Corn Corn Corn!

...This is how my family does corn...
at night, when it's cooler
and
with a bigscreen, for entertainment
corn corn corn
cutting the corn off the cob
the baggers
tasting the corn...yep it's good!
we did 68 bags of corn that night
(like a month ago)
a couple nights ago Mike and I bagged some
corn we received from our landlord
I blanched it and put it in the sink to cool down
mike cut the corn off the cob
he was the champion cutter when we did it with my family

then I bagged it
we got 16 bags!
I looooooove real* corn
*real: fresh homegrown corn from a garden
not fake* corn
*fake: corn in a can/bag from the store
(although I will eat that, but it's not nearly as good as real* corn!)

Lightning!

We had quite the lightning show when last nights
thunderstorm rolled through.
I used the "burst mode" on my camera where it will shoot continuously as the button is held.
Throughout a few hundred pics I caught these!

Hummingbirds!

Recently I have noticed hummingbirds flying around outside my kitchen window, so I decided to get a hummingbird feeder!
They've been coming by for a couple days now!
I put my camera on the "burst" mode so it will shoot continuously as I hold the button down. Otherwise it would be really hard to get a good shot because they're so fast.

They are fascinating birds!

WOOD!

It's that time of year again!
Time to gather firewood!
We went with Mark & Leah, some of Leah's family and Kaye & Jerry.
We loaded the back of Big Blue....

Jerry's trailer...

and Mark's trailer...
which held tons!

Leah's Dad came up a few times before us and cut down a ton of firewood for us. So we mostly just had to load it. I think we took about 7 1/2 cords of the mountain.
A cord is 4 feet high by 4 feet deep by 8 feet long.

There were lots of wild strawberries you could eat!
Tiny but tasty!

There are lots of steep hills, narrow roads and steep cliffs
Mom, I don't think you would have liked the ride :)
There had been a fire in this area a
while back and they
finally opened
it up temporarily for people to gather wood. Now we will stay nice and toasty this winter!

Hailstorms!

Yesterday and today hailstorms rolled through in the afternoon.
Dark clouds would hang out for a few hours with thunder rumbling through them, then...
BLAM!
(don't you love that word Heidi?!?)

it came down good and started flooding the garage...not too bad though

Hunters

We are hunters!
Mike and I decided to take the Hunter Education class and we passed! It consisted of 12 hours of class, a shooting test and a 50 question written test. I shot 18/30 and you had to get 15/30 to pass. I did good in the prone position, laying down, shooting at the squirrel. And I did alright kneeling and shooting at the rabbit. But I struggled with standing...those are all the stray holes on the rabbit. Part of the reason was the gun was too heavy, but it sure had a sweet scope on it!
Thanks for letting me borrow it Uncle Jerry!
Now I don't plan on hunting anytime in the near future but Mike might. I just took the class to learn gun safety and other good info. :) I only like to shoot fake targets, water bottles, etc. Nothing living.

which I'm sure some of you will remember
but this time we got a beautiful rainbow
