Title
Add profile and journal link back to hovermenu

Short, concise description of the idea
Use the existing username in the hovermenu as a link, and add the userhead as a link to the profile.

Full description of the idea
In release 86 the hovermenu was redesigned and the links leading to the user's profile and journal were removed. I had always thought those links were redundant, especially as the userhead is a link to a user's profile, but I hadn't fully considered journal styles that removed the userhead.

What I'm suggesting is that the userhead be added to the hovermenu, right next to the user's name, and that both be made links just like when they're added via the lj user= tag.

hovermenu-suggestion

An ordered list of benefits
  • Adds back an apparently much-missed functionality.
  • Displays a user's chosen userhead, even if the journal style doesn't display userheads.
  • Won't take up any more vertical space in the hovermenu, and only adds 17 pixels to the width of a rather short line.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • People who don't like to see userheads will see them again.

Title
display notes on profile pages

Short, concise description of the idea
Display the notes regarding a user when hovering over a username on a profile page.

Full description of the idea
As far as I can see profile pages are the only place on LJ where notes aren't displayed when I hover over a username with the cursor. But the profile page is exactly the place where I try to find people; though often a username by itself isn't enough to identify who this is or where I know them from.

An ordered list of benefits
  • It would make it much easier to find people in the list of friends on a profile page
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • n/a

New feature of "Friends" status

Short, concise description of the idea
When you point coursor on a "friend" picture (head), it shows to you how many comments this particular "friend" has made in your LJ

Full description of the idea
When you point coursor on a picure of a LJ user, it loads the details of that user. It it it is your friend, it showes for example, if it is mutual friend or not. And some other details, like "profile, to write a message etc." So idea is to include into this list of loading details the one more point - how often this friend visits my LJ.

An ordered list of benefits
  • LJ users have LJ "friends", some of which do comment, some don't. It seems to me interesting to know how many comments how has made. In other words - who is the "friend interested in my LJ" and who is "just one of the fiends list"
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • No promlems were discovered when I was thinking my idea over... Just new future proposal

Title
Ability for Non-Logged-In Users to Disable the Contextual Hover Menu

Short, concise description of the idea
Currently, it is possible for only logged-in users to disable the contextual hover menu. It is not possible for those who are logged out (or for those who do not have LiveJournal accounts) to disable it. Since this feature places additional strain on some browsers, I would like to have the option to disable it on the logged-out version of the Viewing Options page, much like it is possible to choose site scheme and language preferences.

Full description of the idea
Pretty much said it all above. ;)

An ordered list of benefits
  • The ability to control this feature for logged-out users (or those who do not have LiveJournal accounts), who may not necessarily like this feature or find it useful.
  • Less script to load and less strain on the user's browser when this feature is disabled.

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • As usual, the time and trouble to code this option.
  • LiveJournal cookies would have to be enabled in the user's browser in order for this to work properly, same as with the site scheme and language preferences. Also, settings to certain security programs or browser extensions that affect cookies might need to be tweaked on the user's end.

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • Add the "Show contextual hover menu" option to the logged-out version of the Viewing Options page.
  • Add cookie info that would maintain this setting for a logged-out user, in the same way that is done for site scheme and language preferences.

Title
Remove community viewing options that don't make sense.

Short, concise description of the idea
When I'm viewing [http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/] as a community, there are several viewing options that don't seem to relate to communities. Why are they there? Should they be removed?

Full description of the idea
Show contextual hover menu-- isn't this only set on a user-by-user basis?

Show LJ Talk online status-- can a community be online and receive messages?

Receive email copies of LiveJournal news and updates-- if this was checked, would the maintainer be getting copies twice? What if there are co-maintainers?

Use image placeholders / Use placeholders for video content / View comment pages in your own journal style-- would any of these settings apply to the entire community if they were selected?

An ordered list of benefits
  • Viewing Options page would be streamlined.

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Someone would have to change the programming to remove all of the extraneous stuff.

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • Look over the Viewing Options as they pertain to communities.
  • Decide which ones are actually meaningful and useful to communities, and which only really affect individual users.
  • Code things to get rid of the extraneous / moot options.

Title
Instant Reply

Short, concise description of the idea
Small form to make a fast comment to the post.
The form must appear by on-mouse event, like user-info.
No new windows.

Full description of the idea
I consist, lj-user is very lazy to click on "make comment", open a new big IE window and work with it.
But sometime lj-author need only a small comment "like/dislike", "+1", "good" etc.

I think, it will be very nice to make an Instant Reply. Like it done with adding/removing friends.

An ordered list of benefits
  • 1. lj-author gets a lot of replys from his friends
    2. picture of answers will be more flexible and info.
    3. lj-user will not spent a lot of time to answer

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • more code in source of page

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • make a copy of alredy working code of "adding friends" :)

Title
Add Date Of Birth to Hover Info

Short, concise description of the idea
I would like to see more information on the hover box, especially date of birth.

Full description of the idea
Many communities require that you be of a certain age to join. This requires the maintainer going and looking at their date of birth on their user info before approving the request. With the number of communities that require this, it would be much simpler and less time consuming to have this information on their hover over information.

An ordered list of benefits
  • Less time checking new members
  • Easier to find information about people
  • Less load for for opening the profile page
  • More efficiently run communities

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Adding more information to the hover
  • Adding a check for the date of birth
  • Checking to see if date of birth is public

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • Date of birth is an important piece of information for a lot of community owners, I think that it should be on the hover box under the name. If it's public, the date would appear, if not, it wouldn't show up at all. The same as it does on the userinfo pages.
