I've thought about this post for awhile. Honestly since Emmy was about eleven months. Little did I know at the time that we'd make it to fifteen plus months. When Emmy was first born I made small goals with myself when it came to breastfeeding. First it was let's make it to six to eight weeks, until maternity leave is up. Well we made it to that goal and it was going really well. Then it was let's make it to six months. Six months flew by, then...okay nine months. Still going well, shoot let's go 1 year. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd make it this far. I am so incredibly proud of Emmy and myself for making it this far. It was hard but we excelled!
Our chair
On the 16th was our last feeding, I'm actually glad I didn't know it was going to be the last feeding. I feed Emmy in the morning before work, like usual, she was a bit more aggressive. She's teething a lot these days, dang molars, and is fighting allergies so breathing out of her nose is difficult. That night before bed, we tried again to feed and she was just biting like crazy. Not meaning to, I know she was having a hard time. So we gave up and I gave her a sippy of milk and she was content with that. I saw a light and thought maybe this is it. So the next morning, I tried one last time and got the same results and gave her a sippy. She was sad but I knew it was time and my chance to see if we could wean.
Last frozen breast milk
I've stuck to my guns and it's been about a week. I'll admit I'm a little sad but super excited. Like I said before if I knew it'd be my last feeding I probably would have let her nurse for hours and most likely would have sobbed and sobbed. It's a end of a chapter, I have mixed emotions. It's been so long since my body has been my own. October of 2010 to be exact. Why so long? Well with all the medication I was on for the IVF, etc I've had to treat my body with lots of love. It's crazy to think now I can have a glass of wine and not worry about what it may or may not do...I can enjoy it now. Not that I'm a crazy lush but now I can treat my body the way I want to and not think about okay did I eat enough calories to make milk, can I work out just a little longer and tougher and not worrying about my chest. Hell I can eat sushi...in California. Ohio sushi just doesn't sound right. Woo!!
This picture will always be special to me, she's holding her Lambie while drinking some Momma Juice. I'm so grateful for this experience, it's kinda funny...Emmy still only wants me in the morning...to feed her yogurt and toast. =)
On to the next adventure! XO
