NWT

I love naked wiggle time. It's one of the best times of the day. Second only to nap time. Ha! A very happy, clean baby, wiggling naked on the floor with toys. Kaylee loves to be naked. It's a baby thing? Either way, adorable. Something you have to see to experience, cuz I'm not posting vids of my bebe nakked on the internets!

RIP

Is it weird to anyone else that so many famous people died on the same day? I feel for their families, but have no real attachment. Which is why I find the following funny (thanks Riley):

When Farrah Fawsett arrived at heaven god granted her one wish. She wished for all the children to be safe, so god killed Michael Jackson.

Dot dot dot

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, but things are a tad strange around here right now. About once a year Galen and I get our noses severely bent out of joint and it takes a week or so to set things right. We're both non confrontational type of people and hate making the other upset. But sometimes things just need to be said and put out into the open. But we don't yell at each other, or sit down and rationally discuss things that bother us. For one thing, I'm too emotional for that. For another, we can never seem to say what we want to say. So thanks to the the wonders of technology, we email each other! It works really really well. That way we each have time to sit down and think out what is really bothering us and put it to words.

This time around it seems our plate is more full then usual. Though one topic will always be a sore one, money. I think it plagues every couple. Ah well, in a few days we'll have this all sorted out and things will be back to normal. Until then, I cook and bake like a madwoman. It soothes me. Cookies anyone?

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's day! I'm making hubby and my daddy cookies. Yum! Kaylee started saying ba-ba-ba-ba like crazy this morning, with a ma thrown in there now and then. Adorable!

Sunday Comic

Little boy: I can't wait to be a grown-up. Then I can do whatever I want.
Old man: Ha! There's an old saying, "Young men speak of the future because they have no past... But old men speak of the past because they have no future."
Old lady: Earl, I asked you last week to fix the leak under the kitchen sink! I want it fixed NOW! Not tomorrow, or next week, okay?!
Old man: Okay.
Old man: Women speak of the present because they've learned from past experiences not to trust men to get things done in the future.

So true, ha!

The Day of Poo

We're on poo #5 today. It was a screamer again. Just breaks my heart to see her scream like that, especially since there are tears now! She's been working on the juice I gave her throughout the afternoon, but it's only down maybe a 1/3 of what I gave her. And only half that was swallowed, or less. Finally got her to take a late nap, I tried at 3pm but she wouldn't have anything to do with it. Probably because she poo'd shortly after I picked her up.

We had quite the rain storm come through, but with no wind. So I took her outside to watch the wall of water on our back deck, quite the sight. Sound too, rather loud. She was enthralled. I'm going to have to wake her up by 6pm though, and I have a feeling she won't be going to bed by 7pm like normal with this late nap.

What an exhausting day. I really feel for those parents that have the clingy children, who need to be held all the time. Kaylee seems down right independent! I did get some nice play time out of her though, wiggles and all, but it was brief. Lets hope she goes to bed with little fuss.

Poo Update

I've gotten more poo out of Kaylee in the last 15 hours then I usually do in 3 days. Thankfully Karo syrup seems to work well with her. She's very clingy today and demands to be held.

Poo Can Hurt!

Kaylee has been working on a poo since yesterday. She managed to get a little bit out last night but I knew she wasn't done. Strange how I know these things now. This afternoon she was screwing her face up all red and grunting, the first time she's done this. By this evening she was crying and going redfaced grunting. Not fun! So with prunes for dinner I gave her two little drops of Karo Syrup on her baby spoon with hopes it would help her poo. Then we spent a long relaxing, and super splashing, time in the tub. Sure enough she managed to poo, but was screaming! She cried and cried after and I had to hold her all naked wrapped in a towel until she calmed down. Then the evening went into naked wiggle time like normal. Poor thing! I'm thinking it was the papaya that plugged her up, since that was the last new thing she had.

I'll probably give her a baby spoonful of Karo Syrup tomorrow to help things along, as well as getting her to drink from her sippy cup more. Her poo is pretty hard, heck I wouldn't want mine that hard, so I've read that adding water/juice can help. Plus it's prefectly acceptable to do so now that she's six months old. Has anyone else used Karo Syrup to help ease constipation in an infant?

Hunting Success!

I found 2 adorable Carter's footie pj's at a little second hand store called Pipsqueak. It's out by the Y mart near my parents. They have some things amazingly priced, like the pj's for $2.50. And other things much too overpriced. Overall I like the little store and could have spent much longer there, much to Galen's dismay I'm sure. As it is I only picked up two other outfits; one jean dress with Pooh on it, and other red dress that reminds me of the holidays. So she'll be wearing it come Thanksgiving and the like (12 mo. size). Huzzah for hunting success! Now she has four pj's that fit.

While Galen Was Gone...

While Galen was gone camping Kaylee learned how to gurgle and suck her thumb. You know how you gurgle mouthwash or the like? Yeah, she does that, only adorably. She used to chew/suck on various fingers, but now she's down to just her thumb. Only in the afternoon/evenings though. I have yet to see her do it before noon.

She has also cut down her midnight feedings, without me! The night I decided I was going to enforce the "none but one" rule, she did it herself. I dunno if I should be excited or worried that she reads my mind so well. She is also sleeping 12 hours at night now. 7pm to 7am. She used to get up at 5:30-6am. No more! I love it. Absolutely love it. I hope she stays on this schedule for awhile.

Kaylee has become much more dainty when we feed her. She used to get food all over her face, hands, arms, the tray, everything. Now she will suck the food off of her lower lip and it's a 50/50 if she even sticks fingers in her mouth. She's like a little birdie, opening up and sticking her tongue out waiting for food. :) We found out that she does like peas, but the store bought kind. The first peas we fed her were my version from the Cuisinart. At least she likes my sweet potato and carrots!

THE NEXT SURVIVOR SERIES ON TV:

Six married men will be dropped on an island with one car and 3 kids each for six weeks.

Each kid will play
two sports
and either take music
or dance classes.

There is no fast food.

Each man must
take care of his 3 kids;
keep his assigned house clean,
correct all homework,
and complete science projects,
cook, do laundry,
and pay a list of 'pretend' bills
with not enough money.

In addition, each man
will have to budget in money
for groceries each week.

Each man
must remember the birthdays
of all their friends and relatives,
and send cards out
on time--no emailing.

Each man must also
take each child to a doctor's appointment,
a dentist appointment
and a haircut appointment.

He must make
one unscheduled and inconvenient
visit per child
to the Urgent Care.

He must also
make cookies or cupcakes
for a social function.

Each man will be responsible for
decorating his own assigned house,
planting flowers outside
and keeping it presentable
at all times.

The men will only
have access to television
when the kids are asleep
and all chores are done..

The men must
shave their legs,
wear makeup daily,
adorn himself with jewelry,
wear uncomfortable yet stylish shoes,
keep fingernails polished
and eyebrows groomed.

During one of the six weeks,
the men will have to endure severe abdominal cramps, back aches,
and have extreme, unexplained mood swings but never once complain or
slow down from other duties.

They must attend
weekly school meetings,
church, and find time
at least once to spend the afternoon
at the park or a similar setting.

They will need to
read a book to the kids
each night and in the morning,
feed them, dress them,
brush their teeth and
comb their hair by 7:00 am.

A test will be given at the end of the six weeks, and each father will be required to know all of the following information:
each child's birthday,
height, weight,
shoe size, clothes size
and doctor's name.
Also the child's weight at birth,
length, time of birth,
and length of labor,
each child's favorite color,
middle name,
favorite snack,
favorite song,
favorite drink,
favorite toy,
biggest fear and
what they want to be when they grow up.

The kids vote them off the island
based on performance.
The last man wins only if...
he still has enough energy
to be intimate with his spouse
at a moment's notice.

If the last man does win,
he can play the game over and over
and over again for the next 18-25 years
eventually earning the right
To be called Mother!

Peek-a-boo!

Kaylee starting playing peek-a-boo with Galen today! I've always played with her by placing a blanket/cloth over her face and whisking it away saying "peek-a-boo!" Well she started pulling it back over her face to play again! Too precious :)

Hunting

For pj's! Seems like it took all of two days and Kaylee's 6 month pj's don't fit anymore, and I have two 9 month size ones. Ugh. Time to hunt down some jammies!

F'd in the A

We got a lovely notice as to the changes in our insurance effective July 1st 2009. Our coverage goes from 85% to 65% on all doctor visits, we no longer have vision coverage, and the max out of pocket annually goes from $2000 to $4000. Basically it means baby #2 is gonna cost us $4000 instead of $2000. BAH!

Update

Last night Kaylee was pretty squeaky. There were no leg thumpies like she usually does after a bath, and she definitely squeaked at me when I held her in one arm with a hand around her leg. So I gave her the smallest dose on the dropper of infant Tylenol, which she took just fine, and put her to bed soon after. She slept well overnight, only waking once to eat, and then up at almost 6am. I put her back down at 7:30am since she was rubbing her eyes and has been very needy all morning. She seems fine, just cranky. The nurse made a comment about knowing that one of the shots hurts more then the rest, so I'm hoping with a quiet day today Kaylee will settle down and be back to her normal self tomorrow.

Pictures are up on a new sixth month link! I took them all yesterday. Six months already! I told the doctor about the no rolling over bit, but she will stand in my lap. He watched her in Galen's lap and then through out his exam, and said that she has more defined 'fine motor' skills of an 8 to 9 month old. She can put both feet in her mouth and suck on one specific toe, and she has good hand/finger coordination. The sitting/rolling/crawling might not interest her as much as the smaller details of manipulating the toys around her. Which is all just fine. He said she might even skip the crawling all together and go straight into walking since she stands on my lap with support under her arms. We'll see!

She measured at 27 1/2 inches long and 15lbs. 10oz. That's the 95th % for height and just above the 50th % for weight. Her height is staying consistent, but her weight percentile keeps dropping. At her 4 month checkup she was at 75th % for weight. Basically she's long'n'skinny. Which is strange since I saw with my own eyes how she plumped up in 3 days. I swear she put on a half to a full pound in 3 days. There's a new roll to her neck and a new crease in her thighs. Only in a baby do we find this so cute!

After Kaylee's appointment yesterday we drove down to Tualatin to drop Galen off at his parents for camping. It was a 45 minute drive down, and a 70 minute drive back, stupid rush hour. Miraculously Kaylee was a complete angel the entire trip. Not sure how I got that lucky, but whew! Galen will be back Sunday afternoon/evening sometime and will give me a call when to go pick him up. He works Monday morning at 5am. I hope they don't get rained on!

6 Months!

Kaylee is 6 months old today! OMG! What happened to the little tiny girl? I can tell in the last week she's really plumped out, it's funny. I will update later on how her shots went. I'm driving Galen down to his folks this afternoon and he's going camping over the weekend. I'm of the opinion that Kaylee is a tad too little to be doing this, since it gets down right cold at night and I don't want to worry about her getting too cold. She loves the outside tho. More later, I must entertain the little one before she squeaks too loudly!

HA!

I crack myself up.

Captain of the SS Bumbo cleared for landing!

Damnit Jim, I'm a captain not a doctor!

A First

Kaylee and I went to another playdate today, which was all about decorating cookies! Shannon was nice enough to put it together and I look forward to when I can handle that many munchkins running around hyped up on sugar with such aplomb. She made a simple cookie that the kids got to cut out in fun shapes and then put frosting and sprinkles on. I was rather amused at the difference between the boys and girls efforts. The girls were very neat with little frosting and carefully decorated. The boys were slathered with all the frosting and dumped sprinkles on as much as they could. Too funny!

The fun part was giving Kaylee her first cookie. They were all small and rather soft, so I stuck one in her mouth just to see what she'd do. She kinda looked at me funny and then started nom'ing it like everything else. Then vigorously nom'ing! The cookie turned into mush for the most part, and I let her have a few corners before it got too small for me to hold. Like any child, she adores her cookies.

Experiments in Cooking

I've had an itch to try something utterly strange in cooking lately. Not sure why, but I think this had a lot to do with it. So I made it! I had to search through Freds, Trader Joes and Whole Foods, but I finally found the strange spices that are required. And oh is it strange, but strangely good! It took Galen at least five minutes before he decided it was good. The mix of flavors are so far beyond anything we ever eat that it took awhile to comprehend. It's the first time I've ever bought ginger root too. Mmm it smells wonderful. Overall this dish was surprisingly easy to make. And it makes a bunch of food! We'll easily have another dinner for the two of us out of it. It would feed four hungry people no prob. Hmm, if the gals in the playgroup like indian food, maybe I'll make this one for them.

Did you get any thunderstorms? We got a bunch of rain, a sudden downpour and one clap of thunder. That's it. I was hoping for more. Ah well. Yummy food in mah belly!

It's Fixed!!

Yesterday our washing machine died. It was stuck on the spin cycle and spun my load of washcloths so much they were dry. In the washer. Heh. It also had a burnt smell to it and I figured that couldn't be good. So we called the manager and a guy came out to fix it. Well he couldn't fix it on the spot so they hauled it off and returned it this afternoon. All better! The amazing thing is, if you've ever heard our washing machine... it was a monster. On the spin cycle you couldn't talk on the phone it was so loud. Or watch tv. Horrifying. Now it's sooooo quiet! Amazing!

It's fixed!

Baby Foods

Kaylee is getting baby foods morning noon and night now. Morning and noon are smaller amounts, usually half a container or less (about an ounce). While night is a full container. So far she likes the following; sweet potato, carrots, prunes, pears, apricot/apple and banana. She doesn't like peas or squash. At least on the first 3 day trial. Right now we're working on green beans and it's only soso. She will eat them when alternated with a fruit.

If I can buy a fruit or veggie fresh, I will do so and puree it myself. If I can't, like pears, I will buy it organic for her. I want Kaylee to try as many foods as possible so she can taste the rainbow! hehe. Thankfully I'm up to 2-3 hours for breastfeeding instead of the 1.5-2 hour range as before. I also bought a sippy cup to get her familiar with it. I introduced it to her before a feeding while she was in her highchair, and she drank out of it if I held the cup. Holding it on her own will take some practice.

I'm growing more worried by the day that she hasn't rolled over. She will lay on her side and arch her back while looking up to grab a toy, or look at a cat. But never all the way over. She has rolled from her tummy to back twice, but still hates being on her tummy for long. On her tummy on the floor that is. On the couch? Sure. Being held? Sure. Over my leg?! Sure. But not just on the floor. It's weird. She's a strange one. She will sit in her Bumbo just fine though, and will sit with just my hands around her waist. So we're almost to the sitting part! But no rolling over. Her six month checkup is June 11th. So close! She's almost six months old... can you believe it?
