How much should I budget to get started on Aptible?
Most teams getting started spend $200–$500/month on resources. Add a Production plan ($499/month) when you’re ready for a dedicated stack, and total costs typically land in the $750–$1,000/month range.We also offer startup program credits if you’re early-stage. For the most accurate estimate based on your specific setup, use the in-app cost estimator.
Do I need a credit card to start my free trial?
No. Sign up with a valid company email to start a 30-day free trial. Personal and disposable email addresses are not eligible. Existing customers are also not eligible. If you think you qualify but were flagged as ineligible, contact our sales team.
Who is eligible for the Startup Program, and what happens when it ends?
New Aptible customers with fewer than 20 engineers who agree to co-marketing activities with Aptible (logo placement, case study, etc.). Not sure if you qualify? Apply anyway. We may be able to offer other discounts.
When your credits run out, we’ll work with you on custom pricing based on your actual spend level. Most customers at that stage qualify for volume discounts or a custom agreement. If you’re above the 20-engineer threshold or otherwise don’t qualify, contact us. Other discount programs may be available.
How does billing work?
Resources are billed by the hour as used: containers, managed databases, endpoints, backups, and storage, all prorated to actual usage. Billing starts when a resource is provisioned, not when it receives traffic. An idle container still incurs charges. Monthly invoices include a full line-item breakdown (available as a CSV export), and the dashboard shows per-app and per-environment estimates. For internal cost attribution by team, separate environments within stacks provide cost isolation.
Which plan is right for me?
If you’re handling PHI or running production traffic, you need the Production plan. The $499/month base fee covers the dedicated, isolated stack required for HIPAA workloads. The Development plan ($0 base) works for staging, prototypes, and non-production environments. If you’re not sure, start with the free trial and talk to an engineer.
Are volume discounts or contracts available?
Yes. Volume contracts work like a credit allowance: commit to a monthly spend, get credits allocated, and overages are billed at standard rates. Annual commitments include additional discounts. Unused credits from upfront contracts can roll into the following term. Contact us to discuss options.
How does Aptible pricing compare to running on AWS?
Aptible costs more than raw AWS for the same compute. The difference covers managed infrastructure, HIPAA compliance, automated backups, managed databases, and operational work you’d otherwise staff for. For most early-stage teams, the premium is lower than the cost of a platform engineer.
What is self-hosted pricing?
Self-hosted Aptible runs on your own AWS account. You pay Aptible platform fees per resource and AWS infrastructure costs directly, meaning you can apply existing AWS credits or reserved instance pricing. The minimum commitment is higher than managed hosting. Contact us for details.
