

You can help. Join us in calling on Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, Louisiana's Attorney General Buddy Caldwell, and the U.S. Department of Justice to conduct a full investigation of these crimes and any police cover-up. It takes only a moment to add your voice and to invite your friends and family to do the same:

http://www.colorofchange.org/nation/

In the two weeks after Hurricane Katrina made landfall, the media created a climate of fear with trumped-up stories of Black lawlessness. Meanwhile, an armed group of White vigilantes took over the Algiers Point neighborhood in New Orleans and mercilessly hunted down Black people. "It was great!" said one vigilante. "It was like pheasant season in South Dakota. If it moved, you shot it."

The Nation's article tells the story of Donnell Herrington, Marcel Alexander, and Chris Collins -- a group of friends who were attacked by shotgun-wielding White men as they entered Algiers Point on September 1, 2005. As they tried to escape, Herrington recalls, their attackers shouted, "Get him! Get that nigger!" He managed to get away. Alexander and Collins were told that they would be allowed to live on the condition that they told other Black folks not to come to Algiers Point. Herrington, shot in the neck, barely survived.

And there's the story of Henry Glover, who didn't survive after being shot by an unknown assailant. 2 Glover's brother flagged down a stranger for help, and the two men brought Glover to a police station. But instead of receiving aid, they were beaten by officers while Henry Glover bled to death in the back seat of the stranger's car. A police officer drove off in the car soon afterward. Both Glover's body and the car were found burnt to cinders a week later. It took DNA analysis to identify the body.

Then there's the story of White militiamen who tried to drive their Black neighbors from their homes. Reggie Bell, who lived just two blocks down the street from the vigilantes' ringleader, was told at gunpoint, "We don't want you around here. You loot, we shoot." Later, another group of armed White men confronted him at his home, asking, "Whatcha still doing around here? We don't want you around here. You gotta go."

These are only a few of the stories of Black folks who were accosted in Algiers Point, and you can read more in The Nation. But unless you speak out, we may never learn the full extent of the violence. Journalists have encountered a wall of silence on the part of the authorities. The coroner had to be sued to turn over autopsy records. When he finally complied, the records were incomplete, with files on several suspicious deaths suddenly empty. The New Orleans police and the District Attorney repeatedly refused to talk to journalists about Algiers Point. And according to journalist A.C. Thompson, "the city has in nearly every case refused to investigate or prosecute people for assaults and murders committed in the wake of the storm."

The Nation's article is important, but it's just a start. For more than three years now, these racist criminals have by their own admission gotten away with murder, while officials in New Orleans have systematically evaded any kind of accountability. We have to demand it.

Please join us in calling on state and federal officials to investigate these brutal attacks and the conduct of Orleans Parish law enforcement agencies, and please ask your friends and family to do the same. http://www.colorofchange.org/nation/

Thanks and Peace,

The United States of AmeriKKKa...

Katrina's Hidden Race War

Perhaps Rev. Wright isn't so crazy after all? Not nearly as racist or bigoted (as so says the foolish, the ignorant, the bigoted) as they say he is, perhaps? Perhaps, he was telling the truth...a truth so many prefer to ignore and deny. I'm not surprised this did not/has not received MSM attention. The lives of our men, women, and children are not as valued as others...MSM rarely, if ever, reports on crimes where we are the victims. The only reason J-Hud's family received so much attention is b/c it's J-Hud's family. I sometimes listen to Chicago talk radio, and I know crime is rampant in the city, particularly in our communities.

I remember clearly during Katrina, how N.O. citizens were referred to as refugees. REFUGEE - Any person who is outside any country of such person's nationality or, in the case of a person having no nationality, is outside any country in which such person last habitually resided, and who is unable or unwilling to return to, and is unable or unwilling to avail himself or herself of the protection of, that country because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. Victims of Katrina are/were not refugees. Also during that time, the MSM really showed their racial bias by using certian code words (looters, criminals) when defining the black Katrina victims.

So, it's been 3 years since Katrina. And now we have our first black President. The next 4-8 years will be interesting....

Are you effing serious?

Drew Peterson Is Engaged To Be Married... Again

Can somebody, anybody explain to me why any woman in her right mind would want to marry a man who's been married 4 times...twice divorced, third wife died a mysterious death, and fourth wife missing? Oh, and the third wife's death is being investigated as a homicide. And this current fiance, who remains nameless, is 23 years old, 31 years Peterson's junior. If I ever accept a marriage proposal from a person of interest in his 3rd wife's death and his 4th wife's disappearance, I hope my family has the guts to kill me....before he does.

Thinking of a master plan....

If you didn't know...I love old school hip-hop. I wonder what came first...hip-hop or rap? I feel like I remember a time where the music was rap and the artist rappers, instead of hip-hop and hip-hop artists. Do you remember "Yo! MTV Raps? How about the old Rap City? I dunno...just curious. But I digress....

I am definitely thinking of a master plan. I have a renewed interest in politics, policy, and legislation. International law/relations/human rights/trade and development is still my core interest. However, I am not looking into entering into the field on the legislative/policy side, instead of the legal side. I am so very blessed and thankful for my current job. However, I know this is not where I want to be this time next year. I have several co-workers who've been working at this job for several years, and have absolutely no interest in moving on or moving up. They are so content with the hours and the the laid back atmosphere that they have no problem with working a dead-end job with little to no advancement. Personally, I say it's bullshit. We have an office full of lawyers and paralegals, many who would rather work for pennies just so they can wear jeans to work and have little to no responsibility. It is frustrating, and that mentality is draining. I am used to aiming for the best in all that I do, and being around people who are not motivated to do any better than what they are doing is starting to wear on me. I am ready to move on. It's been almost 6 months, and I know it is time to go.

So, I am thinking of a master plan...a plan that gets me to where I want to be in the next 5 years.

Universal Mind Control....

I am listening to it right now at my desk. I will write a complete review of it after I am finished. But, I must say I absolutely love Common. No...I LOVE COMMON!!! So, I am trying to listen with an unbiased ear, but from the first 3 tracks, I am loving it!!

***Written 12.09.08 @ 1:45pm
Like I said above, I love Common. And I really like this album. It is very different from Finding Forever and Be, but I really like it. Several danceable tracks, and some head nodders. If you are a Common fan and a fan of music, you should check it out.

Know Your Status!!

world aids day

I know mine...do you know yours?

Why we need a recession....

Over at WAOD is a compelling piece regarding Black Friday, overconsumption, consumerism, and Recession. Check it out here.

Barack is not black....

....or so says Marie Arana in Sunday's Washington Post. And so, we have a Latina telling the world Obama really isn't black, not that there's anything wrong with that. Really? Obama isn't black? He was black during the Rev. Wright (non)issue, and he was definitely black when McCain was asking "who is Barack Obama", painting him as the scary black, Arab, Muslim, socialist boogy man. And the McCain supporters yelling "kill him" and "terrorist" think he is black, as well as the people all over this country who have spray painted racist epithets on the walls inside and outside of college buildings, adults and children who have spewed racism after his historic election. And the newly energized KKK see Obama as black. If Obama was ever unfairly stopped by police as a young man, it is because he was racially profiled as a black man, not multi-racially profiled as the son of a white Kansas woman and a Kenyan father, and subsequently raised by his white grandparents. He was black when he admitted to doing drugs in his book. He was black when Bob Johnson alluded to his drug use during the primaries. He was black when Bill Clinton sought to diminish Obama's primary win in SC by comparing it to Jackson. All during the primary and the general election, Barack Hussein Obama was a black man as noted by the terms inexperienced, elitist, and "that one", while the other side spoke of how they represented the "working class", the "heartland", and middle America...all code words for white America. Trust me, the media and Obama's opponents knew exactly what words to use for their desired audience.

What angers me the most is the idea that a black man or a black person could not be this great, this accomplished...could not become the President of the United States of America. A black man could never do that, could never do those things, so it must be b/c Obama is half white. That's it!! It's his white side that attended Harvard, and his white side who was editor of law review, and it is definitely his white side who won the Presidency. Because without his white half, he would never would have been able to achieve any of this. Because there is nothing great, nothing extraordinary about black people, especially black men. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!! It hasn't been a month since the election, and they are already trying to re-write our present history as to their benefit. They have been doing this for centuries. Just look at Thanksgiving...re-written as some great, wonderful time between Pilgrims and Native Americans, while completely ignoring the genocide of Native people's in this country. and let's not forget Columbus Day, celebrating the man who found land that was already inhabited. But hey, at least they give us a month, the shortest month of the year, to celebrate black history, while systematically ignoring this history themselves.

You know this is just the beginning of the idiocy that is America. We best be prepared to battle for the next 4-8 years.

I am having a great week...maybe the best week ever?

Tuesday, November 25th--My office had a Thanksgiving potluck lunch. I an my fellow vegetarians had plenty to eat. Collards, sweet potato souffle, mac&cheese, green beans, butternut squash, etc. There was so much food. At least 2 turkeys and a smoked ham. And the meat eaters all said the meats were really good. And, I must admit, this is the first time I've had really good food prepared by 2520s. My co-worker who planned the event, an older black man, prepared all of the meats, collards, and I think he made dressing(stuffing to my northern homies). It was a good day. No complaints, but a co-worker is really starting to bug me. I'll post about that later. My sister who live in G'boro arrived today, and the fun began.

Wednesday--I worked 5 hours, and then went on my lunch date. At the Obama rally in October, I met a nice young man, and we finally were able to get together for lunch. He is a nice guy, and we have great conversation. So, we'll see what happens. Right now, I'm just enjoying it for what it is. My parents got in today around 6:30.

Thursday--I picked up my younger sis at the airport. The girls were all together for Thanksgiving, and we had a great time. My family and I ate Thanksgiving dinner with the Triangle Vegetarian Society. They hosted a vegetarian/vegan Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant in Durham. And it was really good. It was worth every cent of my $20. And to be able to spend Thanksgiving day out of the kitchen, and just enjoying my family's company; everyone just relaxing and taking it easy...Priceless!!! I didn't make my famous vegan pumpkin cheesecake this year, but my sister made pecan pies and my mother made sweet potato bread and a pound cake. I purchased a pumpkin cheesecake, and added a pecan glaze on top. So, the pecan glaze was homemade, but this year, the cheesecake was made by Sara Lee.

Friday (Black Friday?)--My younger sis needed a new laptop, and she went out to Best Buy at 4am to stand in line to get this Toshiba laptop. She didn't get the one she wanted, but she did get a Toshiba for much cheaper than the original price. Personally, I'm a Mac. And my Macbook still works well, so I didn't need to be out at the stores extra early. But even if I did need a laptop, I would not have been up at 3 or 4 am to get into a store. That completely goes against everything I believe in. However, I did need a new camera b/c I dropped my other digi, and ruined it. So, at around 9am, I pulled into Best Buy, walked straight to the camera section, picked up the $99 Fuji w/ the free memory card, and proceeded to check out. No muss, no fuss. Later, the girls and I headed to the mall, where I purchased to sweaters from the Gap. I wanted to do a little more, but I really hate shopping in a mass sale-crazy consumers. And frankly, the last thing we need in this country is to continue to perpetuate the idea of excess and commercialism. We are going through hard economic times. Instead of retailers lowering prices the day after Thanksgiving, why not lower them, period?

We also had more traditional dinner Friday night. I made vegan dressing and Green Bean Casserole. I don't use canned cream of mushroom, I make my own using soymilk. And my green bean casserole is the best my family has ever had, and I am totally biased. The dressing was good, too. I really am a good cook. I would post a pic, but it would be mostly a picture of a pan. lol

Today, Saturday, November 29th--Just chillin...watching State(Go Wolfpack!!), and doing a little cleaning. My G'boro sister left about an hour ago, but the parentals and the youngsis is still here. I really don't feel like going anywhere today. At all!! But, I have a feeling the parentals will want to go to a few stores. And of course, I will have to be there tour guide. Oh well, that's what family's for....

I have several things I want to write about regarding Thanksgiving, and the holiday season in general. From the history of Thanksgiving to the commercialism and overconsumption perpetuated. A lot on my mind as of late, so these posts will come eventually. In the mean time, I will continue to post about whatever happens to tickle my fancy on any given day. Good times ahead!!

I am thankful....

I subscribe to a daily devotional, and here is what I received today in my inbox.

Thank You Power
Rachel Olsen
"Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will
for you in Christ Jesus."1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)

In my (part-time) job as a university teacher, I'm frequently reading
research. I know, I know ... it sounds as dry as an over-cooked turkey.
Sometimes it is but often I find interesting stuff in that scientific prose. For
example, this week I read about a study from the University of California
that showed just how great it is to be grateful.

The researchers found that grateful people report higher levels of
positive emotions, more
satisfaction with life, and more vitality and optimism.
All good qualities I want more of in my life. They also found grateful people
show lower levels of depression and stress - two things I'd like to experience
less in my life.

What's more, they found that people who keep journals about
gratitude on a weekly basis are healthier. They exercise more regularly,
report fewer physical symptoms, and feel better in general than people who
journal about neutral or negative life events. That sounds great, and I'll
take all the help I can get in the exercise department.

Finally, the research showed that people who daily count their
blessings report higher levels of alertness, enthusiasm, determination, and
energy. Wow, the benefits of being grateful are remarkable and many! I guess
that shouldn't surprise me after considering today's key verse. The Bible urges
us to give thanks ... all the time ... in every situation ... because this
practice is the will of God.

Let me be clear, there are terrible things that happen
to us that may not be the will of God, but us praising God and giving thanks
in spite of them certainly is the will of God. As Christians, we can always
find reason to give thanks -- thanks for the salvation of Christ, the
nearness of God, and the counsel of His Spirit for starters. The psalmist
declared, "I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and
will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High" (Psalm 7:17, NIV). We
can do that too.

Christian poet John Milton once wrote about every grey cloud having a
silver lining. Purposing to give thanks, no matter the weather, will train us to
look for it. Continuing in this manner day after day ensures that gratefulness
will become our normal mode of operation.

No wonder those researchers found that people regularly counting their blessings grow happier, healthier, and more optimistic. After all, that research wasn't discovering anything new, but rather confirming the will and wisdom of God. God already knows how great it is for us to be grateful. Now "science" does too.

What can you give thanks for today?

Dear Lord, thank You for this day. Thank You for Your Son and Your
Spirit, given to me. Thank You for the provision of shelter and food I have
today. And Lord, thank You for this reminder to become more mindful of my
blessings. In Jesus' Name, Amen

I think it is a great idea to keep a daily running list of things for which you are grateful. So, I am starting my list of 10 reasons why I'm grateful today. I will do approximately 10 a day.
I am thankful....

1....for having a job in this time of economic uncertainty
2....for having my sister as a roommate in order to lesson the costs of living
3....for a being of sound mind
4....for forgiveness
5....for supportive, loving parents and siblings
6....for the opportunity to be a better person
7....for friendship
8....for a car that doesn't run well, but gets me to where I need to go
9....for emotional maturity
10....sunny days

New Music Monday

Thanks to my Facebook buddy, I found some great new music. Actually, it's not new, I'm just late. The Foreign Exchange makes great music, and you can check them our here. I've finally found something to replace my rotation of N.E.R.D. In a a sea of bad hip-hop (so bad you can't really call it hip-hop), silly R&B (Good Good? or anything by T-Pain), or songs that are purely commercial and lack depth, it's good to know that there is still good music out there. You just have to really search for it. I think I am getting myself satellite radio for Christmas.

And I really like Solange's Sol-Angel & The Hadley St. Dreams.

Obama-Rama!!

I have Obama mania!! I just can't stop thinking about or talking about this historic Presidential election. I think it is very important that we remain logical about this...President-elect Obama isn't going to be able to change things overnight. In fact, he may not be able to turn it around in the first 100 days. But I do believe he, along with a cooperative Congress, will be able to move this country in a new and better direction. His election as President is proof that people are beginning to move forward instead of staying stuck in the past. However, let's not be naive; racism is alive and well, and everyday I hear stories of overt and covert racism directed toward Pres-elect Obama and black people in general. Yet, I believe those people are a dying breed. The country is moving forward, and they will be left behind. Personally, I say good riddance, b/c the overly conservative, "Christian" racists have been holding this country behind for years. And they can either get with the program, or move to Canada or something, b/c a change has come.

Oh, just in case you didn't know, Pres-elect Obama and First Lady visited the white house today. Michelle looked great in her red dress. And of course, the Pres looked as cool as ever!! I will have video of that soon.

Black Love....

We do not see many examples of loving black married couples, or black families in general. We rarely see beautiful, successful black men in love with and married to beautiful, successful black women. The media does not show these images. We do not see black women portrayed in a positive manner. You have no idea how much I love this couple and I love this woman. Finally, a positive image of black family in America. A positive image for black girls and young black women. A positive image for boys and young black men.

Really, they represent a positive image to this country, an image racists and bigots have spent years avoiding. Because to confront these images, this reality, those people have to confront their own lies, their insane beliefs about people of color, but specifically African-Americans. The same lies they have been perpetuating since slavery. Racism has not ended, and it won't end because there will always be those ignorant people who will continue believing in the lies of their ancestors.

However, the same tricks won't work anymore. Our children, those who may not have real life examples, now can look at the family in the wite house, and see the possibilities where there may have not been any possibilities. And not even the bigots and racists can take this moment in history and distort, even though we all know they will try. Not even BET can ruin this for us, even though I am sure they will try.

Forgive me if I am rambling. It's been a long day, and I am tired. This is just how my thoughts came out and I chose to write them as they came rather than edit it into a Pulitzer masterpiece.
Peace & Blessings Family.

A little humor to get you through the day....

I got this from "L", a poster over at VSB.com. Personally, I think we can go ahead and call North Carolina a Blue State!!!

Dear Red States:

If you manage to steal this election, too, we’ve
decided we’re leaving. Weintend to form our own country, and we’re taking the
other Blue States withus. In case you aren’t aware, that includes California ,
Hawaii , Oregon ,Washington , Minnesota , Wisconsin , Michigan , Illinois and
all theNortheast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation,
andespecially to the people of the new country of New California.

To sum
up briefly: You get Texas , Oklahoma and all the slavestates. We get stem cell
research and the best beaches.

We get the Statue of Liberty. You get
Dollywood. We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.We get Harvard. You get
Ole’ Miss.We get 85% of America ’s venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get
Alabama .We get two-thirds of the tax revenue; you get to make the red states
paytheir fair share.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22% lower than
the Christian Coalition’s, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch
ofsingle moms.

Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice
and anti-war, andwe’re going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If
you needpeople to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they’re
apparentlywilling to send to their deaths for no purpose, and they don’t care if
youdon’t show pictures of their children’s caskets coming home. We do wish
yousuccess in Iraq , and hope that the WMDs turn up, but we’re not willing
tospend our resources in Bush’s Quagmire.

With the Blue States in hand,
we will have firm control of 80% of thecountry’s fresh water, more than 90% of
the pineapple and lettuce, 92% ofthe nation’s fresh fruit, 95% of America’s
quality wines, 90% of allcheese, 90% of the high tech industry, 95% of the corn
and soybeans (thanksIowa!), most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living
redwoods, sequoias andcondors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus
Stanford, Cal Tech andMIT.

With the Red States, on the other hand, you
will have to cope with 88% ofall obese Americans (and their projected health
care costs), 92% of allU.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the
hurricanes, 99%of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists,

O-BAMA!!! O-BAMA!!!

PRAISE GOD!! Tonight has been amazing. An amazing and beautiful night. Tonight, we elected the first black man to the office of President of the United States....President Barack Obama!!! My grandparents are not here to see this wonderful moment...this wonderful time in history. They would not have imagined that a black man could ever become President of the United States. Could not imagine it.

Tonight, my sister and I went downtown to party with the NCDP. When we got there, as we were walking toward the entrance of the hotel, a man who worked at the hotel burst out of a side door of the hotel, yelling "He won!! He did it!!" My sis and I rushed into the hotel, and there was happy pandemonium. Everyone yelling,, people crying, in near disbelief that this man, this black man, had been elected to the highest office in the land. It was beautiful. People of all races and nationalities rocking out in downtown Raleigh Marriot. Chants of "Yes We Can" filled the hotel lobby. It was amazing. But for me, the crowd at the Marriot was not the highlight of the evening.

1105080001.jpg

My sis and I decided to leave the Marriot after McCain's concessation speech so we could watch Obama at home, and be able to hear him since the crowd was rowdy. As we were walking back to our car, we could hear yelling and cheering coming from the direction of Shaw University campus. Shaw University is one of 2 HBCUs in Raleigh. So, we decide to drive in the direction of Shaw, and as we turn down the street, students had taken to the streets. The were walking and cheering, and I along with other drivers blew our horns and yelled out of the windows as the students continued to walk down the street. Then, about a 2 blocks down, the students spilled into the intersection, blocking traffic, cheering and yelling, and chanting "O-BAMA, O-BAMA" and "YES WE CAN" It was a beautiful sight to see. Hundreds of black students in the streets celebrating history. And drivers, my sis and I included, put our cars in park, and joined the young people. People continued to blow their car horns and yell from their cars. I took several pictures, and you can check them out here.

It was such a beautiful and historic night, and these young black students from Shaw University felt it, and it showed in their actions. So often, young black people, especially young black men, are depicted in a negative light. And last night, in the streets of downtown Raleigh, the students of Shaw University, along with people of all races and ethnicities who got out of their cars, came out of bars & restaurants, and came out of their apartments, celebrated happily and peacefully. It was wonderful!!!

Another historic event happened here in the state of NC. North Carolina elected it's first woman for governor, Governor elect Bev Perdue.

History is beautiful!!!!

8 years later....

The past eight years has been a biyatch!!

But I digress....

Today was a very special day for me. First, I left work early this morning so I could attend the Obama rally downtown Raleigh. It was amazing!! Seeing Sen. Obama live was so awesome...awe inspiring. Everything about him and his ideas makes you want to be better and do better. And he actually believes all Americans can be great and can make this country better. And the crowd of over 25,000 was so energetic. And everyone so friendly...there was such a sense of togetherness and common purpose. And the crowd was extremely diverse...all ages, all races and ethnicity's, and I am sure several religions and beliefs were also represented. This is the big difference between the 2 parties generally, and in this election specifically. Democrats see "America" as inclusive; we are all Americans. Republicans see it as exclusive; only certain people belonging to a certain religion and of a certain race and/or ethnicity are real Americans. This idea was best seen during the conventions. A camera span of the floor of the Dem's convention showed a rainbow of people; men and women from all races and ethnicity's. Contrast that to the Rep's convention; a floor shot showed mostly white, and probably either Christian or Jewish Americans. So, on Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, I early voted for inclusion, diversity, acceptance, respect and....

It Takes a Village....

Body from SUV is Jennifer Hudson's Nephew

From the moment I heard the SUV was found, and the body of a young black boy was inside, I knew it was the son and nephew of Julia and Jennifer Hudson. My condolences go out to the Hudson family for this painful loss.

What bothers me about these senseless killings is that the person of interest, this estranged husband, has a criminal history of violent crimes. One of my fave bloggers,
[fung'ke] [blak] [chik], pointed out that it doesn't make sense to have this type of man around your child or anyone else in your family. Even if he didn't have anything to do with this particular crime (which seems unlikely to me), he was in jail for attempted murder...which means he tried to kill somebody. This time, he may have succeeded.

Funky brings up another point...ghetto mentality. Here we have a young woman who chose to marry a man with a violent criminal record, exposing herself, her son, and the rest of her family to possible violence, either from him or because of him thru his past associates. What do you think? Is this a case of class? Can class explain this tragic decision that ended in tragic results? My heart goes out to this family, and I hope it goes out as warning to young girls and women all over to be more selective about the type of men we introduce into the lives of our families. Black women have to start making better decisions. Even if that means being alone, raising a 7 yr. old by yourself without a husband or boyfriend. Being alone is so much better than being dead.

I am sure there is more to this story. I will refresh this post as more facts are released.

"B" is for....

We now know Ashley Todd is the Susan Smith of the 2008 Presidential Campaign. Not only did Todd accuse a black man of assaulting her because she was a McCain supporter, she went further to suggest this mystery man sexually assaulted her as well. The historical implications of such an allegation are substantial. White woman accuses known or unknown black man of a crime against her virtue as a white woman. Enters the lynch mob.

By accusing a black man, not just an Obama supporter, of these crimes, she sought to evoke the underlying, but still ever prevalent racism and prejudices of many white Americans. And she did this on purpose. She knew exactly what image she wanted to create in the minds of white Americans...angry, violent, sexually deviant black male...seeking to strike fear in the hearts of white America. And now this silly bitch wants to claim she has mental health problems. She knew exactly what she was doing and why she was doing it. Her only "problem" is that she is a white woman who understands the privilege her race and her gender afford her in this country.

I have so much more to say about this and the race baiting by using code words in the Presidential and the Primary elections. More to come later in the week.

Good news...Sen. Obama will be in Raleigh Wednesday morning. I think I may have to take a few hours from work to see him.

Weekend Update and other idle thoughts....

I was planning to use this post to give a J-Hud update regarding her family tragedy, and the silly bitch in Pittsburgh who scratched a backwards "B" on to her own face, but I think both of these should be left to their own posts. So....

I had a really good weekend. My college homecoming was this past weekend (SpelHouse!!!), and I did not venture to ATL this weekend. And I didn't miss it at all. I didn't even think about it until one of my undergrad friends mentioned it yesterday. Now, I love my undergraduate institution and think it is the best place to nurture the growth and maturity of young black women. But htis year, I was not that pressed about homecoming. Anyway, I ventured into Chapel Hill Saturday night to attend a UNC BLSA party with 2 fellow Buckeyes and friends. That was the first time I had ever partied in Chapel Hill, and after getting turned around twice due to how dark it is on 54 ( you can't see a thing, and driving with the high beams on is a must), I really enjoyed myself. Especially since I only paid $3 to get in, and had free drinks all night. Good times.

The Buckeyes lost to Penn St. I didn't even see the end of the game b/c I was in route to Chapel Hill.

The Panthers won again. Go Carolina!!!

I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I really want a new job. This is not what I had planned upon graduating from law school. Hopefully, after I take and pass the NC bar exam in February, new opportunities will begin to arise. At least they better!!!

I tried to upload a new template, and lost my favorites links. I am very disappointed. So, now I am in the process of going over all of the blogs I read regularly, and adding them. Hopefully, I can get this done by the end of the week. But that's being generous. If you no longer see your blog linked, just know that I am probably getting around to it. Love Peace & Soul

News from the water cooler....

There is a mole amongst us. That's right. A co-worker moved into my section/room at work, and it appears that he is a rat...a snitch if you will. A guy who apparently received negative employee evaluation his first year at the office, and has been a snitch ever since....trying t get back in the good graces of the Head. All of this was brought to my attention today, after I was told that said snitch reported in a meeting that all we (my co-workers in my space) do is stay on the internet all day. Seriously? This coming from a man who spends most of his morning playing online. And, I can speak for me and my co-worker who sits near me, that we do our job, and are efficient in doing it. I do not appreciate him going back telling people I am not doing my job!! I was thoroughly pissed when co-worker told me this, but I am not surprised. He really didn't have a reason to move into our space, and it definitely seems he was sent there as a mole. So, I have absolutely no interest in getting to know this guy, or even being friendly to him. No more good morning's for you Mister. You are officially on my tihs list!!!

Monday Idle Thoughts....

I am so excited, I only have one more hour left at work. Which is a good thing, b/c I have so much to do today. I'm going to hit the gym when I get home. I definitely need to get back to more tones and sexy self. Well, I'm still sexy, lol, but I want more muscle definition. So I am going to hit the eliptical for about 15-20 minutes, then about 45min of weights and resistance work. After that, I want to start looking over all of these bar exam study materials. It's a lot of material, most of which I have studied in law school, but their are a few subjects I didn't study like Family Law and Secure Transactions. So, those will be the first things I look over.

I really really love my hair. I dyed my locs this past Friday. I was so tired of the reddish brown thing. I really just wanted my own dark brown "nearly black" hair color back. My new color is Brown Sable a la Dark & Lovely. It looks more black than brown, but I love it. The color looks really rich, and is a great contrast to my brown skin. And I decided to forego a re-twist because my locks look great without one. I think I'm going to stretch this until election day.

I had such a great weekend. Not only did I have a good lock weekend. By the way, did I mention I love my locks? Ok, just wanted to make sure. lol. Anyway, Saturday I saw the Secret Life of Bees, which bought me to tears. It's funny, b/c I am not a crier, unless I am watching a movie, film, or something sad or happy on tv. It's funny actually, and a little weird that I am more emotional when it comes to the lives of fictitious characters than I am when it comes to my own life. I wonder what that says about me. Maybe nothing.... anyway, I liked "Bees", even though it is a period piece. The '60's. However, I wish we could have more dramatic movies, romances, and romantic comedies featuringblack women.

Saturday night, I went to a party with my girl and had so much fun. It was an old school party for the alumni of Shaw U, and the DJ played nothing but 80's & 90's r&b and hip-hop. It was great. I danced so much, I re-aggravated my bad knee. lol. Finally a party with a good crowd without it being so jammed that you had to climb over people to get to the bar. And there was plenty of eye candy. The men were dressed to impress. lol. I love it!! Good times.... My folks came up Saturday evening, and my other sis drove down from Gboro to go to the state fair. We went Sunday, and I ate more fried food in taht one 3 hour time block than I have eaten in months. It was a lot of fun. I don't ride any of those rides. I don't trust any ride that can be packed up and moved. I mean, how sturdy can it be if it can be folded and put in a truck?

Go Carolina Panthers!!!!

My favorite work song is Michael's "Living off the Wall." "So tonight, I'm gonna leave that 9 to 5 up on the shelf, and just enjoy myself." I love it!!

Happy Hump Day!!

Tomorrow begins the first day of early voting in North Carolina. Not only can you vote early, but if you are not registered, you can register and vote at the same time!! How great is that!!! So, please vote early and avoid any election day trickery.

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Why are you not registered to vote?

Personally, I don't think there is any reason why any adult person is not registered to vote. Hell, in some states, felons can vote, and many of them want to register to vote. So, why aren't you registered? Has your life been better in the past 8 years? How much do you spend at the pump on a weekly basis? How about the grocery store? How much are you making on the job? Do you even have a job? How's your savings? Do you even have any savings left? You should be registered to vote. And you should vote. You don't have a real reason not to vote. So vote, dangit. In North Carolina, you have until Friday, Oct. 10th to register. Be better. DO BETTER.

The VP Debate....

I watched the debate last night in it's entirety, which is something I didn't do for the first Presidential debate. I did however, watch the debate via youtube the next day.

Anyway, is it me, or did Palin suck? Seriously, we are talking about the next VP of the USofA, and she was obviously out of her league. She completely refused to answer questions, which even brought a laugh to the lips of Joe. She ducked and dodged every question...it was really ridiculous...ludicrous even. I really have nothing else to say about it...

Stagnant....

I have a lot of work to do, and a lot of decisions to make. The only thing I do know is that I do not want to be in the Triangle this time next year. That's not true...I know exactly what I want to do and where I want to do it. Now is the time for me to make things happen. Next year I will be officially in my late 20's, and I want to be where I wanna be, doing what I wanna do. With that being said....I HAVE WORK TO DO....

The start of a new week....

Ok, it's a gorgeous Monday afternoon in RTP, North Carolina. I'm minding my own business, trying to get to a gas station. I pass the station, and I have to turn into the McDonald's to turn around. As I am driving around the store, a car decides to speed out of his parking spot. I lay on the horn to stop him before I hit him. He stops of course, and pulls back into his park so I can get by. As I am driving off, he is cursing out of his window at me, like I was in the wrong. Simple ninja!! I was in the drive way he was coming out of a park. I have the right of way. He began backing into the street without even looking. And some how, I was wrong. And I bet his ignorant ass didn't have insurance, so if he had hit me or I had hit him, I would have been S.O.L. either way. Ridiculous!! Who doesn't look before they back out of a parking space? Who does that? I tell you who...Simple Ninjas!! LMAO! I think I am going to start a weekly post about about my observations of ignorant mofos in the Triangle and across the globe. I'll start Friday.

Edit: Things are now looking a litle better. I definitely need to work on my faith, and not feel like the world has come to an end over some little ish. Things have always worked out for the best for me, even when it seemed like my world was falling apart. I do know, however, that I need to grow in my faith, and work to rebuild what I have lost in the last year. Pray for me.

I am tired. Why am I going thru this? When will things finally come together for me? Completely? Oh well, it's still early in the day. Let's see how things turn out by 5pm.

Brothas with Dreads!!

This post is a celebration of the beauty of the black man, the beauty of dreads, and the beauty, sexiness, and overally swagger of brothas wearing dreads.

A few of the many reasons why I love black men, period. But the brothas with the dreads are extra special....

Fingerwaves in 2008....

**Disclaimer...this post is 100% superficial and shallow. However it is how I feel, and if I see you in the streets of the Triangle rocking this style, with friends rocking this style, or with your lady friend, SO, family member be it male or female rocking this style like it's 1993, I will make a mental note of it and write about it later.**

Maybe it's just me. But I firmly believe black women should no longer rock the fingerwave, fingerwave bun, or any variation of any kind of frozen wave in 2008. The fingerwave should not be your everyday style. Now, if you are attending a black tie event, and are channelling the roaring 20's, then you get a pass. However, the extra crunchy fingerwave look is not cute, and it really doesn't do the women wearing them any justice. A crunchy fingerwave makes a beautiful lady look like some common, 'bama hoodchick. I have found occurring mostly in the South, specifically NC and SC, since those are the 2 places with the most culprits. It really is unfortunate.

The start of another week....

Today was the start of my third week at work, and I am feeling good. It is a blessing to have a job in these times of economic unrest.

While at work today, I came across this story about Disney's first black/African-American princess. I wonder what made Disney think it would be a good idea to have the first black princess be a white woman's chamber maid. Where is the imagination? And what is up with this white, and now Middle Eastern prince charming? Why are they avoiding having this black princess/heroine ride off in the sunset with a black knight in shining armor? Has Disney execs never read Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters? I think it would be wonderful if Disney chose to adapt this great story into a cartoon. It would be much more interesting than the current premise, and would actually give children and adults the opportunity to see black women and men in a very different setting from that shown in mainstream American media.

I also read a piece written by Sen Clinton about new regulations regarding women's rights and contraception. Basically, the DHHS, and the Bush admin. want so declare some forms of contraception as abortion, thus allowing for some doctors to refuse to prescribe them. I haven't done any more research on this yet, but I will definitely update this entry as soon as I have a little more info.

Weird Feelings of Unsatisfaction

....Since I last blogged, and a few things have happened since then. First, I returned to the latchhook/interlocking method for my lock maintenance and I am so happy. I always new I preferred this, but I wanted to give twisting a try, and now I know latching is the best for me and my lifestyle. Second, as referenced in a previous post, I do have a new job. However, I still feel a little uneasy about things for some reason. I find myself still looking for jobs, and checking job alerts in my email on a daily basis. I think, actually I know that this is partly because my current job is not what I want to do within the legal field. I still want to work on human rights issues within the framework of international trade and development. And I beleive, until I am on my way to working with those issues, I will always feel like I am searching. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy this job, and my co-workers are really cool. And the atmosphere is very laid back, with plenty of leeway to establish your own schedule...any time between 6am and 7pm. And the benefits are very nice. So the job is not the problem. It's the fact that I know for a fact that this is not what I envisioned for myself after graduating from law school. Sometimes, I have to remind myself that this job is such a blessing, and came right when I needed it the most. Praise God I have a job that I enjoy, pays well, and has great benefits!!!!

The Death of one of the last great racists....

Jesse Helms left this earth on July 4th, 2008. I really don't have anything to say about ole' Jesse...other than good riddance. Sorry if that sounds harsh...it is what it is. I think what bothers me the most is how, here in Raleigh, people are characterizing him as some great Christian man. I don't think so. Perhaps, those people need to read up on the scriptures, specifically the scriptures about loving your neighbor, and doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Here is a pretty good Op-Ed piece about some of his past "accomplishments."

And Roland Martin has hit the nail on the head....

Praise God...I have a new job!!!

Yessir...that's right, I have a new job. And it's been a long time coming. I will be working for Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge & Rice here in Raleigh doing document review. I am still looking for jobs in DC, b/c that's where I want to be, But I am sooo grateful and thankful that I got this job with Womble. The pay is nice, and the benefits are good. I start Tuesday morning at 9am. I am very excited about the prospects of this new opportunity.

I think I am going back to latching....

About once a month, I go thru this longing to return to latching. I do really enjoy the appearance of a fresh twist, but I really prefer latching as it is more convenient for my lifestyle. I am highly active, and I wash my hair at least 2x a week. Well, of course, after all of the work I put into my retwist, after the first week it is gone. And during the summer, my hair grows out very quickly, but I stretch out the time b4 a new re-twist to 4-5 weeks. And trust me, it is a stretch, to the point I have to do a lot of separation in the shower the day of. I have been wary of return to the interlocking/latching method b/c I do not want my locks to be too thin, and I do not want to thin out the base. However, I latched for the first 6 months, and my locks looked great. They were not too thin, and they did fill out a lot. Part of the problem is that I have listened to others who are not fans of the method say how it makes locks thin and bumpy and non-cylindrical. And to be completely honest, bumpy, non-cylindrical locks don't bother me at all; I have seen some really beautiful locks that have been maintained from start to finish by latching. I mean absolutely beautiful.

Another thing is I really do not like using anything on my hair for maintenance other than my already damp hair. Of course, I absolutely love caster oil, and I love using it for twisting, but I prefer not to use anything at all. At least not for maintenance. I think I will wait and re-twist in another month, then I will see how I feel about it in mid-August.

Pele Robbed!!

This summer, I have been watching the UEFA Euro 2008 (Espana!!!), and I am trying to learn more about soccer. I am nowhere near being an expert, but I do know of the great Pele. And this article really upset me. Definitely makes me second guess making a vacation trip to Brazil. A very unfortunate situation.

Wash your hair!!

It's really weird to me that there are ladies who go 2-3 weeks or a month with washing their hair. Why would you do that? It does not make sense. Your scalp is a part of your skin on your body. It is important to wash our bodies to get rid of the dead skin cells and dirt that has accumulated throughout the day. No one would ever consider going 3 weeks without washing their body, so why would you go that long without washing your scalp? Can you imagine someone going 3 weeks without washing her face, so why would you do that to your scalp? And just because your hair does not smell does not mean it is not dirty. Of course it is dirty. The skin on our scalp sheds, and builds up just like the skin on our body. So, you have dead skin cells on your scalp, with oils, and gels, and pomades, and spritzes, and any other junk piled on top of the dead skin cells, and you think your hair isn't dirty. To quote Bill Cosby "COME ON PEOPLE!!!!" This is basic...high school stuff. Every head is not different when it comes to dirt and debris/odors from everyday living attached to our locks and scalp, along with residue from spritzes, oils, pomades, and all of the other things many put on their hair and scalp. It really is ridiculous. And, I'm just a year in, and I understand this. Hell, before I started locking, I washed my hair once a week, and sometimes more in the summer when I would sweat more during workouts.

It's interesting how so many people get offended by the truth. Whether it concerns washing dreads, or starting dreads with relaxed hair. Truth is truth. And it doesn't change just because you choose not to believe in it.

New job, new lifestyle, healthier/more fit body....

Today, I had a job interview today with Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, and I think it went very well. I expect to hear something next week. I had an interview with a firm in DC earlier this month, and I was still waiting to hear, but I'm going to call tomorrow to inquire as to the status of things. And, there are a few openings for international relations analyst and international trade specialist on USAjobs for which I have applied, so I am feeling pretty good about my employment/economic outlook for the second half of 2008.

In other news, I have decided to do some research into a raw foods diet. Ideally, I would like to start this new lifestyle change July 1st. I want to do at least a month to just see how my body responds to the changes in diet. So, I put a few books on hold at the good ol' public library just because I am not ready to purchase a book yet. Especially since I am just starting and may not keep it up. It really just depends on my research, and if I believe this lifestyle will be beneficial.

In addition, I have returned to my original workout schedule of at least an hour of cardio a day, weight training 3-4 times a week. And I have re-introduced my booty to squats, kickbacks, and that "dog" exercise of being on hands/knees, and raising leg to the side. Also, when I'm in the gym, I do leg presses and hip abduction. Yeah, well, today was my second day of doing those, and my backside is sore. Seriously. Even after a good long stretch, my muscles are so tight that sitting in this hard chair, and getting up and walking is slightly difficult. However, I know it will all be worth it. Granted, I think my booty is in pretty good shape, but I could always be improved. Also, I want to re-introduce protein shakes to my diet to help with all of the weight training and exercise. I was drinking the Atkins shakes because they have a good serving of protein, and not many carbs. However, I don't know how that would fit in with the raw foods. I would probably have to make my own shakes. I'll do some research on raw recipes, and see what I can find.

The Champions!!!!

After a 22 year drought, the Boston Celtics are the 2008 NBA Finals Champions!!!

paul and ray_thumb.jpg

And I have to say, I called the Celtics at the beginning of the Finals. An the truth is, the Boston Celtics was just a much better team than the Lakers. The defense on Kobe was outstanding, and the other players on the Lakers team could not step up. And Ray Allen played his ass off!! He went 7 for 9 behind the arc. And what's crazy is the Lakers would leave him open. Ray is a 3-point shooter, what were the Lakers thinking? They weren't thinking. The Lakers did not play good defense, and the offense was not strong enough to counter the stifling Celtics D. This has been a great finals, and I hate to see the season end. But now, we can get ready for the NFL and college football.

It's been a year

I celebrated one year dread anniversary on June 7th. I decided to so something a little special to commemorate the special occasion, and I dyed my locks using Dark & Lovely Permanent Hair Color in Rich Auburn. My hair is a nice brown with a "soft red hue." I really love the color, and as soon as I can take some decent pics with the Macbook webcam (b/c my digi cam is broken), I will post a few pics here and in my fotki.

The weekend of the 7th was a busy week. I moved into a new apartment in a new and better neighborhood here in Raleigh, and my anniversary kinda passed me by. I didn't color and retwist until Monday and Tuesday of the following week. Either way, it has been a great year. My hair has grown a lot over the year, and I am expecting even better results as my dreads get stronger and thicker. All in all, June has started off as a great month. I had a job interview for a position in DC, I have an interview at a firm here in Raleigh, and the summer has definitely gotten off to a good start. Now, if we can cool down the temperatures a bit.

Let's Get Down to Business...

Sen. Obama is the Democratic nominee for President. Last Tuesday, he received enough delegate votes to surpass the number needed to clinch the nominee. And of course, the day after his historic victory, Bob Johnson comes out of his mouth with some foolishness. He actually wrote a letter to Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) wanting Clyburn to urge Sen. Obama to select Sen. Clinton as his running mate. Listen to his interview with Roland Martin.

And the Republican attack machine has already started...first, a FoxNews analyst refers to the Obama's pound as a "terrorist fist jab", and then refers to Michelle Obama as a "baby mama." Now, we really shouldn't be surprised by this foolishness, because FOXNews does these sneaky dirty tricks all of the time. And of course, Fox didn't fire or at least suspend the people responsible. Instead, E.D. HIll lost her show, but is still employed by Fox, and in regards to the "baby mama", Fox states that the "producer used poor judgment." You think? And Hill apologized, but her comment was just stupid and out of place. Where did she get the idea of a terrorist fist jab. Who has heard of such foolishness? Now of course, all they are trying to do is plant a seed in the minds of ignorant Americans, like those from WV and KY in previous posts. And sadly, I'm sure it will take root for a lot of people. Especially since there are people who believe deep in their hearts that Obama is Muslim. And even the idea of being Muslim is a bad thing shows the deep seeded bigoted nature of many Americans. It's really ridiculous and sad, and I fear that this is only the beginning of the foolishness.

The Last Week of May

It is the last week of May, and I can't believe how time is flying.

A year ago, I was a 25yr old law school graduate, ready for big things. What a difference a year makes!! I'm still ready for big things, but I have more clarity as to my goals and how to achieve them. I am now 26, and summer is in full swing. I think it's going to be an interesting summer, and I have several things I want to accomplish...

1. Apply and be accepted to grad school. I'm applying to John Hopkins and American U. I have every intention of going back to school to study and specialize in international human rights and international development. I have to do what is best for me. I've spent a year trying to find happiness in work that does not interest me at all. So, I am going back to school to get what I need in order for me to do what I want.
2. Move to DC
3. Improve my Spanish, and begin taking French.
4. Learn to knit
5. Improve my swimming. Now that I don't really have to worry about my hair, I'll sign up for an advanced class.
6. Enjoy life!! I've been really hard on myself this past year, stressed and depressed. But, I am not going to allow things beyond my control to get me down. It's going to be a great summer!!!

Enough about me...what in the heck is going on with the UN Aid workers? These are people who are sent to help and provide aid to those who desperately need it. People are sexually abusing children; forcing children to have sex with them in return for food? This is horrible, and it has not gotten enough press. Honestly, I don't care about McClellan, all he is doing is telling the truth about a corrupt administration that led us into a costly war, wasting lives and money. We all know this...we've known this for sometime. There should be more outrage about this. However, it seems to have become common place among Americans to not care about anything that does not directly effects them. So what if young Haitian girls are paid $2.80 to give BJ's to Aid workers. It's so sad, but this type of thing has probably happened before. And it will happen again.

And why are people being burned in Kenya for practicing witchcraft? Witchcraft? What were they thinking? Who let the minutes of the meeting get out? This is a really crazy, and sad story. Very unfortunate.

This just in...the Lakers have beaten the Spurs. Perhaps, we will see a Lakers/Celtics final. It would be good for the sports reporters. And it should be good for basketball. I'm sorry to see the Spurs go, I really am. Goodbye San Antonia...you are a great basketball team. Your future is bright, it will be alright. lol.

I am constantly amazed by the level of racism that continues to be displayed in the media by the media during the course of this election. Or, maybe I am more amazed by people's apprehension of calling racism out on it's face. I went for a long walk this afternoon after Memorial Day dinner, so I have not seen any nightly news and I do not know if anyone has spoken out against FOXnews. However, we see that they are showing their true colors (or lack thereof). First, feeding the "terrorist connection" propaganda by referring to him as "Osama" and then "joking" that his assassination wouldn't be a bad thing after all. The GOP, conservatives, and the so-called "Christian" Right are going to fight hard and dirty against Obama. And now we know they are going to try to beat him by using race. It is going to be a tough road ahead.

I am even more amazed at the constant discussions and complaints by the HRC camp on the amount of sexism being displayed, while OB has not called out all of the racism being displayed in this race. As a woman, I am disappointed in HRC, that she has chosen to use feminism as a tool for her playing the victim. I am not moved...she has gained more votes/delegates than any other woman Presidential candidate, and more than many men, and instead of highlighting these achievements, recognizing herself as the trailblazer she is, she diminishes her achievements every time she plays the sexism card. Every time she plays victim, she discounts all of her strengths. It is very disappointing that she is doing this...it would be better for women and girls all over the country to see her go out on top a winner in shattering one glass ceiling on the way to shattering another, than to play victim all the way to the convention. She is not helping the case for women as we work our way to the top of our professions...not at all.

IT'S OFFICIAL....

....THE SPURS ARE STILL IN IT!!!! http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=280525024
I don't know why people were counting them out. And really, who actually thinks the Pistons are coming out of the East. Now, I would love to see an LA/Boston final for historical purposes, but I am pulling for the Spurs. Only if Kobe wasn't such a douche bag....

Her time is up!!!

I am a firm supporter of women all over the world breaking the glass ceiling in every forum where we have yet to have representation, especially black women. With that being said, I really believe it is time for HRC to step down. She is starting to sound a little out of it. In the above clip, she really sounds like she is reaching for anything to justify not dropping out. She mad a poor historical reference to the assassination of Bobby Kennedy, and failed to link it to her argument of why she should not drop out of the race. What does his assassination have to do with her staying in or dropping out? Surely, she isn't suggesting Sen. Obama may get assassinated, so she should stay in the race b/c he won't be around much longer? Surely, that's not what she is saying. I've heard her "apology" and her explanation. However, both of her reasons, her husband, and Bobby, are historically inaccurate. Former Pres. Clinton virtually had the nomination all tied up by June '92 (He was not losing!!!), and Bobby Kennedy did not enter the Presidential race until March of '68, and there was not a nearly 6 month long tiring, drawn out fight b/t the 2 candidates. So if anything, she chose 2 poor choices of why she should stay in the race. And suggested Obama may be assassinated, or at best, another Rev. Wright, or a white drag-queen hooker with ties to Al-Quaeda may rear his/her ugly head.

I'm not sure who has been trying to puch her out since Iowa. The problem she is having is an ego and an arrogance problem. HRC and her campaign and her supporters thought they were going to come in and just wipe the floor with Edwards, and the unknown Obama would just fade in the wind. Not only is Obama still here, but he is beating her...he HAS beaten her. It is over, but she would rather grasp at straws instead of admitting defeat, admitting her arrogance, and dropping out of the race so we can get about our business of securing the White House for the Democratic Party.

There's something in the water....

First things first...the Lakers finally beat the Spurs in the playoffs. They came from 20 down to win the game by 4 points, 89-85. I'm not going to get to deep into this b/c I am pulling for the Spurs. Not that I am a big fan of SA, I just don't like the Lakers. But I love basketball, and I love it when the game is played well. So, I'm not hating on the Lakers, b/c they have looked very good during the playoffs, and have played some really good b-ball. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series. On another note, the Pistons beat the Celtics tonight in Boston, 103-97. I didn't see this game b/c I was watching my Thursday nite line-up of Ugly Betty, and a 2 hour Greys, with a little So You Think You Can Dance thrown in the mix. I am not a big fan of reality t.v. Basically, I do not watch any reality t.v. except for the occasional Top Model episode, but I do enjoy SYTYCD.

So, now to the meat (or tofu in my case) and potatoes. One of my favorite blogs posted this today. A photoshopped picture of Michelle Obama being "strung up" and branded with a brand saying "Uppity Liberal". Now, I get the creator of this pic was suggesting that the GOP, specifically the GOP of the South, was trying to "brand" Michelle, and thus "brand" Obama....basically, that the GOP is using racial politics to garner support for McCain, which is very true. However, the problem is the picture, the symbols, the choice of using a pic of violeece against a black woman to get across his point. His point can be made with out such a disturbing picture. This isn't the first time lynching has been used in reference to Michelle Obama. I received an email a while ago about Bill O'Reily's statement "I don't want to go on a lynching party against Michelle Obama unless there's evidence
hard facts, that say this is how the woman really feels. If that's how she really feels -- that America is a bad country or a flawed nation, whatever -- then that's legit. We'll track it down." Who says things like this? At first thought, it's obvious that some far right "conservative" would say something like that. But this picture? The picture was created by a supposed progressive liberal...someone who is supposed to be on out side? Perhaps it is time for us to be on our own side.

On another note, here are a few examples from WV and KY of those white working-class Hillary supporters without whom the Dems cannot win in November....

These people are more representative of those old Southern Democrats, the one's who fought against Civil Rights legislation, fought for continued segregation of the races, without things being equal. Sounds like those same old racist Southern white democrats. If this is the base of the party, we should be the ones defecting from the Democratic Party. I'm all for a third party candidate that truly represents the interests of my community, and people of color throughout this country.

Another news story from today, Clinton wants 100% of the Michigan delegates to be rewarded to her b/c Obama was not on the ballot. Here is the link. She is really stretching now.
