Platformers (also called platform games) are genre of video games that focus their gameplay around jumping (with some exceptions that replace the jumping with other mechanics, for example And Yet It Moves), climbing, swinging or bouncing to navigate environments and avoid obstacles while traveling towards a goal; be it to dodge enemies, leap over pits, quite literally jump platform to platform, or for any other gameplay reason. Most platformers have a button dedicated to jumping.
