| — Nastoya to Elphaba, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West | ||
Princess Nastoya was the nominal leader of the Scrow, one of the nomadic tribes of The Vinkus. Originally a sentient Elephant, she availed herself of a witch's charm for the ability to easily transfigure herself to human form.
In the Novels[]
While Nastoya used to be able to easily shift between Elephant and human form, she continuously finds it increasingly more difficult, which leads her to believe she is dying. For giving her protection and a home, she agrees to become the leader of the Scrow. Since then, Nastoya has been unsuccessfully trying to unite the three major tribes of the Vinkus against the Wizard: The Scrow, Yunamata and Arjiki.
In Son of a Witch, she explains to Liir that when Elphaba was besieged at Kiamo Ko by the Wizard's Gale Forces, and sent out her crows to ask for Nastoya's help, the crows were attacked and devoured by nocturnal rocs, which Nastoya only learned of later. Liir and Candle later manage to break the spell on her, returning her to an Elephant before she dies.
In Out of Oz it is revealed that it was Mombey who placed the spell on her.
