Ánfora

An amphora is a large ceramic vessel with two handles and a long narrow neck. They appear for the first time in the coasts of Lebanon and Syria, during century XV a. C. and spread throughout the ancient world. They were used by the ancient Greeks and Romans as the main means of transportation and storage of grapes, wine, olives, olive oil, cereals, fish and other commodities, as well as fish sauces, garo type. They were elaborated on a large scale in the times of Ancient Greece and their use was common throughout the Mediterranean until the seventh century, when they were replaced by containers of wood and skin. In the domain of archeology, anorphology is a highly developed specialty. The existence of a large number of types of amphoras, their long-term evolution and a vast area of ​​use in antiquity, constitutes an important element of dating. The first Greek types had a continuous curved profile. The most modern amphorae and the Roman amphoras clearly differentiate the upper part of the rest of the body. Una ánfora es un recipiente cerámico de gran tamaño con dos asas y un largo cuello estrecho. Aparecen por primera vez en las costas del Líbano y Siria, durante el siglo XV a. C. y se extienden por todo el mundo antiguo. Fueron empleadas por los antiguos griegos y romanos como principal medio de transporte y almacenamiento de la uva, el vino, las aceitunas, el aceite de oliva, los cereales, el pescado y otros productos básicos, también salsas de pescado, tipo garo. Se elaboraban a gran escala en los tiempos de la Antigua Grecia y su uso fue común en todo el Mediterráneo hasta el siglo VII, cuando fueron sustituidas por recipientes de madera y piel. En el dominio de la arqueología, la anforología es una especialidad muy desarrollada. La existencia de un gran número de tipos de ánforas, su evolución de larga duración y una vasta zona de uso en la Antigüedad, constituye un elemento importante de datación. Los primeros tipos griegos presentaban un perfil curvo continuo. Las ánforas más modernas y las romanas presentan claramente diferenciada la parte alta del resto del cuerpo.
