WiiFit Friday update # 5

It's time for another WiiFit Friday update. But there really isn't much of a story to tell. I did 15 minutes one day this week. (are you proud of me.. I didn't say 'only'! LOL) I rocked that 15 minutes! There.. how's that???

But anyway.. life has just been a struggle lately, with unexpected interruptions and problems that don't amount to much, but can eat up a whole day.

I have been trying to watch my snacks. I've been eating more Wheat Thins and hummus. I like that and unlike Cheetos I'm not going to be overeating it.

So there ya go. Not much of an update. I almost didn't post this week. But I think if I skip doing this, it will fall by the wayside and I won't do it at all. I do want to do it. And I'm hoping to get back in the groove! : )

Click here to check on others' progress.

that's not what I meant

The last couple of days we've had unseasonably warm weather.

Which I love!

I'm not a fan of the cold.... at all.

But when I clean house... or cook dinner... I get hot. So what do I say?

I'm hot!

And my husband gives me a hey baby look...
every single time I say it.

Of course the glance I give him is something to the tune of that's not what I meant.
Followed by the ever popular *eye roll*... a move perfected by my daughter.

I'm just a lame copy catter!

vet trip

Today I needed to take Annabelle for her vet check up. Easier said than done sometimes. I like to make her appointments earlier in the day so I can get it over with. So her appointment was at 8:50 this morning. Check.

The other thing I have to do is put her in the bathroom before I get her carrier out of the closet. Otherwise she freaks out and hides under the bed. Check.

So I got ready to get her out of the bathroom and I could hear tiny little pathetic meows as I opened the door. Usually that means she's in the bathtub. So I glanced over in that direction and she wasn't there. But she was still meowing. So I turned and looked and she was cowering in the corner behind the toilet. It was pathetic and cute at the same time. So I turned and walked away and opened the bathroom door just a little bit so she would come out from behind the potty..because face it.. do I really want to go crawling around back there? Um.. no.

So she came out from hiding and I gathered her up in my arms but she already knew something was up. She continued to meow pathetically. I opened her carrier and she went on in. Whew!

She cried all the way to the vet.

We waited a little bit in the waiting room and then her name was called and we went to the exam room. The first thing the tech asks is if we can weigh her in the carrier.. since the carrier's weight is on a label on the carrier. Just subtract and they've got her weight and they never have to touch her. Part of their little plan, I'm sure. So we get that out of the way. And then we waited on the vet. I unscrewed the carrier bolts and took it apart so she could be checked without having to be dragged out of the carrier. She could sit there and feel somewhat protected. Sometimes that idea works. Sometimes it doesn't.

The vet came in and gave her a sideways look and said hi Annabelle. The vet glances over at me and smiles. So far so good. The vet put her hand out and the cat hissed. "Her teeth look good." We both laugh. Then she went on ahead and gave her the booster she was due. She asked me if I'd noticed anything or if she was having any problems. No. She asked me if she really needed to palpate her stomach. Of course, we both laughed. But she did it and the cat didn't get very upset. Before long we were done and ready to go home.

I contrast this with times we've had to get extra vet techs to hold her just so she could be touched and there is hissing and fur flying and evvvverybody is stressed out by the time the vet is done. This vet is the only person at the clinic that will touch her, bless her heart. But compared to that scenario, things went swimmingly today!

She never made a peep on the way home. I let her out of her carrier and she's been a happy camper the rest of the day.

the old people were right

I remember when I was a kid listening to 'old' people, which of course to my little kid brain, was anybody as old as my parents were then. Ha ha. But I remember them talking about different things like cars or appliances or anything else and they would always say Well, they don't make 'em like they used to. I remember thinking that was a strange thing to say. After all... we had all sorts of new technology like 8 track players and a TI calculator that probably cost 25 dollars. We were livin' large, lemme tell ya.

I never understood their sayings. Until now.

I guess I'm old enough and have had to replace enough things that I've begun to see that they really don't make things like they used to. We've replaced our dishwasher and our new one doesn't work as well as the old one. Drives me batty. I wanted to buy a new toaster oven when we redid our kitchen because my old one looks pretty sad... even though it works like a champ. I searched high and low for one that was even similar to the one I have now...with it's easy to use dials that actually make sense. No deal. So I'm still using my old toaster oven in my new kitchen. Our refrigerator died about a year ago. I shopped and compared and fiiiiiiinally settled on one. It doesn't cool the food as well as the old one and if you dispense crushed ice, it freezes up in the door and I about have to break the ice maker on the inside to get it unjammed. We don't use the crushed ice feature anymore, which is sad, because it's one of the things my daughter was looking forward to with the new frig. Crushed ice. No deal.

And this brings me to today. We've rented a water cooler unit... the kind that you put a 5 gallon bottle of water on.. for almost ten years. The thing was amazing. The water was ice cold coming out and didn't taste like a single thing...but ice water. (we also bought reverse osmosis filtered water from the same place) No funky flavors whatsoever! A major miracle in my book. Anyway... it stopped cooling. I had to get a new unit. So I bought one this time from the place we buy water. Well.... the thing doesn't cool very well at all. I checked the temperature and the water hovers right at 50. My old machine put out water in the high 30's...just like ice water. But without the nasty flavors.

So! I called the manufacturer and he thinks my unit is defective. Grrrr. So I'm going to return the water cooler and then I don't know what I want to do next. I don't really want another one like this. Ya know...track record and all that stuff.

I think an alternate title for this post could have been Listen to Me and seek My kingdom first... and all these things will be added to you. -God. I guess that's sort of a long title though, huh?! Well it's true. In the midst of trying to 'figure out' what to do about this water mess... I've gotten busy and used the brain God gave me for a way He didn't intend. To try and figure it out myself. I "love" it when He uses my own words to bring me to see I'm not seeking Him the way He wants me to. Not really.. I don't love it. Well, my flesh nature doesn't anyway. But I am so thankful. I know that what God wants to live out in me is bigger than a water cooler. And I got so bogged down in trying to fulfill my own wants and desires that I wasn't listening to Him and letting Him do what He wanted to do.

All of this to say.. I have a water machine sitting here that I'm still not sure what needs to happen to yet. I'm putting water in a pitcher into the frig (which I hate doing because it takes up space.. the other thing about my old frig is that it's functionally smaller than my last one even though 'technically' it's the same size)... and I'm thankful. Thankful for the weird water cooler. Thankful for being frustrated and being at my wits end. Thankful that I don't know what to do.

Because He does. And He wants me to listen... so that's what I'm doing.

get out of the boat

I recently came across a book called If You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat (yeah.. that's a looong title lol) by John Ortberg. I will start this little post by saying that sometimes the 'gimmick' of a book will drive me so nuts that I can't see past it. Hoping this isn't one of those times.

But having said that... here's the premise of the book.. (and I'm not very far into this and I may see things differently later on... but I'm not there yet!) Anyway.. this is a twist on the story of when Peter walked on the water towards Jesus. Remember he lost his focus on Jesus and fell into the water and Jesus reached down and lifted him up. What a beautiful story. But the focus of the book (seeeeems to be) on the other ones in the boat because they never tried. And this makes Peter better just because he tried when none of the others volunteered.

And I can see how one could see that in the story.. and especially see it in light of something like writing a book etc that has a 'certain' message (remember sometimes I can't get past these things.. so forgive me.. this is what blogging is all about, isn't it?! Yes, there are reasons why I don't read many 'popular' Christian books LOL)

But....I struggled with this whole thing. I struggled when this was first presented to me and will probably continue to struggle with it.. unless God reveals something else to me during the course of going through this book.

The reason I struggled with this is because it misses the whole point of the story. (and I hate to call things in the Bible 'stories' since they're far more than that... anyhoo...) To me, the main point of the story is not about the other disciples in the boat. It is a personal interaction between Peter and Jesus. A very intimate one. Peter is always seen as the bold and impulsive. And I think people can relate to that and so they like to see him that way.

But it saddens me when we look at people in the Bible and want to compare ourselves to them or wish we had what they had (face to face relationship with Jesus in this case). Especially when they are comparing themselves to someone of whom the Holy Spirit had not yet come to dwell. To me that is a very important key.

To me this whole 'story' is a picture of what Jesus wants to be to us now. He doesn't want us stepping out on our own, for one thing. But then when life swirls all around us, He wants us to keep our focus on Him. To abide in Him. To keep intently focused on Him at all times. Because when we don't, we fall. We might not fall into the sea... but we can feel as though we are drowning, none the less.

To me this story is a beautiful, living picture of what the Holy Spirit is for us today. I know if people began to see that, they would understand more of who He is and what He wants to do for us and live in us in the first place. It's not just a story that happened a long time ago. He wants it be a living reality for you and for me.

Yes, I *heart* me some Cynthia Clawson! I remember going to several of her concerts as a young adult. She is amazing!

yes to my little project

Sometimes I procrastinate about little projects. Little things that.. IF I would just do it and be done with it.. I'd have something to show for it in a matter of minutes. So I finally worked on the silhouettes that I wanted to hang over Miss Boo's bed. Weeks ago I took photos and Daddyman messed with them on the computer so I could trace out the shapes. The shapes have been sitting there waiting for a while now! I traced the shapes onto black scrapbooking paper, cut them out and taped them to hot pink scrapbooking paper that I already had on hand. And I hung them in super cheap 8.5 by 11 document frames from Walleyworld. This project probably cost me about $5... or less! : )

Turned out cute, don't you think????
Say yes...say yes! : )

ps.. I can't take the credit for this idea.. I think We Are THAT Family did a DIYP on this a while back. Not sure if I did mine the same way or not.. but the end result is similar. Thanks for the cool idea! : )

5 things

I saw this fun little meme at Greg's General Store and thought I'd try it. Anyhoo.. it's 5 things...about this or that. So here goes...

5 things:

5 things found in my bag..
  1. Chapstick...although it's Avon Care Deeply Lip Balm. We go waaay back!
  2. my cell phone (and ear bud)
  3. a tiny calculator
  4. wintergreen Altoids
  5. a Chick-fil-a coupon for a chicken biscuit
5 things found in my wallet...
  1. an old family picture of all four of us
  2. a used up Chick-fil-a gift card
  3. lots of receipts
  4. a bandaid
  5. a little bit of change
5 things found in my room...
  1. books/Bibles
  2. photo album of our Colorado vacation
  3. homemade artwork
  4. a stuffed squirrel and chihuahua (Beanie Babies) No I'm not 'a collector'..but the dog was a gift to Bub after he had radiation. And the squirrel was one I did buy for myself when our little Beanie store was about to close. Even though the kids really enjoyed going to 'the pet shop' and picking out a new beanie and we had plenty that belonged to them, it was sort of emotional for me when that mall closed and the store and that little piece of our 'history' was wiped out. I bought the squirrel on our last visit before it closed.
  5. an old box. I have a small wooden box that was my grandmother's that sits on my dresser. It has little odds and ends that belonged to her in it. From old cloth hankies of hers to other little trinkets that I remember fingering when I was a child.
5 things I've always wanted to do...
  1. go to the NYC/DC area
  2. go to Hawaii
  3. learn to swim. I've always been afraid of water and never taken the plunge and learned to get over it.
  4. own a 5th wheel or a motor home or some other kind of vacation house on wheels.. can you say my own sheets and towels???
  5. build and live in a 'green' home... and live completely off the grid. This thought it fascinating to me for some odd reason. lol
5 things I'm currently into...
  1. scrapbooking.. a little
  2. crafty stuff.. a little
  3. reading blogs (and writing one).
  4. the Wii Fit
  5. the book of Genesis
So there ya go... my odd little list of 5 things. If this sounds fun, then make a list! : )

musical thoughts

My hubby told me about a conversation he had with Miss Boo the other day on the way to school.

Yes, HE takes her. I know. I love it! Not since the dawn of time have I been able to get my peeps ready and send them on while still in my furry housecoat and slippers. Pass the bon bons. It's about time for Rachael Ray.

Anyhoo..back to the story...

She was picking what she wanted to listen to on the cd that was playing. When we went to Disney and saw Cirque du Soleil, he bought the sound track. The music is very cool and eclectic and sort of opera'y. Not really my thing. At all. But he has a very wide range of musical tastes. And so does she. So there she was contemplating one of the unspoken perplexities of life while she chose a song to listen to from La Nouba and this is the thought that came out of her mouth....

..."you know, when I sing with the music while my iPod is playing, I can sing real good. But then when I try to sing without it, I don't sing so good.".

By this time I am already laughing. But then I had to ask him what he said back to her. Of course I can't remember his exact words but they were something to the effect of 'yep'.

A man of few words, my hubby.

not much goin' on

Sometimes it feels like every time I turn my head, I think wow, there's a blog post. And then there are the other times. Like now. There are things going on, but not things I can really write about. So it's a pretty quiet week for me.

I was just walking by our bedroom window.. a huge 'picture window' and noticed a squirrel playing in the flower bed right outside. So cute. Our weather is good for a bit, then it gets chilly again. The sun is out now and it looks beautiful out, although I haven't been out much this week. When I dressed this morning, I put on jeans and a pajama top. I guess that says something about my ambitions today, huh?

I'm looking forward to having more ideas to write about. The daughter and I did a cute little video the other day and I can't decide if I want to run it here or not. It made us laugh. It was a fun thing to share doing with her. She sat behind the camera and I was in front.. sort of.. just parts of me and my voice. But anyway.. we did it and now I'm too chicken to post it! : )

As a blogger, do you ever think you've run dry of ideas...or is it just me?

So that's about it folks. Not much goin' on.

Abraham and the unexpected meltdown

I sat in Adult Bible Fellowship or Sunday School if you're old school like me this morning and one of the passages to be read was Genesis 22:1-13. I quickly found the passage and realized what it was about... when God instructed Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. They were fishing around for someone to read the passage aloud in our small group. I sat motionless, holding my breath, lest someone call on me to read.

I knew I would not be able to get through it. Thankfully someone else read the passage.

Then it was time to discuss it. We were gleaning from this encounter.. not studying it per se. We were talking about having a relationship with God to where we can hear Him. I think. I got lost in my own thoughts.

Sometimes grief sneaks up on me. I hate it when that happens. And I hate it when I want to contribute to the conversation during these times. I thought I could say what I knew God was saying, but I got terribly choked up and couldn't say all that was on my heart. I got very teary and then there was the awkward silence while I quietly lost it for a moment. And then class went on.

As I sat there, I began to wonder. Do they know? I know some of the folks in our little circle know about Bub, but others don't know me at all. It must have seemed odd to them for me to fall apart. But I wondered.. did they know? Did they know that I had prayed and given my children to Him on the altar so to speak.. only to find that there was no ram caught in the thicket for one of them??? While I sat choking back tears for a moment, that was the question on my heart.

WiiFit Friday update # 4

I feel like I don't have much to report. I've been doing my WiiFit some days... other days not. I have the standard excuses. Too busy. Sick family. Had company. But I know that even when all these things are going on, I could be working harder at this. But I'm not. I hate that.

But anyway..here's the rundown:

Friday - no. I had a hundred and one things going on that day.

Saturday - yes, but only 25 minutes.

Wednesday - yes. 30 minutes. Woo hoo! But the last couple of minutes were me doing Lotus Focus.. which I basically did so I could sit down. So I don't see that counting for much! I also had my legs folded on the floor. I'm not flexy enough to get them up on the board with me. Maybe when I was 12.. but not now!

Thursday - yes! I did 30 minutes in the evening. It isn't my favorite time of the day to do it, but I was glad I at least did it. Did a little bit of yoga. Not my thing, but I will continue to try it.

I devoted an entire post to eating. It hasn't been pretty. Check it out here. I don't plan on spending an enormous amount of time discussing numbers or every morsel of food I ate. Or many if any more whole posts devoted to dieting..that's not my main focus as a blogger (not that I know what my main focus really is sometimes... anyhooo...) But my point in sharing at all is that I need to get rid of my middle, where most of the extra lbs are. I am trying not to be fixated on numbers or sizes, BUT obviously those correlate with getting to where I want to be. A flatter middle so I am at less risk for disease.

a weighty topic

I've been doing this WiiFit carnival thing on Fridays. It's a good thing. It's keeping me motivated to get on the WiiFit when I would rather not. This hasn't been a great week for that, but this post isn't really about the working out part.

It's about the eating part.

The thing I've been stinking up at lately.

In the past when I would talk to most people about my need to lose weight, they would mostly just ask 'why?'. And then I would laugh and go into 'it'. When my hubby and I married, I weighed a hundred pounds. That's all. At 5 feet, 2 inches, I was pretty much skin and bones. I've gotten past the skin and bones stage. Well, my middle has. My arms and legs are still fairly slender. Otherwise known as an apple shape. And if you've ever read much about this or watched Dr Oz or anything like that, you'll know that the apple shape is the worst because the fat is concentrated around the middle. And belly fat is largely responsible for diseases like diabetes. Both my parents had/have it.

So having said all of that... I am having the worst time with the eating part of this WiiFit thing. I can blog all day about how good or bad I've been at exercising. But my eating is out of control. And since I'm not blogging my weight, I don't get much accountability built in. So! I'm thinking about blogging my actual weight weekly as a deterrent to eating everything in sight (like I did yesterday).

Some people refer to it as the weather report to catalog their numbers, but I'm thinking about just putting my weight down every Friday when I do the WiiFit update. I'm thinking I will weigh every Friday in the morning after breakfast, since that's when I tend to do my update. And it's right about that time today.

So today's number is.... 140.5. My goal is to lose at least 15 lbs. It puts my middle in better proportion with the rest of my body and reduces my risk for other things as well. So it's not always about the number itself, but the info behind that number.

I'll usually try to document these on Fridays, but today I just wanted to get that off my chest, so to speak, so it doesn't take up all of Friday's post.

beyond sad today

I don't have much going on right now. Sometimes when I have something on my mind and heart it keeps me from thinking or writing about anything else. I've been like that the past few days. I follow Angie from Bring the Rain on Twitter and she tweeted... (oh how cool does that make me sound??? And that question is followed quickly by did I say that right???)...anyway, she tweeted about a family who's baby daughter was just diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the very end of January and she is already in heaven. I just can't shake that. I don't think God would want me to either. I am beyond sad for this family.

We've walked in the same shoes, and yet I can't imagine losing the battle so fast! We were still just getting started on our fight at 2 or 3 weeks in... and theirs is already over. I can't fathom that.

I pray that God would show Himself real to them.. as comforter and as sustainer. I know He will. Please pray for Cora's mommy and daddy and family. Her funeral is today.

100 things list, revised

A few days ago I was visiting Jill's Blog and she had done a meme and it was a list of a 100 things, and she was supposed to make bold the things she had done. I thought it was pretty cool, but then it sort of left me empty because there are stories behind those bold sentences.

So! I got an idea. I thought I would take down some of the ones that sounded like they would make interesting stories or snippets or whatever and go with it. To see the whole list, click here. But this is my shortened list with some chit chat or a story or two thrown in.

Anyhoo... I think I will refer to them by their number on the original list, so if I jump from #2 to #7, you haven't missed anything. LOL

The first one was start a blog. Well..tada! I've done that. I'm not certain of all God's purposes for me to have a blog yet.. but I am excited that I can meet some new ladies and hopefully share a little bit of what God has done and is doing as I write. And of course, some silly stuff along the way, just for fun. : )

#2. Sleep under the stars. We camped a lot when I was growing up. We could not have afforded to go on vacations had we not had a camper. I have pleasant memories of camping in all climates... from hot roll down the window flap weather, to dressing under the covers cold weather. So if that counts as under the stars, then yes I have!

#7. Been to Disneyland. I went to Disneyland in 1984, I believe. We had a wonderful time. And yes we camped near San Bernadino. Crazy, huh?! I remember being so excited to be in the actual park that Walt Disney himself created and walked around in. I was star struck without him even being there.

#18. Grown my own veggies. I've made several attempts at growing tomatoes since we've lived in this house. I looooove home grown tomatoes. I've seen those hanging things and think every year I'm going to order one and grow some tomatoes upside down!

#24. Built a snow fort. Even though I live in Texas, we have gotten some decent snows throughout my life. I used to have a playmate across the street from me and we'd play out in the snow for hours, building everything we could think of.

#34. Visited the birthplace of your ancestors. I'm going to take some liberties on this one. I remember once when visiting an older relative, we drove way out in the country (in Arkansas) and the house she lived in as a young married lady was still standing! I've seen pics of me playing at this same house when I was around 2. It was interesting listening to the older gens discussing everything from rocking chairs to where the cat used to lay on the porch. : )

#42. Seen Old Faithful erupt. I was very young. So young that our vacation pics were slides..remember the days??? We have a pic of my dad, who had been dying to see Old Faithful, staring at an airplane while it erupted. Cracked us up!

#49. Seen the Sistene Chapel. I'm going to take liberties with this one too. When the hubs and I were dating, we visited The Precious Moments Chapel. At the time, Sam Butcher was still working on it. We were never privileged to be there when he was actually working, but we could always see work in progress through the years as we revisited it. And the work he's done is magnificent. Sadly the first time we visited the chapel, our tour guide told us that his son had just been killed in an auto accident. He later painted a small prayer room dedicated to the memory of his son. That room makes me cry every time we visit.

#54. Gone to a drive-in movie. Several. Most notably I went to see the very first Star Wars movie at a drive-in in Podunk, Texas.

#69. Saved a favorite childhood toy. Yes! One in particular comes to mind. I had this very odd toy that looked sort of like a small mouse and it had this fake fur stuff on it. It was cute then, but it's sort of yucky looking now. Makes me wonder if the fur wasn't so fake. LOL I had one, as did my cousin, and we played for hours on end with our 'mousies'.

#77. Broken a bone. Yep! I walked right off a step at the vet's office and found myself sitting down in tremendous pain. This was on Good Friday of 2005. The doctor didn't think it was broken and that it should heal. It didn't. By the time I got in to a specialist and got a CT of it, it was almost summer. I got my cast on the day before school let out. I spent 8 weeks in a cast. I had a tricked out ride though. I could go pretty fast. Wheeee! And several more weeks in a boot. The rest of the summer and part of the fall in physical therapy and I chaperoned a field trip with my newly minted foot in September a few days after I finished PT.

#79. Seen the Grand Canyon in person. Yes! On the tail end of the Disneyland trip. I loved the Grand Canyon more than all the other things we did on that trip, COMBINED...well..except for Disney. lol

#85. Read the entire Bible. Yes. But it took me 3 years. But that is ok!

#88. Had chicken pox. I had them in the 5th grade. One of the only times my grandparents stayed at our house. We usually visited them. They gave me a set of playing cards with puppies on them and you'da thought they gave me a million dollars. Simple things.

#91. Met someone famous. Yes. On the same trip with Disneyland and the Grand Canyon, my dad wanted to visit Roy Rogers' museum. And being the huffy, attitudinal teenager that I was, I dreaded that day. Boring old people stuff. But as we walked around I began to have great respect for this man and the amazing life he had led. And the faithful, outspoken Christian life he'd led as well. Pretty cool. And next thing you know, there he was. He used to regularly visit the museum and greet the guests. So it turned into a pretty cool day, interestingly.

#99. Been stung by a bee. More than once, but a funny one was at McDonalds. I got stung on the hand as I was walking in one time. I panicked because the stinger stayed in. I finally found someone to help me get it out. LOL (I wasn't a mother back then and didn't have a clue what to do!)

#100. Read a book in one day. I've done this several times. But the most recent time was when I read Paula Deen's biography. Interesting read. Not for the kiddies though. Wow!

So there you have it... a sort of 100 list. Thanks Jill for the idea! I just messed it up some and had some fun with it.

WiiFit Friday update #3

In some ways, I feel like I don't have much to share. It hasn't been the best week ever around here. I would have felt bad telling my sick daughter that she couldn't watch tv so I could jump around and make a fool of myself exercise. And I was pretty wiped out from taking care of her, too.

Anyway..here's the rundown:

Friday: yes 30 minutes

Saturday: Yes 30 minutes. I did lunges and boxing - both for the first time. Will take me a bit to get used to the boxing thing. I'm not exactly coordinated. The lunges made my legs pretty sore, so that's a good thing. I felt like I could have gone longer than 30 minutes, which is also a good thing, but I had to do something else.

Monday: no It was a crazy day and I never stopped long enough to do it.

Tuesday and Wednesday: sick kid. 'Nuff said.

Thursday: Yes. It was a crazy day, and I got interrupted more than once. The first time, I barely got the machine going and the phone rang. And then towards the end of my 30 minutes and during a run, the doorbell rang. Something about the plumber and water gushing outside bla bla bla. Whatever. My Mii was waiting on me to finish my run when I got back in the house. : )

About eating: I have been eating like there is no tomorrow and that drives me nuts. There are times in my life when I've been 'working out' that I haven't wanted to woof down everything that's not nailed down. Having a little trouble with that right now. Having said that, I went from normal weight to overweight between Saturday and Thursday. Bummer. But on the flip side... the scale on this thing is wonky, in my opinion.

I am still trying to work on some sort of routine. Having different things to concentrate on each day etc. Haven't sat down with it to figure out a good system yet. As I was peeling myself off the floor the other day after doing jack knifes, it congratulated me on doing so well and unlocked more reps. I 'bout threw up just thinking about that. But then it hit me (duh).. 'back in the day' when I used to work out, I didn't do 30 or 40 of something at one stretch. I did SETS. So I think I'm going to start trying to apply what I used to do in resistance training to this and do shorter reps and more sets. Might keep me from tossing my cookies when I do jack knifes! LOL

Another question... doing the tricep work.. I can't remember what those are called.. you hold just under your elbow and then bend the other arm back holding the wiimote. I get that.. but then the trainer chick says that if you get good at doing that, you can increase the weight by holding a water bottle etc.. just exactly how am I supposed to hold a wiimote AND a water bottle. Because it is actully keeping track of the ups and downs of that hand. If it weren't keeping track, I could understand the water bottle comment, but since it does.. I'm a little stumped. Any ideas? This one seems like a waste of time to me. I need weight. I might skip using the Fit for this and use my resistance bands instead. Dunno. It just feels like a lame movement with no weight. But that's just my opinion.

I'm thankful to be able to link up with others, because without it I would have quit a long time ago. And knowing I would be posting on Friday and I told people I was gonna do it has made me step on when I would rather be lazy. So I'm so thankful for this. I just need to stop eating so much and get a move on.

observations and a 'why'

Today is a quiet day. She's over the worst of being sick and just trying to get back into the eating groove and get her strength back. It's amazing what just one day of being sick can do to a girl. And she's such a thin little thing anyway, so she just looks gaunt very quickly to me when she's sick. I hate that.

So today is all about observations.

Homework isn't any fun when you'd rather just lay around and try to start feeling better. Of course homework isn't fun on any day. But you know what I mean. Not feeling bad enough just to lay around, but not totally with it either. This is where we are today.

And yesterday was a 'kid tv' watching sort of day. Oh joy.

She watches iCarly sometimes on Nickelodeon. It's not my faaaavorite show, but other than benign humor and corny put down sort of stuff, I haven't ever seen anything baaaaad. I guess I haven't been listening hard enough. I caught parts of two episodes yesterday when I wasn't busy taking care of her.

And it made me very sad. I know that I 'know' tv isn't the best and I 'know' I should be more on the alert for trash, but sometimes the reality of it takes me by surprise. I guess that's where I was yesterday.

I won't bore you with plot lines here...because face it.. there isn't much to speak of LOL... and because it's not that important. But I will attempt to discuss a couple of the alarming things I heard/felt while she watched. One of them was about a boy that had never been kissed. A girl mentioned to others that he had not been kissed and he got laughed at at school. Finally the girl goes to the boy and tells him she's never been kissed either. They proceed to kiss, even though they dislike each other and cut each other down in every episode. That just made me sad. Affection and something that perhaps could be shared only with one true love was thrown around like it was brushing up against someone's coat on accident or something. It really disturbed me. And the other weird thing was a thing where, Carly, the girl in the show, is trying to give out prizes or something and mentions this list of strange things but included in the list is a picture of a man that get's pregnant. Hmmm... snatched that one right out of the headlines. I just about died. Boo caught that one too and made a comment that it was a pretty nasty thing to say. But I just kept thinking...why??? Why did they have to say that rather than something else that was just plain ol' silly?

I tend to forget that there is an enemy that is out to get her soul.

It made me wonder.... what else has she heard in that show that I've missed. I haven't sat down and watched every episode of this show with her like I did with Hannah Montana.

Maybe I should.

because she's sleeping

I can sit and type a post now because she's sleeping. My girl is sick today.

And I had to get out 'the buckets'. I hate the buckets. They represent a lot.

I feel weird when she's sick and it's just one of those things. It's so minor in the grand scheme of things.

But it can evoke some pretty powerful feelings.

So that's my day. Helping her when she needs it. Putting her hair in a ponytail for her and covering her while she sleeps on the couch. Jumping if she moves. Washing her face for her 'after'.

Poor girl. She feels so bad. She's growing up, but then on a day like today, she's still so small and vulnerable. My baby.

I hope I don't catch it. : p
