Sunday

Because of you there's a smile in my heart...

Have you ever recieved a gift and wondered how you ever lived without it?
That is the way I feel about my new plate and bowl sets.
Aren't they beautiful?
(I want to eat that again)
My BFF Dixie who knows I have a strong love for grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup knew that my life would be more complete with a proper way of serving this meal.  She was right!
Spooky fact:
I had just purchased the makings for this meal hours before the dishes arrived in the mail.
Coincidence?
I think not!

Friday

Why pay more....

If I could have a wish granted, I'd wish I had been in that meeting.  You know, the meeting where someone said, "I've got a great idea for a sandal.  It will be suade."  Another person then pipes in, "Excuse my interuption, love the suade idea, but whenever I wear sandals, my ankles get cold."   "Hmmmm....I've got it, we will make the suade continue up the leg, not only warming the ankle, but also guarding the shins against unwanted sun rays.  I would compare it to what hoodies did for sweatshirts"
"We will call it the Suade Hooded Sandal!"
And they did.

Wednesday

Melissa's Ranting

Today I rant about actors.  Paid. Professional. Actors.
I love movies.  I love the way a story comes to life on the big screen.
Whenever I watch a dvd, I like to check the menu for "gag reels".  The other night I was watching said reels, and I had a change of heart.  I didn't think the little goof ups were so funny any more.  These actors were being paid for their work and they were goofing up and giggling!  In how many other professions would this be acceptable?
Doctors or Nurses?  "Whoops, I gave you the wrong heart, hahahahaha, let's take it from the top."
Police Officers?  "I pulled you over because you were...hahahahaha, I can't do this when you make that silly face at me!"
Judges?  "I forgot my line, could someone tell me what I was suppose to say?"
Honestly!  I think the entertainers have forgotten that it is the audience they are entertaining, and not themselves.  Case and Point, Jimmy Fallon.  Did you ever watch SNL when he was a cast member?  He cracked himself up in almost every skit he acted in.  While I have been OK with the occasional SNL giggle (allowing for an actual live goof up that was unexpected) I enjoy it a lot more when they act the way they should and leave the laughing to me.
Sum Up:
I think movie and tv show producers should start charging fees to actors when they goof up.
Now that would be professional.

Tuesday

Just wondering

I noticed today on my blog there were a couple green highlighted words that link up to sites. I did not put those there. How do you suppose they got there? I'm a little scared.

Friday

I am a winner!

I hate to brag....unless it's about me winning something awesome like this!

Monday

Just follow my nose

This evening, we were making root beer floats and Sam asked how many cans of said soda we needed. As he walked to the pantry, I said, "Two cans Sam." Then I said it again. Then I started laughing and told him he was the spokes bird for Froot Loops. I could even show him on the box because we happened to have Froot Loops right there above the root beer. I laughed and laughed, and he said, "yeah, I get it."

Sunday

7 things that made me happy this week

1. Mackenzie being able to read books to Henry, that melts my heart.
2. Reading Gone With The Wind in 4 days (I know, I'm going to stop talking about it already).
3. Erik getting to watch BSU win the Fiesta bowl from the comfort of our family room.
4. Getting to watch Megan's baby one afternoon.
5. Sam getting a note from a friend at school telling him that he is the "coolest kid in class."
6. A&W Rootbeer
7. I made friends with my neighbor across the street and now my kids and her boy play out front together after school.

Saturday

On this perfect day

Can I just tell you that I had the loveliest day?
It started at the gym with Megan. I did my gym work out 3 times this week. My instructor told our class that if we did it 3 times a week we would lose 25 pounds by the end of February. I am out to prove her wrong!
Then I spent 5 hours cleaning my house from top to bottom with my family. I sure do love my family. The kids were eager to help to be able to cross items off of our to do list.
We went to the library!
We went to the grocery store, and I got some of my favorite yogurt (vanilla cranberry).
We came home and Erik grilled us the yummiest hamburgers ever.
Then, Megan invited me to go to Macy's with her to return some items. We also ended up at Target, and I could wander around there for hours.
Now I am sitting here (because my legs are sore) and I'm just smiling.

Friday

Gone With The Wind

I really enjoyed reading this book!
It evoked so many emotions in me, it left me drained.
I even cried a few times.
Having seen the movie several times, I already knew the story. The book made me really appreciate characters like Melanie and Scarlett more fully. There is also tons more war and political information.
Good writing. Good story.

Thursday

New Year's Resolution

Just kidding, I can't resolve to do something for a whole year....unless it's eating. I could eat for a whole year.
OK, it's settled, I hereby resolve to eat every day for an entire year!
Back when I had my appendix removed (thought I'd never mention that again?), I went over 24 hours with nothing to eat. I cannot let that happen again. "I will never go hungry again!" I am almost finished reading that awesomely huge novel (Gone With The Wind) and I am loving it. It has to be back to the library tomorrow, so I am on a deadline to finish it (only 150 more pages to go). Really long books used to intimidate me, but now not so much. It's just like the old saying goes, "How do you eat an elephant.....one bite at a time." Same thing goes for reading something really big......lots of natural light.

Wednesday

Lego Rock Band is fun

I think I may have the laziest rock band ever!

Tuesday

Awesome Christmas Present

One child is a fierce competitor.
One child is just having fun.
And one child has yet to make it through a whole game.

Monday

The Gingerbread House

I guess this is a tradition of ours.
We love putting together gingerbread houses.
My Dad was in charge of frosting this year. He did a great job.

Sunday

I'd never been to a book signing before

Megan, Eva, and I went to Pioneer Woman's Cookbook book signing way back in November of '09.
We got there right as it was starting.
The book store was very crowded.
We were stuck behind some book shelves.
I took about a dozen shots like this one.
I just noticed that I actually got a picture of Rie...you have to look really close, can you see her?
Here we are waiting and trying to hear what Rie was saying.
It was Sophia's first book signing too:
I didn't know if I would get a better picture, so I took one of the poster.
Turns out, if you bring a baby to a book signing, they let you cut in line!
Don't look at my crazy left eye, it does that to ruin pictures on me. Lefty, you are such a prankster!
Rie and Me.
Little did I know that my wonderful sister-in-law had already got me a signed copy in Oklahoma City a few nights before!
I was meant to have that cookbook, and I love it!

Saturday

The Blankets

I really enjoyed making blankets for my little ones.
They are just shy of being 5' by 5' (a perfect snuggling size).
The above blanket is Sam's.
Below is Henry's.
This one is Mackenzie's
I used the same backing on all three (because I had a coupon for 40% off a single cut of fabric) it is really soft.
A close of up the stitching. I did it all on my machine. Thank goodness my parents were here while I was working on these. All of that sewing made my machine break down and my Super Dad was able to fix it.

Friday

2010

Isn't it fun that we can say Twenty at the beginning of our year now? It would have been odd the last 9 years to call it Twenty One or Twenty Five because it sounds like 21 or 25 and not 2001 or 2005.
So fun.
Isn't it also fun to be so close to 2015, where, and I quote Christopher Lloyd, "Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads!"
That is if we make it that far...
