Violets are pink.

Violet loves pink, as do many girls her age.  Pink and purple. She loves to go by the big pink chair that is in downtown Mesa. She calls it "the best chair ever."

She is quite the little lady. The other day we were walking outside with just her socks on.  She looked down,  then looked at me and said,  "I just have socks on,  apparently."

Just one example of many things that Violet says that make me think,  where did this girl come from?!

I love her.

Bake me a cake

Sunday's we have dinner at my parent's house. We are usually in charge of dessert.  Of course, Rory loves to help. It is something we do each week together, our rare time alone, or at least trying to be because everyone else interrupts.

We tend to use Martha Stewart recipes,  because really she is the best. Our favorites so far have been the pineapple upside down cake, peach tart, chocolate chocolate bundt cake,  and pumpkin cake. I just love home made cakes. They take a little more effort,  but taste so much better. And once a week baking is doable at this point.

Rory is the kind of girl you want on your team. Forever helpful and happy to help,  smart,  hard working, and giggly. She is already amazing, but man, I can't wait to see what she is like grown up. Actually I can,  but you know what I mean. That goes for all of my very different, very incredible children. They amaze me everyday.... And exhaust me,  call me out,  teach me and humble me.  I love their little grubby handed selves.

On a mission

My baby brother just left on his mission to Carlsbad,  CA. I am so happy and excited for him.  What a great time in his life!  I know it will probably have its ups and downs,  but really,  when is he ever going to have this opportunity again. There really is nothing else like it.

And thank you, Shaun, for being such an amazing uncle and example to my kids. You will teach them more by being away then you ever could here. (which says a lot) They are so proud of you and so am I.

The Morningside of the Mountain

This past weekend we escaped the heat and the city for a few days and headed up North to the cabin.  We are so grateful for this little place! Breathing in the mountain air and feeling a bit chilly was just what we needed.  We were joined by our good friends, the Hardisons,  and their cute little Margo.  I think my favorite part was just being outside with friends and my little family.

It was nice to have daddy cooking for us again, too.
