Gen

The Greatest Ambition (silveradept), Harry Potter 'verse, 2469 words. Author's summary: "What started as a study group for Transfiguration has become a support group for the many students who wish to live as the people they are. Without intending to, Luna has become more than just their tutor.' (part of the fandom response to JKR revealing themself to be a TERF, I believe)

Family (james), Harry Potter 'verse, Percy Weasley, 649 words. Author's summary: 'Percy has different priorities.'

The Little Mole-Maid (hamsterwoman), Hamster Princess, 3222 words. In keeping with the series, this is a mash up of a traditional tale.

Ever Dreamed this Angel? (YoureMySunshine), Good Omens, 1630 words, Author's summary: "A thread of people discussing a reoccurring dream about a guardian angel who encourages them to ask out their best friends."

The Lair of the Elder Gay (lyricwritesprose), Good Omens, 4644 words. Author's summary: "Members of a D&D group speculate about the nature of a strange bookseller while trying to navigate coursework, finals, and relationships.". Part 1 of a series ("Myth-taken"). Parts 2 and 3 also adorable. Parts 4 & 5 have relevant warning tags. Part 6 has covid mentions. [series total, 13 007 words]

Teen and up

my dear acquaintance (isozyme), Good Omens, 1044 words. Author's summary: 'Aziraphale walks into a bar, meets a composer, and learns about yearning.'

An Angel and a Demon Walk Into a Therapist's Office (dragonimp), Good Omens, 16 359 words, Aziraphale/Crowley (Good Omens). What the title says. Less irritating than the last of this sub-genre I read, some interesting commentaries masquerading as fic. Part I of a series.

Set Fire To The Preacher (munchmulch), Good Omens, 3516 words. Heaven reclaim the bookshop, Aziraphale fights back. content warning: Heaven does shitty things.

Fic Recs

Any fic I read on the AO3 that I love enough to bookmark I download, partially because I'm a paranoid individual who has seen beloved fics vanish into the ether, and partially because its a way of keeping track of what I want to rec. I'm a long way behind on this, so today I'm going to list the six stories in my 'fic to blog' folder that have been there since December 2017. Only one of them was 'anonymous' so either I didn't do much Yuletide reading in the summer of 2017/2018, or I did the majority in January. Either is plausible <3.

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by nirejseki. General audiences, The Flash/associated fandoms, Mick Rory/Leonard Snart, 6847 words. Superheroes, supervillains, and unicorns. Many unicorns, and their favourite supervillain. Also a range of plot that probably makes sense to people who have seen the show, but works as a series of vignettes for people like me who barely know the characters' names.

Deep Down, Where Your Fight Is Waiting. Teen and up, Teen Wolf (TV), Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski, Allison Argent/Lydia Martin, 14 429 words. Canon AU involving resurrection of a canonically dead character. Focus is on friendship, not the romantic ships -- road trip for Stiles and Alison. Depressive/PTSD type symptoms at the beginning of the story; these result in an act of violence.

birds of a by des-zimbits (staranise). General audiences, Kent Parson, Check Please!, 282 words. Short tear jerker set in Kent's first year as a professional, about someone who is not okay at the beginning, but a bit better than that at the end.

All Foucault, No Knickers by chaosmanor. Mature, Dogma (movie), Bartleby & Loki (Dogma), 2482. The poetry of wine tasting. Or possibly a parody of wine tasting, with lashings of Christianity and the type of philosophy that sails straight past me, but probably will make others laugh.

Below here are MCU. At this point in my reading, I was still angry about the MCU 'Civil War' movie, and it should be assumed that any MCU fics will be strongly team Iron Man.

The Best People in Life are Free by dls. General Audiences, MCU, 1780 words. I think this part of the author's summary says it all: "It was time for Tony Stark to stop paying for the Avengers’ problems".

No Second Chances by Wix. General Audiences, MCU, Stephen Strange/Tony Stark, past Steve Rogers/Tony Stark, 5211 words. Team Captain America return to the compound, Stark is required to help them, things go poorly. Not a cheerful fic, but decidedly cathartic.

[lookee what I found in my drafts folder... original date 29/12/2013]

In the interest of closing tabs in firefox and clearing out the notifications in my email, I'm reading through a collection of fic. Here be the ones that I've enjoyed enough to bookmark. Warnings are on the individual fics, as are the ratings - everything from G to R.

Maiden's Head (author: Missy; fandom: Princess Bride; 1080 words) - In which Buttercup foils another of Humperdinck's dastardly plans.

A cup o' Kindness Yet (author: Chash; fandom: Teen Wolf; 869 words) - Alison is too wrapped up in study to celebrate New Year's Eve, Lydia brings the party to her.

The Stakes are High and Scratchy (author: HugeAlienPie; fandom: Teen Wolf; 1382 words) - John and Stiles challenge each other to make a move on their respective love interests. All goes smoothly, general xmas schmoop.

depth of field (author: verity; fandom: Teen Wolf; 3058 words) - a slightly sad and sepia story about various characters working their way back to health.

tsundere (author: Chash; fandom: Teen Wolf; 1409 words) - hilarious exploration of how a human feline cross might actually act, mixed with the usual Derek Hale characterisation - Stiles goes to college, and meets his felid room-mate Derek.

the way of cain (author: james; fandom: Battlestar Galactica (1978); 1893 words) - 'slice of life' about the way that Cain sees fit to raise his daughter, who he knows is going to be the finest pilot in the fleet, whatever her teachers try.

everything's coming up roses (author: verity; fandom: Secret Garden; 1064 words) - odd little piece, being a cross-over of the current pan-fandom 'omega-verse' concept with a Mary/Dickon/Colin threesome.
