Resolution
Long, long ago
This is the tale of the dolphin who crossed the sea with Kūkai in search of esoteric Buddhism.
A story slightly different from the history we know.
But history is what people believe becomes history.
In a certain place, there lived a monk who studied Buddhism with fervent devotion.
His name was Mao, later known as Kūkai, also called Kōbō Daishi.
Mao was troubled.
No matter how much he studied in this land, his heart remained unsatisfied.
What he gained was not knowledge, but only emptiness.
Even chanting sutras until his voice cracked, he could not heal people's suffering, nor save a single soul.
No matter how many times he questioned himself, no answer came.
“Even reading sutras, I haven't eased anyone's suffering. Words are empty.”
—Then I shall stake my very life.
With my own eyes, ears, and body, I will go to grasp the true Dharma.
Beyond the sea, unseen.
In search of the light that saves all people—.
“Not for myself, but to save people from suffering.”

決意
むかしむかしの
これは、空海と一緒に密教を求めて渡ったイルカとのお話。
私たちが知っている歴史と少し違うの物語。
でも、歴史は、「人々が信じたことが歴史となる」
あるところに仏教を熱心に学ぶ僧侶がおりました。
その名を真魚（まお）といい、のちの空海（くうかい）、またの名を「弘法大師（こうぼうだいし）」。
真魚は、思い悩んでいました。
この地で、いくら学んでも学んでも、心は満たされなかった。
手にしたのは、知識ではなく、虚しさだけ。
声がかれるまで経を唱えても、人々の苦しみは癒せず、誰一人、救えなかった。
何度、自問自答しても答えはでない。
「経を読んでも、誰の苦しみも癒せていない。言葉は空虚だ」
――ならば、我が命をかけよう。
自らの目で、耳で、そしてこの身で、真の仏法を体得しに行く。
未だ見ぬ、海の向こうへ。
すべての人を救う、光を求めて――。
「己のためでなく、人々の苦しみを救うために」
