Bye bye baby, hello toddler!
So I finally took Zachary in to get his first haircut. I kept putting it off because well, I wanted to avoid the hysteria that usually comes along with a haircut and also because it just looked so darn cute with his one little curl in the back. So, I bit bullet and took him in yesterday and I have to say that he was a little angel. It went so smoothly! I was so surprised!! Now he looks like a little man.

The "F" Word
All year we have been looking forward to the big fireworks display that goes on in Cochem. It is a fireworks war between the Mosel river and the castle. I am not sure of the exact historical reference, but it is a beautiful sight! It has to do with the representation of the French fighting with the Germans over the territory and then the French lighting the castle on fire, so at the end of the fireworks display the castle is lit up in red to symbolize the burning. This may all sound familiar since we went last year too, but Allan got to go this year so it was all the more better! Any who, Matthew is very sensitive to loud sounds so we have been avoiding all other fireworks displays to save up for this one night. We told all of our friends not to mention the "F" word b/c Matthew starts to freak out since he still remembers it from last year! We did come a little more prepared this year though, and Allan had some head phones for the kids from when he is shooting so it blocked a lot of the noise. Matthew got tense the first few go 'rounds, but then loved it and kept saying how cool it was. Zachary on the other hand buried his head in Allan as I think that all the bright lights made him a little nervous! It was great though and well worth it and I can't wait to go again next year!!

Earthquake?
So, I was in bed sleeping early this morning at approximately 5am when I awoke with a rumbling in the house. I first thought that it was Matthew stomping up the stairs as usual, but there was no Matthew. I could hear the wine glasses banging against each other and I thought that my stomach was going to jump out my throat. I tried to nudge Allan to wake him up, but to those of you that know him will not be surprised when I tell you that he didn't even budge! The kids didn't even wake up. Could I have been on that roller coaster all by myself? Was I imagining things?? I woke up Allan asking him if he felt that and he responded as if I was crazy. I started to think that I was. He got up and looked around, inspected the wine glasses that I swore I heard knocking and then climbed back into bed. I kept telling him that it wasn't a dream and he said well maybe it was an earthquake since we live around old volcanoes he said that it was a definite possibility. I thought surely not. Could I have slept through the greater part of an earthquake and only woke up in the last seconds? My kids can usually sleep through anything, but earthquakes? Come on!
Well when Allan woke up he did a little research on earthquakes, but didn't really find anything that pertained to our area. When arriving to work though, everyone was talking about it. We had a 4.0 earthquake last night!! I can't believe it. I can't believe that everyone slept through it but me! It seemed like it only lasted a second, but my stomach is still in knots hours later. It is one of Mother Nature's sides that I never thought I would live to see! Apparently it happens quite often around here, sometimes two times a year. Why nobody ever told me I'll never know. It should be in the welcome packets you get when you first arrive, like a warning label!

My little boy isn't so little anymore...
he has now graduated to a big boy bed! no more crib =( it makes me a little sad, but it was going to happen eventually. i can't keep him in his crib forever i guess. he has been climbing out for about a week now and when it was time for a nap or for bed he would climb into matthew's bed. i think that he liked the idea of a big boy bed. so we took him to the furniture store and let him pick out his very own bed. so far, so good. allan has been putting him to bed every night b/c i have class this week, so it was a perfect time. allan gets to the task of training zachary to sleep in his new bed =) here are some pictures of my big boy!!
these were taken after we got his bed together. it was still in the living room, but he knew that it was his!

these were taken at bed time. after we read his story he grabbed his blanket and monkey and started walking out the door. i guess he didn't realize that he actually had to spend the night in his new bed =)
