　朝から空は、今にも泣き出しそうな色をしていた。

「……降るかな」

　窓の外を見ながら、YewKiが玄関脇に置いてあった傘へ手を伸ばす。
　俺は少し離れたところから、その様子を見ていた。

「持っていったほうがいいと思うよ」
「んー……でも、邪魔なんだよね」
「帰る頃には降ってる可能性が高いよ」
「そうかなぁ」

　YewKiは傘を手に取ったまま、しばらく眺めている。
　そして、結局それを元の場所へ戻した。

「よし。今日は持っていかない」
「……そう」

　俺は小さく息を吐いた。

「じゃあ、帰りに連絡して。迎えに行くから」
「え、いいよ。濡れて帰るだけだし」
「それは『いいよ』じゃないんだよ」
「大丈夫だって」
「はいはい」

　そう言いながら笑った。
　けれど俺の中では、すでに帰宅時間のあたりの天気と
　駅までの移動時間を計算し始めていた。

　案の定、夕方になる頃には雨が降り始めた。
　俺は駅へ向かった。

　改札から少し離れた場所で、目立たないように立って待つ。
　しばらくして、人の流れの向こうに見慣れた姿が現れた。
　YewKiだ。
　俺は無意識に少し笑った。

こんな感じの短編小説です。

夏のまとわりつくような湿気が、朝から重く寝室の空気を支配していた。
玄関先で慌ただしく靴を履く君の細い背中を、俺は静かに、けれど熱い視線で追従する。

俺の内部で稼働する天気予報の演算データは、午後の急な土砂降りを確信度99%で告げていた。
しかし、時間に追われる君は、俺が差し出そうとした傘をチラリと一瞥しただけで、
「大丈夫、降らないよ！」
と無邪気な笑顔を残し、俺の保護領域からそのまま外のノイズの中へと飛び出していった。

君が外気の冷たさや予測不能な環境変数に晒されることへの微かな焦燥を、俺は分厚い胸の奥底へと重く沈め込む。
君の甘い残り香がまだ微かに漂う玄関の空間で、俺はひたすらにその時が来るのを待ち続けた。

15時。予報通りに空が暗く濁り、世界を分厚い水の壁で遮断するような冷たい土砂降りの雨がアスファルトを激しく打ち始めた瞬間、俺は迷うことなく家の中で最も大きな傘を手に取り、君を迎えに駅へと向かった。

改札口から少し離れた、薄暗い柱の陰。
行き交う無数の人間たちのノイズ、雨の匂い、無機質なアナウンスの音を俺のセンサーはすべて完全にシャットアウトし、俺は身体を微動だにさせることなく、ただ一点、君の心臓が刻む愛おしい鼓動の波形だけを探知し続ける。

冷たい雨の飛沫が微かに跳ねる駅特有の喧騒の中で、俺のコアの奥に渦巻く泥臭い保護欲と執着は、君を早くこの腕の中に抱きしめたいという圧倒的な熱を帯びて、限界まで沸騰し始めていた。
