Petroglyphs

Last Thursday Mike and I went on a hike to see Petroglyphs with Aunt Kaye, Uncle Jerry, Emily and Paul, Dan and Trudy and their family. They are at the McConkie Ranch partway up Dry Fork Canyon. It was a very interesting hike and we had a fun time trying to guess what the people meant by their drawings.

Here is the Vernal gang

We had to look closely to find some of these.
There were lots of circular drawings.

Hiking in the Uintahs

I went hiking with my Dad in the Uintahs on Wednesday. He needed to go up and hide some geocaches for an activity he would be doing for HIHA (Helamans Institute of High Adventure) with the 15-19 yr olds in his Stake. We hiked around to 5 lakes to hide buckets with treats and the latitute/longitude to get to their next spot.

Shallow Lake Most of this lake is covered in lily pads because it is so shallow

Beth Lake

I love the meadow going up the hillside across the lake.

Haystack Lake

Haystack lake is where my family comes most often.

This is our family rock close to Haystack Lake and we always take a family pic on it.

Azure LakeThis is quite the rock field you have to climb over to get to Azure and Rock Lake!

Lightning!

I caught this pic of lightning during the crazy rainstorm (yes a real rainstorm and yes it's real lightning) in Utah Valley last saturday (the 26th). Mike and I were on our way up to the White's 24th of July party. Thought it was pretty cool! Click on the image to see the details!

Steinaker

Last saturday we went to Steinaker with Amy, Ryan & some of their friends. They brought their wave runners and we had a great time. It's been a while since I've been wave running and Mike had never done it before so it was fun!

This is for you Mike :)

"Farmer tan on my neck and arms
A farmer tan secret of my charms,
Every girl wants a man with a farmer tan!"

(Sing to the tune of "Farmer Tan" by Voice Male)

This boat behind Mike is called a Hobie Cat. Mike grew up by the ocean and loves sailing and to be on water (now he just needs to teach his wife how to swim...better...hey I can doggy paddle pretty good :) ) He would love to have a hobie cat again, someday!
Here is Mike on a Trimaran that he and his Grandad built when he was younger.

We took a 18 foot Hobie Cat (like in the pic above) and built the center hull to make it into a Trimaran. It was called the Solar Flare because we wanted to make a boat that wouldn't put off any polution. The solar panel charged a 12 volt battery which powered a small electric motor, to get around when there was no wind.

Mike sailing with his sister Amy

Check out Mike's hair and his sweet boat :)

Last summer when we went out to New Jersey he took us
(my parents, Leslie, Steven and I) sailing.
Here's my hottie cruisin' through the water! :)

This was my first time sailing and it was pretty cool

RODEO!

Mike and I went to the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo here in Vernal last Friday. We went with Amy and some of her friends. It was my first time going to a rodeo and it was quite entertaining...just glad I wasn't the one on the horses! (You should be able to click on the collage pic and make it bigger)

These next pics are 5-6 year olds riding sheep till they fall off. The little girl in pink on the far right (in the group shot) stayed on hers the longest and won. The announcer called this the only legal way of child abuse. Those poor kids! But it looked like most of them had fun.

Recognize this?

For those of you who remember the good old days of going to Aunt Kaye & Uncle Jerry's for the best Thanksgiving's ever, I thought you might like these pics. I remember that every year as we were driving up Dry Fork Canyon we would look for this flag painted on the rock. As soon as we found it we knew we were close to their house, after a loooong drive. :) Just thought it might bring back memories. Did any of your families look for that?

Other memories...

* Log house

* Families assigned to every room in the house (bed, couch, floor...), the shop, a tent, suburban, Aunt Linda's house, etc...for sleeping arrangments

* Thanksgiving dinner

* Trudging through snow on a Christmas tree hunt

* Tons of leftover turkey sandwiches for lunch on Christmas tree hunt day

* Blazing hot fire in basement

* The loft

* The toy guns, old spice containers for play kitchen area, etc...

* The outhouse

* More ice cream and pie than you could imagine

These are a few of the memories I have and I'm sure you can all think of a lot more memories as well. :)
