Are you prepared?

It's great when you save 72% on your grocery bill!  Smiths has had some great 10 for $10 deals going on...and some of them give you another $3.00 off!  Check out your ad (or online)...sale ends tomorrow (I meant to post this earlier this week) unless they keep it going
for the next week
:)

and

How prepared are you?  Do you have enough food storage???
Can you live off the food you have for a week? for a month?

Mike and I have decided to live off our food storage for the
month of March!!!

While this isn't an "emergency situation" it's good preparation and will give us (you!) a good idea of how prepared we (you!) are.
Want to join our challenge!?!
even if it's only for a week or two! let us know in the comments!
( and I know this is all of the sudden and you might not feel prepared but that's the point :) )

We are cheating slightly...tomorrow, March 1st, is our last day to go grocery shopping.  And NO that does not mean we are going out and splurging tons of money on food.  We are picking up a few things (less than $40 for sure) and then we are going to live off what we have!  Yes, that means powdered milk & homemade bread!  :)

Quite often "food storage" is associated with "emergencies" but it also comes in handy when you don't have work & need to budget tighter & save money!!!  We've been able to build up a decent food storage (love case lot sales & other grocery sales!) of food we like to eat and use often, so hopefully we'll be able to make it work this month!

Also I sat down and planned dinners for the month of March and I basically had everything I need
(except for those few things which I am grabbing tomorrow)
So you might think we are a bit crazy, but let us know if you are in!

Dad, can't you see I am busy reading
She still likes hanging upside down...
and reading at the same time :)

Saturday

Good morning!
Yay for Dollar store (stackable) baskets!  Madi loves to pull things out of something or off the shelves :)
Every day (except Sunday) feels like a saturday since I (obviously) am not working and Mike is not working right now.
Today was a busy day and we got quite a bit accomplished
:)

The original zippers on Mike's snow gators fell apart so he picked up some new ones to sew on!
The new zippers were too long so....

...he pulled out his tools and shortened them.  I didn't even know it was possible to shorten them :)

Isn't this great!?...I thought I would be the one sewing them on...but nope, he took care of it :)

TaDaa!  New zippers on old gators!

I needed to leave the room for a minute so I put Madi in her walker (so she wouldn't get into something she shouldn't). She is just a little too short & can only move backwards in this thing...this is where I found her when I came back :)
Chillin' under the table, haha!

She doesn't hang out in this often since she can only move backwards and gets bored rather quickly.  She'd rather be out moving around or pushing buckets :)

SNOW!

It was a nice day so we spent some time playing in the snow!
Yes she is standing up.  Yes we have A LOT of snow!
It likes to stick around.

Mike made her an igloo :)

She really wasn't sure what to think about it.  Plus it was bright outside and she had a hard time looking up.

Then Mike helped her make her first snow angel...and once again she was probably wondering what in the world was going on.

She wasn't too happy about her first snow angel...

So we decided to build a snowman.  She sat in the snow and whimpered while Mike and I threw Mr. Snowman together in less than 3 minutes!  Hmmm...she still wasn't having to much fun.  So we called it good and went back inside our warm house.  Probably didn't help that it was close to her nap time...she crashed a little bit later.  Love the sky in this pic!

And since we had the sewing machine out I decided to make these ricebag numbers found HERE.  I have lots of fabric scraps leftover from making skirts & other projects, so I figured why not!?  I was originally looking for Quiet Book ideas to make for Church...which I found some cute & easy ones (I will try to post soon!)
The picture on the left is after I sewed them all.  Then you snip around the edges and wash them to give them the rag style look...then fill with rice.

Tractor ride in snow!

Oh we love this girl!  Can't get enough of her!
I bet this pic put a smile on your face!

Today brought 7 more inches of snow and it's still coming!

We took a quick little venture outside.
Thanks for the hat Aunt Leslie!
Madi went for a short tractor ride to plow some snow.
I'm so sad this pic is blurry!

My two favorites!

Towel drawer

Madi discovered the drawer with towels and dishcloths!

She had a great time emptying out the whole drawer!

She would fling & whip them around...
kept her entertained for a good 20 minutes or so!
Here is a cute video of her flinging them

Madi likes playing under the table & with the straps on her chair

This is how her hair looks on days we don't do it
(but it was done the day before)
Outta control, but oh so cute!

Hey mom, come on under!

I can touch the top!
Aren't these levis cute!?
My neighbor upstairs has been getting rid of her baby clothes...gotta love hand-me-downs!!!

Blogging & snow

Today is snowed all day.
Mike helped one of our ham radio friends wire his new home most of the day.
I played with Madi and blogged off and on all day.
It was time to get caught up.
I think there are around 9 new posts below this one!
You'll even need to click on "older posts" at the bottom of the page to see the others!
I am also working on getting our 2010 blog posts into a book to print!  I can't wait until it is done!!!
And as I blog 2011 I am slurping it over to "blurb" (the book program we are using)
as I go so I can just print it at the end of the year.
According to Mike's red snow meter we got 6 inches of snow!

Kim & Jason

On Wednesday we went to Kim (my cousin) & Jason's wedding.

Aunt Lugene, Kim & Jason

Kim, Jason and Grandma Redmond

Cute Madi

My parents have a big, fun project going on!  Changing things up in the kitchen and dining room!
Mike was able to help a bit and hopefully we'll get out there again soon to help some more!

Hair style

Mike had fun giving Madi some crazy hairdo's!

Her hair is so long on top!

I might need to trim it soon, I always have to pull it up so it doesn't get in her eyes!

So you know the post about her tearing a napkin apart a few days ago...well one morning she grabbed a kleenex off a table next to her and tore it to pieces while I slept!  Haha

Valentines

I got this crazy idea to make a few Valentines with Madi's thumbprints in a heart shape!

She had a pink thumb for most of the day...don't worry the ink is non-toxic :)

Cute thumbprints!
We made a few for grandparents and cousins and of course I wanted one!

Hi Buck!  Will you give me a ride?

Valentine from Nana & Grandpa Janowicz

This might look like a normal, homemade brownie...but it has a twist!
We mixed the brownies up at Heidi's place and then took them to Beth's to cook.
Heidi pulled out her imitation vanilla which was clear and explained that she had clear vanilla for the
divinity she made at Christmas.  So we put the clear vanilla in.  Mike and I both tasted the brownie batter and thought it tasted a bit different...we mentioned this to Heidi as well.  She said it shouldn't taste different just because it was clear.  So we just went on with life :)  We took the brownies to Beths and started cooking them.  Heidi called me while they were in the oven and said she ruined our brownies!  I asked her how and she said that she had pulled her almond extract out and that's what we put in the brownies!  It is in a similar bottle that her vanilla is in!  Too funny!  We were laughing pretty good and now anxiously awaiting for the brownies to finish baking so we could taste them!  They were actually still really yummy!  They just had an almond flavor taste!
