Title iPhone app Short, concise description of the idea With the release of the new SDK for iPhone, we need a native app for posting to our LJs. Full description of the idea I know there's probably a flood of requests for this, but I just wanted to throw my own into the pile. I'd love to see an iPhone app for making LJ posts that would (possibly) pull the current, playing song; integrate location from the new "Current Location" feature in the Maps app; and allow photos to be pulled from the "Photos" app. An ordered list of benefits
- This app would appeal to the large base of iPhone/LJ users.
- Would allow more complex posts than from the Safari browser.
- A native app would allow posts to be created "offline" for posting later.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
- The only drawback is that users wouldn't have to log in to the site and view ads so it might cause a revenue problem?

Title Increase the Number of Allowed Sender Addresses for Mobile Posting Short, concise description of the idea It would be beneficial to have more allowed sender addresses for posts by email. Full description of the idea Currently users can set up up to three email addresses to be authorized sources for post by emails. For many users, at least two of these slots are taken up by their cell phones, which use different email addresses for email, text messages, and multimedia messages. It's not always possible to use cell phones to post messages. I, for example, work in a location where cell phones are blocked.
I'd like to see the number of authorized addresses increased to five or six - users may visit different locations where sites such as Hotmail, GMail, and Yahoo! Mail are not available to them, but they might have a business email account they have access to. Conversely, when on vacation, they won't have access to the business email, but probably will have access to other options. An ordered list of benefits
- More use of an excellent feature.
- Happy users.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
- Users must still log out of their email accounts and secure their computers, or other people will have the opportunity to post as them.

Title Different PINs for different email addresses, when using post-by-email Short, concise description of the idea At the moment all post-by-email addresses share a PIN. They should have one each. Full description of the idea I just started using LoudTwitter to post updates from Facebook, Del.icio.us, etc. to my Livejournal.
Giving them my user name/password seemed a tad insecure, so instead I'm using post by email, as that way they only have Write access, and can't edit or delete anything.
However, I'm now aware that if I want to revoke their access then I'll need to change the PIN that I'm using for my updates, plus any other sites I use for this functionality.
Instead, it would be a good idea if each email address had its own PIN attached to it, so that they could eb changed individually. An ordered list of benefitsAn ordered list of problems/issues involved

Title email post timestamps from the email header Short, concise description of the idea Allow users to select, as an option, that their email posts should be date & time stamped with the date, time, and timezone from their email header. Full description of the idea Currently, if you email a post, the server uses the server time to determine the date & time stamp for the post. It then looks at the most recent post in the journal or community the post was made to, and uses the time zone offset from that post. This is often a problem when posting to communities by email, since it's very likely that the poster before you either had a different timezone, or was posting by web interface with a badly off-kilter clock.
Email headers generally contain a full date, time, and timezone. Users may wish to choose among the following options for their email posting:
1. As is: Use server time when the post arrives, and time offset from most recent post.
2. Email header: Use the complete date, time, and timezone from the Date: header of the email
3. Email offset: Use server time from when the post arrives, but determine the timezone for offset from the time zone specificed in the email Date: header. An ordered list of benefits
- People posting by email would have control over the timestamps of their posts, if they want it.
- Community posts from email would have more accurate and meaningful timestamps.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
- Some email headers are badly formed or have incomplete timezone information. There would need to be a fallback for cases when parsing fails. Users who choose email-based timestamping would need to be notified of the fallback somehow (perhaps just in a note next to where they choose the option).
An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
- A new option on editinfo.bml, or the mobile post management page, allowing users to select their email post timestamping preference.
- Whatever reads the email posts would need to parse headers and pass the date & offset information on. I don't know the details of how it works so I can't make specific suggestions.

Title Send mobile post command summary to phone Short, concise description of the idea When a new user signs up for the mobile posting feature, send a list of lj posting commands to the specified email address. Full description of the idea When a user sets up an email address for mobile posting, show a button the user can click to send a summary of mobile posting commands to the specified address (presumably his or her phone).
The user can keep the text message itself for future reference, or copy and paste it into a note on a smart phone (Palm Treo, etc). An ordered list of benefits
- It's REALLY easy to implement.
- It saves the user the hassle of doing this manually.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
- Running low on coffee, too tired to implement suggestion.
- Major earthquake in San Francisco, lj offices destroyed.
- Sarcastic lj user irritates lj developers. ;-)
An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
- You can show the syntax for posting, but it's probably best not to show the actual PIN as you do on the site.

Title Add additional mobile post options Short, concise description of the idea Add a default tag for mobile posts. Also, allow more than three email addresses to mobile post. Full description of the idea I'd like to be able to specify a default tag for any mobile posts. This would at least let me pull up all mobile posted entries and tag them more accurately.
I'd also like to be able to use more than three email addresses for the purpose of mobile posting. Some carriers (mine included) use separate email addresses for text and mms messages. Three is rather restrictive, especially when the purpose of mobile posting is to allow posts to come from more devices and settings. An ordered list of benefits
- Ability to access all mobile posts using their default tag.
Ability to better organize posts using the tag system. Ability to mobile post from more devices, and in more settings, for instance where POP3 home mail may not be available.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
- Unsure of the programming procedures necessary to implement these changes.
An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
- You are already able to place tags within a mobile post, it shouldn't be hard to specify a default. The dialog where you can specify it should appear on http://www.livejournal.com/manage/emailpost.bml where there's already an option for a default user picture. Ths would also be the right place, in my opinion, for the additional e-mail addresses.

Title Add additional methods for ignoring e-mail post signatures Short, concise description of the idea Currently, when using the post by email feature, anything following two hyphens or underscores on their own line is ignored. This is used to remove automatic signatures from e-mail providers like Yahoo. However, some mail clients (such as phones) have no way of entering a carraige return. The entire message is on one line, and therefore the hyphens don't work. Full description of the idea Allow the two hyphens to appear after a <br /> or other tag and be parsed as though they appeared on their own line; or implement another method of ignoring all text below a certain point. An ordered list of benefits
- People with silly phones (probably fairly numerous) can email from their phone and successfully suppress text added by their service provider.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
- Someone might accidentally trigger an alternate text-ignoring tag if it is not obscure enough.
An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
- Add another method or flag indicating the end of text to be included in the entry.

Title Allow Users to Email and Phone Post Directly to Scrapbook without Generating a Corresponding Journal Entry Short, concise description of the idea It would be excellent if I could post to the Scrapbook Service directly from email or phone, without automatically creating a journal entry in my livejournal. Full description of the idea By allowing users to post photos directly to Scrapbook through Email or Phone, LiveJournal adds mobile photo blogging to the list of features. I'd really love to snap pictures from my phone and post them to a scrapbook album while totally bypassing a journal entry.
Currently, you can post pictures to your journal and they are automatically hosted by Scrapbook if you have the room. I'd just like to take out the journal part altogether.
Thanks! An ordered list of benefits
- Moblogging (Mobile Blogging) Capability
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
- No additional issues that don't already exist with mobile posting
An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
- Really I'd think you could copy and paste the code for posting by phone, and just remove the statement that posts a journal entry.

Title PKCS12 for email posting Short, concise description of the idea Use PKCS12 certificates for email posting Full description of the idea Use PKCS12 certificates for email posting. An ordered list of benefits
- PGP/GPG installation not needed.
Everyone have PKCS12 built-in in their Outlook/Thunderbird
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
- Some movements needed to get PCKS#12 certificate for end-user.
An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
- http://search.cpan.org/~vipul/Crypt-RSA-1.50/lib/Crypt/RSA.pm
Update: add pkcs support, not replace pgp with it!

Title posts email from cellphone - add a subject Short, concise description of the idea use default subject when there is none in email post Full description of the idea When posting from a cellphone using sms to email address @ post.livejournal.com, the resulting email has no subject.
How about a default subject for email posts without subjects? each default associated with an email address.
An ordered list of benefits
- then posts from my cellphone can have a subject of "post from mobile phone"
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
- readers will understand why i'm using sms-speak in that post.
An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
- a default subject for email posts without subjects? each default associated with an email address.
