Went to bed remarkably early last night - somewhen between half nine and ten. Slept solidly, other than the cat trying to wake me at one point; did not want to get out of bed at six, awoke again after seven. Was then sluggish. Nice to have got some extra sleep, obviously needed it, could have done with being a bit more functional.

Rode to work! Took 49 minutes, average speed ~23.5 km/h on 3/5 boost. Was lovely weather - was neither sweaty nor out of breath at the end; sore left thumb (and wrist) has sorted itself out being held in 'proper' position, although little finger/outside of hand was quite sore. Left hip quite sore as well. Will need to talk to chiro about leg length, and whether I'm still standing with hips crooked, as seat might be appropriate height for right leg and not left.

Also, experiment with not taking steroid meds for asthma, but just using the beta agonist - four days in, and I itch less. May not be enough less, but at the moment my lungs don't hurt, so I'm happy enough.

Now, to cleaning out email from two days of leave. *sigh*,

I've managed to ride to and from work every day this week so far (I won't be tomorrow - original plan was to not go, but then I realised that there was more meeting that I hadn't worked out about. I'm only going for an hour or so, and then have Errands, so the car it is).

Today, the ride went a bit smoother going there. I've accepted that a bit of extra speed is a good choice, and bumped the power up to 3/5. At this point, the battery will do that and get me home again, dropping two the second of the orange LEDs (that includes quite a bit of throttle against the head wind). I did just over 12km on the way there before I used the throttle, which was past Canning Bridge. Home was a bit rough, but then there was more of a headwind/crosswind than there has been, rushing up the Swan.

[backdated post from offline notes]
  • rode to work again [2/40]
  • more lab updates – no real work done
  • acquired more books from a person on the trading list
  • acquired a pair of roller blades from a person on the trading list. not sure how I’m going to get the suckers home, because they don’t quite fit in the big pannier bag
  • rode home
  • went to the Perth Modern information evening
  • it rained. lots.
  • stuffed about on the internet.
On the Perth Mod info session - I was bored. Talking it over with [personal profile] artisanat , this probably boils down to 'I'm already over-invested in the place' (I grew up locally, tried out for the music program it ran when I was going in to high school, did my teaching prac there, been there for concerts over the years, my grandfather was head boy). For anyone new to the state/school system, lots of this would be quite novel. And I didn't need to be sold on it being a great place to send bright kids, I needed to be sold on it being a great place to consider sending *my* kid. Where they got me - if kid is doing Serious Sports Training that affect getting to school, they modify the timetable to suit. Which means if youngest gets to national comp level, Things can be juggled, even though school is over an hours travel by public transport. And if zie gets in, then we think about the details.

Today I survived the ride to work. More accurately, I survived the ride home, because I quite enjoyed the ride to work, but I was very tired by the last two kms or so coming home - at least one hill defeated me on the running out of gears before running out of hill aspect. However, even dead tired, it still only took 22 mins from Mount Henry Bridge to home (no idea about how long the full trips took, but I think that the trip home was close to one hour fifteen, including getting out of the building at work)

I'm a bit stiff - sitting at my desk became uncomfortable. But I got a days work done - aim of today was to look back through bits and pieces and work out where some of the year's effort is going. I have seven things I want to get done in the next two months, although two of them are currently on someone else's desk (and they are the easiest/quickest options).

Dinner was a glorious fusion, and 'four ingredients' the way the four ingredients recipe books seem to count them - commercial gf gnocchi, brassica greens, cashews, blueberries, plus oil for cooking and spice mix. Chopped greens, add to wok. Add oil, spices, keep stirring. Boil water, cook gnocchi. Drain gnocchi, add to greens. Add more oil (too much, but never mind). Stir. Serve, decorate with blueberries.

And then strawberry maple smoothies for dessert.

Life is good.
