Matthew Picks

I can not figure out how to write captions under the pictures but I wanted to tell a sweet story about the pictures of Matthew. He was leaving this morning for Africa and Waylon had gone down for a nap. He said he wanted to go say bye to Waylon and when he went in the room he woke him up, I am pretty sure on purpose... So Waylon got to miss his nap and hug on Uncle Matthew for a few minutes before he left... So Sweet... Matthew is such a great Uncle and is going to be a great Dad one day..

Matthew to Africa

I am asking all of you all to pray for my baby brother Matthew. He is leaving on June 1st to travel to South Africa for 7 weeks. He will be working with a church plant family who lives along the Congo boarder among the Kaonde tribe of North West Zambia. The town is called Mumena, in case you have heard of it....Matthew will be building wells for the people there to have clean drinking water and he will be telling everyone about God. Matthew is not new to being a missionary he was in Brazil for 2 years and enjoyed his time there very much. He is very excited about going to Africa and getting to know a new culture and spread God's love. I spent all weekend making walmart trips and helping him pack. It was like he was going off to a very long summer church camp. He is having to take a preventative medication for Malaria and had to get several shots to prevent many other disease. He had to get a mosquito net to sleep under every night they say the bugs are bad. He is going to be living in a one room hut with no running water and very limited space. He will be eating the local food consisting of mush and grasshoppers. He will have very limited if any access to phone and Internet. I can not wait to hear about all of his adventures... I am so very proud of him and the Man of God that he is. Please pray for him on this great adventure. I will post any information that I receive from him.
He and Waylon have a very special bond I don't know who is going to miss who most for these next 7 weeks. The family that he will be working with does have a blog it is www.mumenamissions.org feel free to check it out to see what all is going on there and the people that he will be working with. We love you,Matthew! God Bless!

More Memorial Day Pics

Here are a few more pics

Waylon's First Memorial Day Weekend!

We had a great Memorial Day weekend. Friday night Nathan and Waylon took me on a date to eat dinner at a great Latin Restaurant in down town San Antonio. It was so nice to have both of my handsome men out on a date. Nathan used to be the one that got all the looks from the girls now Waylon has taken over. He is quite the attention grabber. Saturday Nathan let me sleep in and had breakfast tacos for me when I got up ( one of my favorite things). We hung out most of the day at home then went to Nathans uncles house for a house warming party. It was nice to get to show Waylon off again. Sunday we stayed at home most of the day. It was raining here on and off all day but Nathan could not wait to get Waylon's new water toy up, so even in the cool drizzly weather Nathan got Waylon in his water matt and Nathan grilled out. We stayed up late and watched a movie and got to sleep in again on Monday. Nathan's family all came over on Monday to celebrate Memorial day we played outside and Nathan grilled out. My Uncle Jeff and Aunt Cindy came by the house on their way home to Houston to see Waylon for the first time. It was so great to see them and get to catch up a little. Jeff really knew how to make Waylon laugh... It was nice to get to share Waylon's first memorial day with friends and family. We had a great time getting to celebrate Memorial Day with Waylon. I am hoping to start some traditions with Waylon like I had when I was a child. We always went to decorate graves of our family members on this day and although I loved getting to see my cousins I hated having to visit graves. Now that I am older I miss that tradition. Although, I don't want anyone else to die I want Waylon to get to experience going to loved ones graves and pay respect to them. Maybe next year we will make it back to Oklahoma to decorate graves with our grandparents but one tradition for sure is that we will always be with family and friends, grill out and play in the water....
The pictures are of the most beautiful sunsets we get to see out our back deck every night. A beautiful rainbow God gave us on Memorial day and Waylon getting to play in his new water matt I got him... It will be more fun for him the older he gets but we still had fun playing in the water with him and it really wore him out....

Annual Sports Banquet 8 years later

Every year Nathan's school athletic department will have a sports banquet to honor all of the sports, athletes and coaches that have participated in sports for the school that year. Nathan has been a coach for 8 years and this was our 8th year to go to a sports banquet together. Our first year we were in Uvalde and had just started dating and I felt like I barely knew Nathan but I was already so in love with him. He came to pick me up at my parents house wearing a nice suite and I was dressed up. We were both so nervous because this was the first time we would have really stepped out as a couple. Of course my mom had the camera ready and had to take pictures of us jr. high kids going on our first date ( that is what it felt like) I am so thankful I still have that picture up in my house and honestly can not believe it has been 8 years. After the 1st sports banquet together we went to get ice cream at Dairy Queen and have continued that tradition every year. Where we are now they have a sports picnic instead of a banquet which is so much nicer and relaxed. Last year we went and had just found out a few months earlier that we were expecting. There were so many new babies there and I was praying so hard that God would allow us to have a baby at next years sports picnic. Sure enough God gave us what we asked. It was so fun getting to go this year and show Waylon off. Everyone was very impressed with his soccer t-shirt and shoes, which makes me so proud. He did such a great job watching all the kids and sitting through every coaches speech. Nathan gave a great speech saying something very special about each one of his awarded players. He also thanked me for being a supportive wife during this tough soccer season ( Waylon and I did not miss a game). It made me cry which I hate doing esp in public but it was so very special for him to annoucne his appreciation for me in front of hundreds of people. Waylon and I are so proud of him and honored to be his family. Nathan is still just as handsome as he was on that first date and I have grown more and more in love with him every year. He is a wonderful coach and a huge influence of the kids lives that he gets to impact. I am so lucky to be with this man. Afterward we went to DQ to get ice cream (raspberry truffle blizzard will change your life) and talked about how much fun next year will be when we are having to chase Waylon around the park and wipe ice cream off his face afterward...
The picture if from the very first sports banquet. Really wish I had one from every year and esp this year but we were running late...

Best Mothers Day Ever

Yes, this is my first Mothers day but it is one for the record books. My husband did an amazing job of making this day so very special for me. We took our Mothers and my brother to the Frio river to celebrate. We got there early Friday afternoon and got to stay through Sunday. We played in the river, grilled out and ate smores by the open outdoor fire. The weather was great and the atmosphere was so beautiful. Waylon did so wonderful all weekend, playing in the water and taking naps on the river. I could not have asked for a better weekend. It was so amazing to get to be surrounded buy the people who are such great mothers to me and who have helped me be the mother I am today. I am so thankful to have a husband that appreciates me and would go out of his way to make things so special for me. He had so many gifts for me from Waylon but my favorites were Waylon's hand and foot prints on a canvas and pictures of Waylon and I in a barn wood frame. Matthew made me the most awesome sign for Waylons room I will post picks later, MeeMee got me two picture frames for our family and Granna got me a sweet monkey onsei and soccer pasi holder for Waylon. I was showered with love by everyone and I felt so honored. I am so thankful to God for all of the blessing and people in my life and most of all for being able to celebrate this day. Waylon is the most perfect, beautiful and sweet baby in the world and I am so lucky to get to be his momma.

More Pictures of this Handsome 4 Month Old

Sorry, I dont know why these did not get on that last post....enjoy!

More Pictures of this Handsome 4 Month Old

Here are a few more pictures that I could not resist. He is just so fun to take pictures of. It is getting kinda hard to get him to keep his hands out of his mouth and to give me a good smile. When the camera comes out he is way more into looking at it than smiling at me!

Robert Waylon is 4 Months!

WOW! I feel like I say this every monthly post but I can not believe he is 4 months old already...He actually turned 4 months old last week but I wanted to get his stats from the doc before I posted. He weighs 12.9lb (10%) and is 241/2(50%) in long. He is just a little guy but the doctor was amazed with how strong he is. He is still rolling over front to back and grabbing for everything to put in his mouth. He loves to kick at any and everything, he is definitely going to be a soccer player. I am thinking he is starting to get some teeth because everything is going in this mouth and he is a drool machine. Of course he is still the most wonderful, beautiful and sweet baby in the world. He is starting to giggle and make all kinds of funny noises. He has started this growling that is so funny, I will have to post a video of it later. He still sleeps through the night, he goes to bed about 8pm and is up ready to eat by 6:30-7am. We love it when he wakes up with those sleepy eyes and has a sleepy grin. All he is wanting to do is eat but he gives me and dad a grin because he knows how much we love it. He is such a calm baby, still only getting upset if he is hungry or really tired. He is starting to fight sleep just a bit and will sometimes need to be rocked to fall asleep. He is doing wonderful with the nanny, she loves him and always has some piece of advice for me that is helpful. He sleeps for 2 hours for her in the morning in the bed and will take kitty cat naps for me in the afternoon in my arms, I still cant give up holding him while he sleeps. He is still only eating breast milk and I will probably not start cereal till he is 5-6 months. He is such a trooper baby. I take him shopping, to games and out to eat and he does just fine. He is very cool and calm. I asked the doc if she thought he was getting enough to eat and she said as long as he is not fussy he is fine. I just think he has the personality like his dad that if you only give him a little he is fine with that and will not complain about wanting more. So much of me wants him to be a fighter like me and not settle for anything less than best but hopefully he will have the best of both...He loves his Dad and loves to talk to him. Nathan can still really get him talking. He also loves his momma, it is funny to see how he can now pick us out of a crowd. He is starting to really notice Izzy (our dog) and follow her around the room with his eyes. He loves his baths but is not loving getting dressed after them, I think he would rather be naked. I still call him my monkey baby, he kinda looks like a little monkey. I try to buy everything I see with a monkey on it for him. We have a monkey swim suite, matching shirt and flip flops....We are still so much in love with the little cowboy. He is a true gift from God and has made our lives so much better, as if that were possible. I am going to have the best time in the world getting to be this little monkey baby's momma for my first Mothers day.
God Bless You All!

Cinco de Mayo Tournament 2009

Nathan played in the Cinco de Mayo Tournament again this year. It was so much fun to have a little man to get to take to the field to watch his Dad play. We got Waylon dressed in his best soccer gear to show him off to all of Nathan's fellow players. Nathan did an amazing job again this year. It is so wild how he can go a year with out playing with these guys and come out and be the best player on the field, and no I am not bias.... The team played 5 games in 24 hours, they won all of them and made it to the final game. The final game was very close but they were very worn out so they took 2nd place with pride. It was very hot, in the upper 90s all weekend, I got a bad sunburn and Waylon stayed cool in the car with MeeMee. We are so thankful to have Mee Mee there to take care of Waylon. One of Nathan's teammates told her she was not watching the game and she said she has been able to watch 30 years of soccer now she is just enjoying getting to watch Waylon. We stayed the night at her house while she and Granddaddy watched Waylon so we could go to a players party. They said they were a little disappointed he did not wake up after we left to play with them....
I am so thankful to have a husband that is still in such great shape to go out and be so successful in a big soccer tournament. Waylon was very impressed with his Dad as well. We are glad that Dad only got a yellow card and not a Red card... he is improving....We are and will always be his biggest fans! Hopefully Nathan will still be playing in 18 years and I can cheer both my boys on!
