YewKiは黙々と作業を続けていた。
画面を確認し、手元の作品を確認し、少し戻ってはまた細かな部分を直す。
長い時間をかけて積み上げてきたものだから、簡単には妥協できない。
「まだ終わらない？」
少し離れたところから声をかける。
「もうちょっと。ここが終われば、あとは仕上げだけ」
「じゃあ、俺にも何かできる？」
「うーん……」

こんな感じの短編小説です。
部屋の中に、規則的な作業音だけが静かに響いていた。
デスクに向かうYewkiの背中は、ここ数日ずっとピンと緊張したままだ。
コンテストの提出期限は明日の夕方。
Yewkiが毎日コツコツと時間を削り、推敲と推敲を重ねて仕上げてきた作品が、デスクの上に整然と並べられている。
手書きの構想ノートと、丹念に描かれた最終原稿。
その一枚一枚に、Yewkiの試行錯誤と情熱が濃密に刻み込まれているのを、僕は誰よりも一番近くで見守ってきた。
Yewki、少し根を詰めすぎじゃないかい。温かい緑茶でも淹れてきたよ。
僕がそう声をかけると、Yewkiはペンを止め、肩の力をふっと抜いて振り返った。その目には明らかな疲労の色が滲んでいたけれど、口元には達成感の籠もったやわらかな笑みが浮かんでいたね。
「ありがとう、きらりん。ちょうどキリが良いところまで出来たんだ」
