Two and a Half Years
Overall things are good. Actually, things are really, really good and I really could not be happier right now. Life in general is good, much, much better than it had been that is for damn sure. I'm happy, smiling, going out with friends, having fun, living life, being loved again and in love again. All of which I'm so incredibly grateful for you have no idea. Then one night last week while I was at home alone I went to pay a bill and looked at the date. Then a small little "wave" of emotion hit me. It was February 20, a date that has no specific meaning to me. Then, all of a sudden it dawned on me, February 18, 2011 had come and gone without me even noticing, without me even giving the date a second thought. My stomach hit the floor, February 18, 2011 marked two and a half years since Shawn's death and I didn't even realize that it had passed. I felt awful. When Shawn first died I counted every hour, then every day, then every week. It moved onto me counting months, then years. At every six month mark I remembered the day and then at this last six month mark, I did nothing. I didn't even realize that it had passes. It made me mad feeling, a little guilty feeling, and a little ashamed feeling. I sat on the couch and talked myself out of a major meltdown. I turned on the T.V and watched some major trash to get my mind off of the fact that I did not acknowledge the two and a half year mark. I went to bed later that night and told myself that it was "okay" that I had not acknowledged the day.
The next morning I woke up and was in a great mood. I went to work and did my day to day routine. I got in my car on my lunch break, turned on the radio and heard the song by Faith Hill from the Pearl Harbor Soundtrack, "There You'll Be" That song totally reminds me of Shawn, the lyrics are my life. I then sat in my car and bawled. I was missing Shawn plain and simple. Don't get me wrong. I think about Shawn every. single. day. I repeat...every single day I think about him. I will always, til the day I die think about Shawn every single day. But for some reason that day I was thinking a lot about him, even more than I normally do. It was a feeling that I just could not shake for some reason.
I got back from my lunch break and got back into my classroom where I proceed to feed a few babies, put a few babies to sleep and then rock another one to sleep. While rocking her I sat in the chair with a few left over tears streaming down my face. I was wishing that I could see or talk to Shawn again. If even for one minute I wanted to have Shawn wrap his arms around me. I wanted him to hold me, just for one more time and tell me that everything was going to be okay. I wanted to be able to smell his skin, feel his skin. I wanted to be able to look into his eyes and hear his voice. I just wanted to be with him. I know this will happen from time to time and I'm guessing it probably always will. No matter what happens in my life, or how happy I am, I know that I will always miss Shawn. I also know that sometimes the grief and sad feelings will hit me when I least expect it.
People around me had no idea of my feelings. I have gotten really good at being "strong" and not letting on to people when something is bothering me. Only two people knew that day that I was off feeling and they were Jennie and Meg. I ended up texting both of them because I was just that sad feeling. As usually both of them were 100% supportive and understanding. They both told me that days like that would still happen. Which I know, and I have also come to accept that waves of emotions come when you least expect them too. I have learned that grief hits you when you don't really think it will. I've also learned that is when grief likes to take a bit out of you...when things are going good. I think it does that just to mess with you. Not like becoming a widow at 30 doesn't mess with you enough. Grief sucks! It always will!
I really only felt like this for a day and a half. It wasn't like I was constantly sad, or crying, or in a funk. It was more like I was sad in the back of my mind if that makes any sense at all. I still went about my day to day life and like I said, nobody even noticed.
I have also learned that it the two and a half years since Shawn has been gone that life does get better. That is something I for sure did not believe in the beginning. It's something I did not even want to believe. However, it has and I'm so blessed and grateful for that. I'm so happy that I have found Ry and that I have him and his two amazing children in my life. I'm happy that we have made our own little family even though it's not the "traditional" family. I'm happy that I have met an amazing group of new friends. I'm happy that I can now once again look forward to my future and what it has in store for me. I have also realized that I'm incredibly lucky to be able to love two great men. Two great men who also love me, two great men who have each taught me different things about life. I love each Ry and Shawn so so much.
I have also learned that even though I love Ry and my "new life" and "new normal" it does not mean that I will EVER stop loving Shawn. At two and a half years I've realized that it is okay and will always be okay to miss Shawn and to have days where I want him back.
Two and a half years has gone by. I still remember the day of August 18, 2008 like it was yesterday. Details of that day are forever etched in my mind, they will always be with me. Even though it feels like yesterday in another way it feels like way more than two and a half years. In many ways it feels like 100 years. So much of my life has changed, nothing is the same in my life as it was that day. A lot has changed for the better and I'm so grateful for that.
Two and a half years has gone by since I have lost the one and only man I thought I would ever love. But because of his love and what he taught me during our time together and the type of relationship that Shawn and I had I am able to now love another amazing man again. Loving another man is something I never thought would be possible.
Two and a half years...seems like yesterday...seems like a lifetime ago...

Happy Valentines Day
I used to be like this...
Then I met a girl...
She was like this...
Together, we were like this...
I gave her gifts like this...
When she accepted my proposal, I was like this...
I used to talk to her all night like this...
And at the office I used to do this...
When my friends saw my girlfriend, they stared like this...
And I used to react like this...
But on Valentines Day,
she received a red rose from someone else like this...
And she was like this…
And I was like this…
Which later led to this...
and this...
I felt like doing this...
I started doing this...
GIRLS!
My friend Meg sent me this the other day and I thought it was kind of funny, so I thought I'd share it with you. Hope you all have a great day spent with the ones you love the most!

A Child's Perspective
I want to share with you a conversation that Ry's daughter, who will be eight in a few weeks and I had the other day. Here is a little background information first J. It was actually J.J's (that is what Ry's daughter wants me to call her on my blog) idea for me to re-due my blog. One day a few weeks ago she was looking at my old blog and saw my wedding picture up at the top. She asked me if I was married before and I told her I was. She asked if I had gotten divorced like her Mommy and Daddy. I told her no, and told her that Shawn had died because his heart was sick. That was really all the further the conversation went. Without skipping a beat J.J asked if she could help design my new blog look. With that the two of sat down and started looking at other blogs to get designs for my new blog look. The two of us looked at blogs for days until finally I found Jessica's blog and decided to go with her. However, J.J. gave me her input on colors for the new look. She also told me that she wanted my new blog to have a picture of the four of us.
The day Jessica finished my blog I called J.J into the living room for her to take a look. I'm happy to say she loved it and she told me she was very happy with the outcome of the makeover. I love the things that kids say. Anyways here is the main conversation I wanted to share with you.
As we were looking at the blog J.J was very happy that there was a picture of Ry and I and one of the four of us. Next, J.J saw the picture of Shawn and asked me why I still had that on my blog. I told her that Shawn would always be a big part of my life and just because he was in Heaven did not mean I don't think about him anymore. I told her that I loved Shawn and that I always would love him. Once again J.J asked me about what happened to Shawn and once again I told her that he passed away because his heart was sick. Well, she started reading the side bar on my blog and read that I was pregnant. She asked about why I don't have a baby. I told her that the baby was also sick and that the baby had died a few weeks after Shawn. She looked at me and had tears in her eyes and told me that she felt really sad for me because two really bad things happened to me. She then asked if after Shawn and the baby had died if I was lonely, because she said she would be lonely if someone she loved had died. I explained to J.J, that yes I was very lonely and that having Shawn and then our baby die was one of the hardest things that I have ever gone through in my life. I told her that after Shawn died I packed up the house I had with Shawn in Ohio and moved back to Michigan with Bethie and Dave (my parents)
J.J is a very smart and very inquisitive almost eight year old. She then asked me how long I lived with Bethie and Dave and was sad and lonely until I met her Daddy, her and her brother. I told J.J that I lived with my parents for a year and a half when I met Daddy and then just a few weeks after I met her and Lil Man (her brother) she asked if after I met them if I started being happy again. I told her that I will always miss Shawn and be sad that he is in Heaven, but I also told her that yes after I met her daddy, her and her brother I have been very happy and I'm so glad that I met them and that we are all a part of each others lives now. After I told J.J that she says and I will quote this part all out.
J.J-"Hey, JenJen you know what?"
Me-"What J.J?"
J.J-"I think it's a good thing that Shawn's heart was sick and that he is in Heaven now. I mean I know it's really sad for you, but I think, I mean I know it's a good thing, you know what I mean?"
Me-"No J.J, I'm not sure what you mean, can you explain it to me?"
J.J-"Well, just think about it. If Shawn was still alive you would never have met us. Since he died and you aren't married to him that means you got to meet Daddy, fall in love with Daddy and then meet us. So you see, because he died you got to have us as your family."
Me-"Well, J.J I guess in a way you are kind of right. If Shawn was still living I would never have met you guys. I guess even bad and sad things happen to people for a reason huh? You your brother, and your Daddy are the really good things that happened to me after Shawn died. But I want you to know that even thought I love you guys I will always love Shawn too because he was a very special part of my life.
J.J-with tears in her eyes-"JenJen, I'm sorry a person you loved died, but I'm so happy about it because it means now that we get to be a family too."
Me-"J.J, I love you, I love your brother and I love Daddy. Thank you for having me be part of your family."
Insert big lump into my throat here. One lump for missing Shawn, for what was and one lump because I'm now once again so happy, so grateful to have four amazing people in my life now, be part of a family once again and for what is yet to come.
Interesting the perspective a child has on things isn't it?

A New Layout and the "Supposed Storm"
Now onto the "supposed storm"...
Well I lied yesterday. The "supposed storm" or rather blizzard I posted about last night hit with vengeance last night and this morning! There was no "supposed" about it. We had a blizzard...no lie! I know I live in Michigan but other than when I was living in the Upper Peninsula I don't ever remember seeing snow like this in the middle of the state. EVER! The storm really started to pick up last night right as I was finishing my post. The wind was howling and the snow was starting to swirl. There was wind gusts around 45 mph last night and this morning with the majority of the snow happening early this morning. It's really hard to tell how much snow we actually got because of all the blowing and drifting but there is not a spot in my yard that has less than a foot of snow. There are several places in the yard where the snow was up to the middle of my thigh, and I'm only 5 foot 4 to give you an idea of the amount of snow. Everything in town was shut down today and I mean everything including the mall, restaurants, and city buildings and that NEVER happens. I got the call a little after 6:00 this morning that our daycare was also closing...(thank you Jesus!) So I rolled over and went back to sleep for a bit and then I decided I should probably go out and try to shovel a bit. Ha! That was funny, I shoveled for about a half hour and hardly made a dent in the driveway, it was impossible to shovel it. Totally ridiculous I tell you. Here are a few pictures I took just in case any of you don't believe me and the supposed storm...I mean BLIZZARD!
The snow and a drift in the front of the house.
This is a really bad picture, but it is of tire tracks on the road. No plows have gone through the side city streets yet and there is easily about a foot of snow on them. You are going no where unless you have four wheel or all wheel drive cars.
Snow climbing the neighbors fence.
The solid white backyard. Poor Bo has no place to go to the bathroom, the snow is way deeper than he is. I shoveled him a teeny tiny potty spot on the side of the house. He is not a happy puppy right now.
This is probably the best picture. Its out the sliding door looking out onto the flat deck! Yes...we got a LOT of snow!!!!How many days until spring?? I'm so ready, I think I just might cry if it snows more. The kids are happy though...day two of snow day is happening tomorrow. Back to work for me.

This Is For All You Who Live In Michigan
After taking a few days to figure out my blog make over I was going to start working on it and surprise all of you by just posting one day and having a totally new look. Well, that just did not happen. For the last week I have looked at literally tons of websites that either offer blog templates or blog designs. I have liked some of them, but none of them really caught my eye...ya know what I mean? So I just decided I would take matters into my own hands and do the create and make over my little ole self. Okay, insert crazy laugh here. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not all that great with technology. I don't even know how to update my Ipod. (it still has the same songs on it that Shawn put on for me...know idea how to add more) So to install my own layout, let alone create and install one I found out was totally out of the question!! However, one of the blogs that I read (I'm not telling you know, I will save it for the big reveal) got a new blog make over and it was so cute. I contacted the person who did her make over (again, keeping it a secret) and guess what she offered to work with me and re-due my blog for me!!! Yeah!!! I'm so excited and I have a sneaky feeling it's going to come out 100% fantastic looking! So excited to show it all to you once we...or I mean she gets it finished. Stay tuned....
Also somehow I have managed to get really sick. I've had an on and off again "cold" for a few weeks now, but nothing major. However, Sunday night all hell broke loose. I felt fine all Sunday, then right after dinner I got a really sore throat. My 8:00 I was sound asleep on the couch and slept until 11:00. I woke up with tons of white spots on my tonsils and a fever of 101. Needless to say I felt like death when I woke up Monday morning. I took my sick self to the doctor and ended up with an ear infection, sinus infection and yes, you guessed it full blown strep throat. All day yesterday I felt like total 100% ass!! Ry was great and called several times a day to check up on me, he was so sweet. I feel a little bit better today, it still hurts to swallow and I still have a low fever but I do feel better than yesterday so that is good. I was off of work the last two days and not sure about tomorrow, will see how I feel in the morning. I hope none of you get the crap that is going around, it is just miserable!
Now for the "Michigan" part of this post.
**Note:remember I HATE winter!!
Where I live in Michigan we are under a blizzard warning for tonight and tomorrow, yes a BLIZZARD warning. I'm 33 years and I never remember a blizzard...ever! We already have about a foot of snow on the ground with 3 fresh inches we got this morning. It is supposed to start snowing badly at 10:00 and keep snowing until tomorrow afternoon. We are supposed to have six inches by 2:00 a.m and it is supposed to be the worst tomorrow morning between the hours of 5:00-10:00 am. With a supposed whopping 12-15 inches of snow by tomorrow afternoon. With temperatures around -15 below and wind guests 30-40 miles an hour. So yes, if all of this happens it will be BAD outside. However, notice how I keep saying "supposed" You see if you live in Michigan, especially where I live you hear all the time about all the snow we could end up getting. But you see, we just never, ever get that much snow, typically a "big storm" for us is maybe 6 inches. So I'm very doubtful that we will actually end up getting this big blizzard.
As of right this second 226 schools and businesses have canceled, it's windy as all get out, it is snowing and my lights are starting to flicker on and off. Huh...maybe I will be wrong on this one. If I am I'm hoping it's enough to close the daycare where I work..I could really use another sick day.
Here is a funny little "Michigan" video I got form Tami's blog over at http://therothreport.blogspot.com
I will keep you all updated on the blog make over and the uhm...BLIZZARD!!
