Ok, I’m sure many of you have heard about Nintendo being greedy, filing lawsuits and cease and desists for dumb reasons, and patent trolling, and that’s what I’m here to talk about. I’ve been a Nintendo fan for nearly two decades since the Wii/DS era. And with this nonsense happening, I might be planning to switch to PlayStation soon, I’m not saying it’s definite. Now most of the videos that are talking about Nintendo’s nasty work just call Nintendo, Nintendo. As if it’s “the” Nintendo, but I know there are three companies. There’s Nintendo Co. Ltd of Japan, (the main company) there’s Nintendo of America Inc, and there’s Nintendo Of Europe in Germany. Now recently, I heard about the Switch 2 pricing, Game Key Cards, and a few others including the infamous Palworld lawsuit, and a lawsuit for Switch Piracy, even though I don’t mainly support piracy. You think I'm making a rant video or making lies about the company, you're wrong. There is a lot of videos of people discussing these topics that are in this page.

First, we’ll talk about the infamous Palworld lawsuit. According to the videos, it mentions it’s just Pokemon with guns. I’m not much of a Pokemon fan, nor a Palworld fan personally, since it doesn’t interest me, but I can tell everyone loved it, I respect that, but Nintendo filed a lawsuit for the game for whatever reason, and worse, made a patent for a game mechanic which describes a playable character summoning another character to fight with you. Even though I don’t normally play Pokemon games or Palworld, as well as not being a Pokemon fan, I agree with what most people say. It’s stupid. What’s next? File a patent for simply jumping? I also agree with many other games doing similar mechanics way before the patent was even made. It’s almost like if Sony made a patent on home products and I “mean” ALL, or if Apple made a patent for simple computers and smartphones. This is a type of patent that shouldn’t be filed. I may abide for Nintendo protecting their IP, but I draw the line at patenting a game mechanic.

Next, is the Switch Piracy. Now I don’t heavily support piracy, and on the video game side, even on PlayStation, I try to collect most of the original releases, but piracy does have advantages though. Now recently, Reddit had a page dedicated to Switch Pirating and Nintendo HATED it. So much that they sued the owner for the page. I can understand why Nintendo did this, but if a Switch 1 or 2 game is ridiculously expensive, then piracy may be the only option. Heck, Sony tried to stop PS1 piracy in the late 1990s such as having new games getting mod chip detection that will terminate the game if found. Nintendo from the early-1990s did the same thing to, as some SNES games have an anti-piracy screen. I found that out when I saw a screen on Super Mario All-Stars and it said “WARNING IT IS A SERIOUS CRIME TO COPY VIDEO GAMES” I know a lot of you are going to tell me in the comments “If buying isn’t owning, then piracy isn’t stealing” I get why you say that, but then again, I prefer getting the original copies if I can. Now back to this story: So Nintendo sued the owner of Switch Pirates on Reddit and pretty much, the rest of the videos explain the story better than I do. I’ll say it again, if a Switch 1 or 2 game is very expensive then piracy may be the only option. My fix is make them cheaper. That doesn’t mean that piracy WILL stop.

Speaking of expensive things, that’s another thing I want to talk about, and that’s Too Much Expensive Products. As we already established, the Switch 2 is expensive, including the camera, the Pro Controller, and even the Virtual Boy accessory. I get that Nintendo is a multi-billion-dollar company, but if they want money for nothing, then who do they think they are? Mr. Krabs? That’s not all, I am also aware of Game Key Cards, which to me is a waste. I’d say “Discontinue them, there’s no point. If they really want the consumer to get the game digital only, just make them eShop exclusives. But for the physical side, just make the cartridges the SAME EXACT WAY the Switch 1 did. And yes, I also heard about Nintendo bricking Switch 2s for its “Misuse” for “their” system. Like “Hey, we made this console, and we have the rights to brick your console if we don’t like you you use our console” and you have to buy a brand new one to continue playing. Although I’m not sure if it’s only the Switch 2 console that gets bricked, or if they just ban your Nintendo Account from that Switch 2. NS Online is also expensive too and I heard originally it was free. Sure PlayStation Network and Xbox Live does something similar (I think) and even Wii online gaming wasn’t paywalled. (Whatever that means, but it sounds like there’s an invisible wall until the you pay the person money to knock down a wall) I’m sure that NS online is expensive too, and I don’t normally do online gaming much.

Now here’s something I like to talk about, and that’s playing retro games on the Switch, which to me is an excellent idea. It’s like Virtual Console for the Wii. I’m unsure if that has something to do with NS Online or not, but for me, whenever its expensive or not, why would I play one of these old games on the Switch when I can play them on real hardware? That’s another thing I should have mentioned, I normally play games on real hardware, not to be cool, but that’s just how I like it. And what if they don’t have The Addams Family on SNES, or Cool Spot on Mega Drive/Genesis? Sure, that may just be my minor opinion. To put it in a different way, Streaming services like Netflix, Disney+ and Paramount+ cost money, although I’m not sure if it’s a lot of money or not. Either way, If streaming services are expensive, then I might as well resort to DVDs. Most of them are very cheap to get, but not all of them, and you get to keep it as long as you want. Same goes for a physical game. It’s not like Nintendo is going to come knocking on my door to take back my old NES. Sure, DVDs, may have downsides as well as getting scratches, but as long as you take good care of DVDs, they can last. Just because it’s old, doesn’t mean it’s unreliable.

If that’s not enough Nintendo also rereleases already existing games like Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, which were Wii exclusives and still are. If the Switch versions of SMG1 and 2 are expensive, then I’d stick to the Wii versions. Besides I grew up with these versions. But then again what’s the point. It’s like copy and paste.

Now even during the Wii U/3DS era, Nintendo was still alright with Reggie being the CEO for NOA and Iwata at the time. As what I’m supposed to know: Iwata died due to some kind of cancer, and Reggie left NOA, replaced with Doug Bowser. Now from what I can tell with what the fans say, the DB era was not good. More than not good. Speaking of Doug Bowser, I have heard recently that he is leaving NOA. I’m sure fans will be happy or something, and I’m not sure if it’s going to make a better future for Nintendo or not. With the Palworld lawsuit, overprotective IP, and stopping piracy against a person who is trying to get ready to go to court, I’m not sure which Nintendo was responsible, whenever it’s Nintendo Co. Ltd, (Japan) Nintendo of America Inc or Nintendo Of Europe. Remember, most videos mostly call Nintendo, Nintendo, but not specifically Nintendo Co. Ltd, Nintendo of America Inc, or Nintendo Of Europe. Also in these videos, Nintendo Of Europe was mostly never mentioned, and I’m unsure if they are less strict and less greedy or not. So to me, it’s Nintendo of America’s doing, or Nintendo Co Ltd of Japan using NOA as a scapegoat. (Pretty much Nintendo Co Ltd sending NOA to do their bidding for them, like suing something that’s bothering them or something like that) I still need answers.

Now i’ll say this again though, I’ve been a Nintendo fan for nearly two decades since the Wii/DS era, not only as my introduction to video games, but also my introduction to the Super Mario series. Some movies and TV shows had Wii cameos as well as far as I know and some YouTube videos or Flash games make Nintendo references as well, including DeviantArt. You can’t escape Nintendo. As years went on, Iwata died and Reggie left NOA, replaced with Doug Bowser, who is then leaving by the end of the year, I’m not sure if it’s going to make a better, bright future for Nintendo, and I mean Nintendo as a whole, the three companies. Will there be a light at the end of the tunnel? Will Nintendo have a renaissance era just like with Thomas & Friends when Andrew Brenner wrote the stories while Arc Productions was animating the series? Only time will tell, but at the same time, this also fears me that a new CEO that replaces Doug Bowser, is just as bad or worse than Doug himself. Now again, I’m not sure if Nintendo Co Ltd of Japan is behind this, if Nintendo of America is behind this, or if Nintendo Of Europe is behind this. Let’s just hope that Nintendo will come to their senses, and will start being great again. That’s something employees should know “Make Nintendo Great Again, but not by greed and anti-consumer practices” But I’m certain that they won’t listen or pretty much every single person in the whole world these days are obsessed with money, being like Mr. Krabs. But the only reason why we are okay with Mr. Krabs being greedy and the way he is it’s because he’s a cartoon! But sometimes, it’s not good when cartoons become a reality. Some YouTube videos do a similar thing as well, making a series about characters that are greedy, but it wasn’t intended to encourage people to be greedy, it’s made for us to watch! Just for the laughs! Not all movies or TV shows are educational.

And let's hope that new the new CEOs or other employees, developers, etc. will look at the Reggie and Iwata era, see what they did to make Nintendo great, and do that.
