Cowgirls!

Ella and Rory were delighted to wear the outfits Grandma sent them from Kansas yesterday. Ella insisted she was a cow, not a cowgirl. Rory was obsessed with the boots on her shirt. They also loved the crocheted blankets Grandma made for their babies, especially Rory. She's been carrying it around everywhere with her baby wrapped up inside.

Week 31

Here I am with my growing belly yet again, this time at 31 weeks. My appointments switch to every 2 weeks now, which means the beginning of the end. We still haven't even come close to settling on a name, but I suppose we will get there eventually. We could always go with Ella's suggestion of Stinky. He might resent us a little for that later on, though. I'm getting a little nervous about having 3 kids, 3 little kids. Hopefully I will be able to pull it off. I've heard the transition from 2 to 3 is the hardest, I can see why. I have 2 arms, not 3! What happens when they all run off in different directions! Eek.

A most flattering view from the top. :)

Book Worm

I LOVE to read. The bad thing is, once I start a really amazing book, pretty much all that I want to do is read until I finish it. That means putting off everything I possibly can just so I can escape into my book of the moment. Sometimes I think I need to slow down and savor a book, but that never happens. Here are some of the best books I've read this past year. I would highly recommend any of them.
The Time Traveler's Wife
by Audrey Niffenegger

I am in love with this book, my favorite in a long time. It is a love story that made me cry at the end. (which doesn't happen easily). I read it twice in a row I loved it so much. One of those books that makes you feel like you are personally invested in the character's lives, to the point where you can't stop thinking about it once you've put it down.

The Last Boleyn by Karen Harper

Recommended to me by a friend in my studio class. It was so good, and quite historically accurate, I found out. It made me really glad I was not a woman in the days of Henry the 8th. Or really any other time than now. It is a love story also. (You will notice a pattern there)

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

A really fun book, fast reading. Interesting because the characters are circus performers and workers, which to me gave it a somewhat magical feeling. It too, is a love story, one told through an old man's memory.

19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult

This book is really intense, really emotional. It is about the events leading up to a school shooting and the effects of the actual tragedy. It bounces around in time a lot, but I never found it confusing. I liked it because it started when the children were born and showed what contributed to the choices that they made. Smart book. I've never read any of her other books, but I'd definitely be willing to since this one was soooo good.

Suite Francaise
Irene Nemirovsky

Written by a woman during the occupation of France by Germany in WWII, this book was never actually finished because the author didn't live through Auschwitz. (It was planned to have 5 parts but only 2 were completed). It has many different characters and their stories of life in occupied France, so it is fiction, but strangely not because of the circumstances under which it was written.

The Little Friend
by Donna Tartt

To me, this book should be a Classic. It reminds me of To Kill a Mockingbird, but darker, with grimier but just as captivating characters. It is some serious reading, the author is very detailed and descriptive, I felt as if I was living in muggy Mississippi while reading it. I read the author's first book a while back (The Secret History) and I was just as impressed with this book as I was with her first.

I could blog all day about books, I guess I am a little nerdy, okay maybe a lot. But I'll stop there since it is taking me a long time and I could be reading my book. :) I would love to hear everyone's favorite books that they've read or are reading!
