Swimming Lessons

We started Elijah in "swimming lessons".  We thought he would have so much fun because he loves bath time...

Week 1:
Elijah was a very miserable little dude.  He cried for most of the 30 minute lesson and was shivering for most of it because we didn't bring a t-shirt to wear during the lesson.  That was definitely a rookie mistake.

He was okay with sitting on the ledge...until we put him in the large pool.
Day 1 complete.  Glad to be done!  He was actually very happy after the lesson.
Week 2:
This time Elijah cried for about 1/2 the lesson which was an improvement.  He was definitely still very uncomfortable in the water.  The rest of the babies "floated" but Elijah was so tense, his feet went straight down.  Still not digging it.
"Why are you making me do this?"

Feet straight down.  He's supposed to be kicking now.
Week 3:
Elijah made a HUGE improvement from the previous weeks.  He smiled multiple times and learned to kick his feet.  He had a great time in the big pool today!
So he didn't nap the best at daycare today and was really tired.  When he was on his back, he closed his eyes like he was sleeping (or it could have been the water).
This was pretty cool, he loved to kick in it.

Elijah had a big cheer section today, probably the reason why he enjoyed it so much.

Finger Foods

We've been trying to work on finger foods with Elijah.  We thought he would be great at this for two reasons:
1. He loves to eat.
2. He puts everything in his mouth.
Turns out, he's not very good at it.

Please note the Cheerio on his chin.

Disgusted at the taste of a Cheerio.
 Willing to keep trying.
These pictures are from today.  It looks like we need to keep practicing!

Elijah's Afro

We've done this before.  We should have been doing these pictures every month.  What does Elijah look like with Dave's hair?

Crawler

We spent the later part of the evening crawling as a family.  Elijah would either be in the middle of the train or at the end.  Elijah got a kick out of it and was laughing, it was really cute.  Here's a video of one of the sessions, wish there was a video behind me to get his big smile and laughs.

Still Have a Future Catcher

Even at 9 months, I still think we have a future catcher.  How is his form?

Dreams Can Come True

First off, please listen to this song while reading the rest of the blog entry, it will only help in understanding where I was at.
I've always wanted to be a good left handed batter.  Problem is that I'm right handed and my grandpa never pushed me to bat left handed like Joe Mauer's grandpa.
Joe Mauer and his patented QuickSwing
I've never had the guts to hit left handed in a game...until June 1, 2012.  Our softball team played the worst team in the league so I thought it would be a good time to hit left handed in a game.

1st pitch: Pitch...swing...lazy foul ball
2nd pitch: Pitch...strike...struck out looking

The other team wasn't as bad as initially thought so felt the pressure of hitting right handed for the rest of the game.  Well, dreams can come true but too bad I struck out looking.  Maybe Elijah can live out my dream!

FYI - I'm a classy enough Co-Ed D League softball player to not switch to batting left handed in the middle of a game when we're up a lot of runs...that's why I've never batted left handed before.

Old School

Dave went for a run outside tonight.  I came downstairs when he got back and this is what I saw:
So if you saw someone carrying a CD player while running tonight, that was my husband.  FYI - we have an iPod that he could have taken.

And in case you were wondering, mfg date: 2000.

9 Month Stats

Elijah had his 9 month appointment a few weeks ago, here are the stats:

Length = 29 3/4" (90 percentile)
Head Diameter = 17 1/2" (50 percentile)
Weight = 21 lbs 13 oz (65 percentile)
Perhaps getting a bit more mischievous?  He spits out his food when he doesn't like it but doesn't do it at daycare.  (This happened for a couple of weeks but I think we have it under control now.)
Loves the musical table.  We are very tired of listening to the musical table...
Decided to crawl under the jumper to get away from us.

 "Get me out of here!"

Blu-Ray

The lady in front of me at Target bought over 20 Blu-rays.  It's the only things she bought and spent ~$450.  I usually don't stare at the person's items in front of me but all the movies were in a plastic security case that the associate had to remove.  The guy in front of her asked, "Where's the popcorn?".

I know we all have different interests in life but I cannot imagine myself spending that much money on one transaction for movies.  If I was going to spend $450 on a single transaction, it would probably be an iPad (already have one too), airplane ticket or clothes (so I don't have to shop for a while) or an electric car for E-man .  What form of entertainment would you spend $450 on?

Blink of an Eye

This picture made me realize how fast Elijah is growing up and how he's always changing.  For a span of two days he did this pose right before he was about to crawl - like he was building up energy by putting his hands up in the air and it would make him crawl fast.  It was super cute.

It took him a couple of days to realize he doesn't need to raise his hands so high but what a HAM!

Nicknames at 9 Months

E-man loves this elephant toy.  It's really loud and that's why he loves it.  He's pressing the red button so the balls pop out.
Elijah had a lot of nicknames in the first month of his life.  So now at 9 months, what nicknames have come and gone?  What are his new nicknames?  Here are his nicknames at 9 months old:
  • E-man
  • Superhero
  • Supe (short for Superhero)
  • Meatball (mainly my sister)
  • ELB (this one is rare but I still like it)
  • Ball Movement, Ball Movement, Ball Movement! (daycare records how many BMs he has and sometimes all diaper changes are not just "wet" but "BMs")
  • All, All, All! (daycare records how much milk and food he eats and it's usually "All")
We rarely call him Elijah or Eli to his face, only when talking about him to other people.
Lately I've been calling him Supe.
Big smile from E-man.

Snack of the Week: Part XVIII (I Heart Snacks)

Only a couple "Snack of the Week" entries ago, I posted about Haagen-Dazs.  I decided to try Talenti Gelato recently.  Not the same as Haagy (my nickname for it) but still good.  I'm new to this gelato and really enjoy this Mediterranean Mint flavor - yum!

They have quite a few flavors but I prefer to stick to the basics for this type of dessert.  Also, at Lunds/Byerly's it's buy one get one free for a couple of weeks.  That's only $4.99 for two pints - that's a great deal and cheaper than Super T.

Cute Daycare Stories

This kid is so stinking cute.  Here's a few cute stories from daycare the past couple of weeks.  I figure I should probably share these so they are written down and I don't forget them.

Cute Story # 1: Elijah has really started to crawl efficiently the past couple of weeks.  One day at daycare last week, he was all over the place and crawled underneath the group of cribs and they had to move the cribs around to get him out.  The teacher showed me a picture of him underneath the cribs and he had a huge grin.

Cute Story # 2: Elijah is a great napper at home but at daycare he only sleeps 30 - 45 minutes.  Earlier this week they said he kept talking and playing in his crib for at least an hour.  He (playfully) shook his crib so hard that it moved the adjacent cribs and they had to move his crib so he didn't wake up the rest of the babies.

Cute Story # 3: Elijah has always enjoyed when Dave tickles him with his afro hair.  At daycare today, they said he was playing with another baby that's younger so she was just laying on the floor.  The teacher said Elijah kept zooming his head in and out, and both babies were laughing hysterically.  He must have learned a few tricks from his dad.  One problem E-man, you probably were not tickling her with your hair.
