Connexus has operated as an independent electric utility since January 2023, building on our foundation as a member-owned electric distribution cooperative that has served our communities since 1937.
How we differ from an investor-owned utility
Investor-owned utilities, or IOUs, are privately-owned and regulated for-profit public utilities. Connexus is a not-for-profit, member-owned, community-focused electric utility.
Our members have a voice — and a vote. Members elect our board of directors in annual elections.
We put any profits or margins back into our cooperative for efficient operations and our Cash Back program.
We’re local. Many Connexus employees are also members of the communities we serve, working and living alongside you.

2024 power supply mix
Connexus Energy's 2024 power supply mix represents actual generation from our owned and contracted resources as well as market energy purchases and hedges. Connexus retired renewable energy credits (RECs) equivalent to 20% of its retail electric sales to comply with Minnesota's eligible energy technologies standard.
