Mich. District

The Michigan District Convention ran from Sunday through Wednesday. A bunch of the family were together Monday evening for the historical "gala" in which former D.P.s and their families were recognized. It was a casual affair with "umpa" music, beer, and brats. Fun for the Schlechts to show off some great-grandchildren although not all could be there, of course. Dave was also elected at this convention to be the new District Secretary.

Kick Back

Allison and Matt invited us over for nothing more than a fire in their back yard and a little time with Nathan who enjoys looking at the firelight and snuggling with whoever.

The Perfect Unwind

Sue and I had the best kind of day Saturday--hosted by Sean and Mary Doran, friends and former wonderful members of Grace who invited us up to their home now near Elk Rabids. Sean and I did a few miles on a bike ride while Mary and Sue hit garage sales. Then they took us in their boat across Elk Lake, Skegemon Lake and via the little Torch River into beautiful Torch Lake. It was breazy but not too choppy. The sun was great and the ride and conversation easy. They took us to dinner and a walk around the Elk Rapids marina and town center. Had some custard and stayed well past dusk. It was a lovely day all around--perfect for body and soul. Thanks, Mary and Sean!

A "Mantic" Evening

Sue and I went to Frankenmuth Sunday evening for what our girls used to call a 'mantic' evening. It was "mantic" because we sat at virtually the very same table at Zehnder's we occupied 34 years ago on the day after our wedding. The weather this weekend was just exactly how it was in 1972--clear, mild, and delicious. Frankenmuth was having the Bararian Festival again as well. We sat awile and listened to the live music by a beer garden and then took a drive. Nice memories, but you wonder how 34 years go by so quickly.

A Picnic with Our Sweethearts

Had a picnic last night on the Saginaw River. Golden minutes with Claire and Emma.
