Thursday

It's time

I have come to a conclusion.  I can't blog any more.  This will be my final post.  It's been a fun outlet, but I really feel like I should devote more time to my other hobbies (you know, being a mom, wife, keeping house, and studying to become a biophysicist).
Every thing in life has a season.  Perhaps someday I will do this again.

Wednesday

just like new

Ever notice how a toy can be put away for a while, then we you bring it back out and put some sand in it, it's like a brand new toy?
I know they wouldn't be playing with this for hours each day if it had been sitting out all the time.
I love bringing new life to things and I love sending the kids out to play.
It's a win/win situation.

Tuesday

What do you do on Sunday?

around here, I have to give both of my boys haircuts because they are starting to lose their ears and necks to hair
 and we read some
and we practice our ninja moves.

Monday

there's something missing here

It's been a while since she has lost a tooth.  This caused for much celebration last night.

Sunday

Because it's time for another post about Estelle

She has been pretty busy scratching her forehead and chewing on her fist.
 and smiling a lot
every evening, she loves to tell Erik about her day.  She is going to be a big time talker.
We love our baby!

Saturday

Kid's TV shows that I like too

 Arthur
I like the realistic stories.  I don't get why they are all animals and Arthur has a pet dog which can't talk.
Love love love Charlie and Lola!
I could listen to them talk forever and the art work is fabulous!
I have this little sister, Lola....
 Curious George
I like that it teaches every day science and that monkey is CUTE!
 Max and Ruby
Once again with the cuteness!  I love these characters.  It is odd that they have no parents.
Phineas and Ferb
They had me with the opening song.
This has quickly become a favorite in our house.  The writing is fantastic and so creative.

Friday

Good

Today was a good day.  I got to play legos with Henry.  I got to make Estelle laugh.  I got some sewing done (the word some is used loosely).  I got to watch basketball.  I got to take my family out to dinner thanks to a Christmas gift card.  and now I get to go to sleep!

Wednesday

2 truths and a lie

Yesterday, I got a lot of stuff done.  Laundry, cleaning, odds and ends, and the such.  It was a very productive day.
Sometimes at night, I sit and say, "I didn't get anything done today."  but yesterday, I had a realization that there are just going to be days where I feel like getting things done, and on those days I have super energy and I move from one job to the next with great speed, and there are just going to be days where doing nothing but keeping myself and my family fed and happy is enough.
I guess what I am trying to say is that I am part robot and I must power down in order to strengthen my energy source to combat filth and grime about 4 times a month.

Tuesday

He Larry Us

This morning I watched a video on Whitney's blog, and I laughed and laughed.
You can click on Whitney's link to watch it.  You can also go on youtube, and here is a link (click here) there are 4 episodes and I just watched them all.  Seriously funny stuff!  Thank you, Whitney!

Monday

When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by...

but I'll be thriving!  It was a cloudy day and I love a cloudy rainy windy cold kind of day, I think they are beautiful.  I also adore any time I can wear a jacket.  I took my title from a song, do you know it?  I will give you 10 seconds to figure it out (don't scroll down).
Smile, is one of my favorite songs, and the lyrics were written by Charlie Chaplin which makes it that much sweeter to me.
Smile
Smile though your heart is aching;
Smile even though it's breaking.
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by.
If you smile through your fear and sorrow,
Smile and maybe tomorrow,
You'll see the sun come shining through for you.

Light up your face with gladness,
Hide every trace of sadness.
Although a tear may be ever so near,
That's the time you must keep on trying,
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile,
If you just smile.

That's the time you must keep on trying,
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile.

Sunday

Top 5 Money Saving Tips

I have devised some money saving tips.

  1. save your change, it adds up, especially quarters because they take the place of 25 pennies.
  2. stay where you are.  Travel is not only inconvenient, it is also spendy.
  3. use candles instead of light bulbs.  Besides saving money on your electrical bill, an added bonus is that candle light is much more flattering to your appearance which can equal....
  4. using less make-up and
  5. there is a greater risk you could lose your home to a fire which could greatly decrease your mortgage payment.

Saturday

Gag! Blah! Eeek!

If I were to redo today....
I would not have gone to Costco.  I avoid that place on Saturdays like a monkey avoids an alligater infested river.
I would not have yelled at both of my boys for two different reasons that seem so trivial now.  They are forgiving boys though, and I apologized and I am starting fresh tomorrow.  I am going to blame going to Costco for my poor state of mind.

Friday

So when Sam saw me hanging up the birds, he came up with a plan to rule the universe!
We painted these planets a couple of days ago and we are going to hang them up this weekend.
Then, that made Mackenzie want to paint, so I let her be in charge of the letters for Mackenzie and Estelle.  She designed them, and painted the stripes and the flowers, and I painted the branches.
I tell you, this chain reaction stuff has got to stop!

Tuesday

I love me some cereal

I have always enjoyed a nice big bowl of breakfast cereal.
Here are my current top 8 picks (in an incorrect order)
Number 6:  Chex
I prefer them with a cut up banana.
 Number 4:  Cookie Crisp
My love of cookies combined with my love of cereal.
Number 2:  Honey Bunches of Oats
I love those sweet little clusters of goodness and I feel like I made a healthy choice.
 Number 5:  Kix
It has just the right amount of sweetness without being sugar overload.
I also love the crunchy spheres.
 Number 8:  Life
I like the flavor.  It's at the bottom only because it gets soggy way too quickly.
 Number 1:  Reese's Puffs
Best. Cereal. Ever.
 Number 3:  Rice Krispies
They taste good to me even when I'm sick.  Also have to have a cut up banana on them.  Also I love turning them into delicious marshmallow treats.  Also, I love the snapping and the crackling and the popping when milk is poured on them.
 Number 7:  Special K
I see them as the Mom and Dad flakes of the little Rice Krispies with a little bit of sweetness.
A few that didn't make the cut:
Any cereal that is of a fruity nature (pebbles, froot loops, etc)
Any cereal with marshmallows (lucky charms, etc) and that is surprising to me, because Lucky Charms used to be my favorite.  What is happening to me?
Also I don't care for Grape Nuts.

Monday

If I can do it....

Today was good.
Estelle has been in her new room for two nights and she is doing awesome. Mackenzie says she feels more comfortable and falls asleep faster since having Estelle's crib in there.
Today we did a bunch of laundry, organized junk, tidied up rooms, and played.  I love having the kids home all day.
Speaking of that, for my personal goal in the challenge this week, I choose not to yell at my kids.  Spring Break will be so much more peaceful without me losing my patience and yelling.  This is something I have been needing to do for a while.  They all happily reported to Erik that I didn't yell today.  One day down.  18 years to go.

Sunday

Breaking Spring

The following live report is brought to you by The Masitis Chronicles.
I sure don't know why they are having Spring break in the winter.  The Spring Equinox isn't until March 20th.  Come on, who do they think they are fooling around here?
Not me.

Saturday

Movin' on up

Before and after dresser
We moved Estelle's stuff into her new room today.
Mackenzie is BEYOND excited to have a roommate!
I had to hang these birdies up.
Estelle's view of the birdies, I think she did a really good job capturing the image.  She loves them and has already had a great conversation with them.
Maybe this move has her thinking she's a big girl now because she sure liked Kenzie's bed.

Friday

two odd things and a goal for tomorrow

  1. two nights ago, I dreamed a dream that I was a contestant on Wheel of Fortune and I solved the puzzle which was "Jerky's Kazoos"
  2. yesterday Mackenzie was looking out the window and she shouted, "Ice cream truck, ice cream truck!" and I looked out and said, "No, Mackenzie that is a meat delivery truck." and she replied with even greater enthusiasm, "Meat truck, meat truck!"  She really likes meat, we call her our little carnivore.
Goal for tomorrow:
Move Estelle's crib into Mackenzie's room which will hereafter be referred to as "the girl's room".

Wednesday

Whatawednesday

I registered Henry for Kindergarten today.  Wow.  Another year of Kindergarten fun.  He's going to love it.  I decided to put him in the afternoon class so that Estelle and I can sleep all the while he's gone.  That way I won't miss him.

Tuesday

Gratituesday

I am grateful for...

  1. the scriptures and my ability to read them
  2. plenty of food to feed my family with
  3. friends that keep me sane
  4. crayons
  5. a body that works
  6. a husband that works
  7. smiles and friendly hellos
  8. a baby that sleeps
  9. running water and electricity
  10. repentance and the chance to start each day fresh

Monday

before and after, the hair edition

Sunday

sad

Have you ever been at church and had to leave the room with a crying baby only to be followed out by a favored friend who informs you that the back of your dress is open and it turns out your zipper is broken and can't be fixed and you have to run home and change but you left your bag (and car seat) in the other room and the friend of friends has to go back in and retrieve said items?
Well, that must have been embarrassing.
I would totally thank that friend with your secret stash of frozen cookies if I were you.

Saturday

Yeah buddy

Today did not disappoint.  I slept in until 9am (thank you, Erik), I bought my dresser paint (not enough), and I bought some clothes (at Kohl's, you're so nosy).
So, I got it in my head that I could just start painting that dresser.  3 cans of spray paint later, and now I have to sand down all of the paint I put on the drawers and start over because it looks THAT bad.  Isn't it nice though that when you totally screw up a project, someone usually volunteers to help out, like today when Erik said that he will fix it (when is that going to happen)  (wow, I am really getting rude in these parenthesis, it's like I think that because they are in parenthesis they don't count) at some future time.  My problem is, when I start a project I like to have quick results and a fast finish time.  Probably why I can't write that novel that's been in my mind about a girl that falls in love with a mummy, but she doesn't know he's a mummy, but when she finds out, she's all like, "make me a mummy!" and then there is this big battle between the mummy people and the teenage wizards and one of the wizards falls in love with the girl, they go on a few dates, but she just isn't in to him, so he gets upset and puts a spell on her and she falls into a deep sleep and can't awake for 100 years, but that's cool because the mummy waits for her, and when she wakes up and looks into the mummy's eye sockets, she proposes marriage, so they go to Egypt to get married because that's where all of his family is, but just as the ceremony begins, the teenage wizard comes back and puts her to sleep again.
There's also this story within the story that involves a bee keeper and his quest for the perfect hybrid car which takes him all around the world.

Friday

Fried-A

Hooray for Friday!  I love this day.  Sam and Kenzie don't have homework, Erik usually comes home a little earlier, the weekend is before me, and I just feel more relaxed.  I just sent the 3 eldest upstairs to fall asleep with a movie.  Estelle is hiccuping in the background.  I have nothing planned for my day tomorrow.  Maybe I will go to the store and get some paint for the great dresser project.  Maybe I will go shopping for a new outfit with my Christmas $.  Maybe I will take a giant nap.  It's nice to have options.
I am getting my hair cut on Monday!  I plan on posting before/after pics.  How short should I go?  I took a picture of a hairstyle I liked (in the grocery store on a box of a hair coloring kit).  It is a shoulder length bob with a few layers.
Fun stuff.

Wednesday

10 Jobs I could see myself doing

  1. Librarian
  2. Actor, but I want to direct
  3. Interior Designer
  4. Cashier (but only with an old school register)
  5. Advertising Executive
  6. Psychologist
  7. Game Show Hostess
  8. Architect
  9. Painter
  10. Pastery Chef

Tuesday

Memories

I was watching Wheel of Fortune this evening.  I remember watching that show in my youth with my family.  Do you remember when they had to spend the prize money on merchandise set up like a living room?
I found this clip on youtube and laughed and laughed. 1981 is before my recollection, but you get the idea.  Best parts:  When the model (Susan) comes out and runs her hand through her hair and the floating head during the prize buying section.
here is the link if you want a laugh: Wheel of Fortune clip
