portraits

a few weeks ago i had the girls portraits taken. i'll leave these up for a few days, but technically they are copywrited.
aren't they lovely? i can't decide which is my favorite.

extreme weather

i just turned the heat up to 80 degrees, the kids put on swim suits and i have hawaiian music playing.

the weather outside is frightful and delightful. we must have almost 2 feet of snow in the yard. i have never seen this in all my years in portland. we took a sled out earlier for quick spin around the neighborhood to deliver some cookies. pulling 62 pounds of girl in a jerry rigged sled made from a tupperware wrapping paper holder and a jump rope was a work out!

snow!

this morning portland is blanketed in snow. as i savor my morning coffee and ponder the commute to labor and delivery, i want to hold on to the magic of snow.

last week we had a few days of pretty light snow- you know you could still see the grass beneath but the kids wanted to be out making snowmen anyway. school was canceled a few days ( of course , this is portland afterall.) not that it mattered to me since i had a houseful of sick kids. we made snow angels , attempted a snowman un successfully and settled for hot chocolate and a movie.

yesterday we got the real stuff. huge flakes floating down, along with tiny flakes blown sideways by the wind. after a few hours this added up to 6 or so inches of beautiful white snow. it is absolutely breath taking outside. we only had snow like this a few times when i was growing up, so it feels like a rare gift.

the kids will be home with my mom today, and i imagine will spend some time outside. i hope i come home to a snowman.
