Facshing

This past Sunday we went to the town of Lutzerath, about a 10 min. drive from us, where we went to their Facshing parade. I am not quite sure of all the exact details, but basically it is their equivalent to our Mardi Gras except instead of throwing beads they give out shots of liquor to the adults and throw candy (lots and lots of candy) to the children. They say that it officially starts on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour, but kicks into high gear 6 days before Ash Wednesday and that is when the craziness begins. Pretty much everything closes down and the whole town just drinks and parties and all kinds of stuff that I am sure that I don't even want to know about =) Anyways, here are some pictures of the parade.

This is what they have tagging along behind them!

Happy 3rd Birthday Matthew!!

Yesterday was Matthew's 3rd birthday! I have to say that the past 3 years have just flown by! I am sure that I will be saying that everyday now for the rest of life and I really can't believe it!

It all started off with cupcakes at school which I am sure that the teachers loved me for! The desserts in Germany aren't as sweet as those in the states and Matthew wanted butter cake with chocolate frosting for his school friends so I am sure that they were bouncing off the walls! They also made him the yellow crown with his name on it and they gave him a little doggie purse type thing that they play games with. They do a whole big celebration singing some german songs and playing games. I didn't actually get to see all of this, but I was there when another little boy had his b'day and I am assuming that they do the same for all the kids. For the b'day candle they use what looks like a rocket. You light it and it gives off about as much as a sparkler. Very cool! We then had a little party for him with our friends. We have been very blessed to have met such wonderful people since we have been here and they just showered Matthew with all kinds of gifts yesterday! I think that he got more toys for his birthday then he did for Christmas!

A great big thank you to everybody who made his day so special! A HUGE thank you to GG who sent us all of the "Cars" party decorations. The box got here just hours before the party with all of our plates, napkins, balloons, and everything else that we needed. I think (know) that Matthew had a great day and I wish nothing more for him than that he have many, many more wonderful years to follow!
