Wheee! We are Blowin' this Town

In It Comes --- Out It Goes

Gotta get it right. Unfortunately today, after waiting excitedly for a couple of weeks, the counter top arrived. The plumber was here, and this was to the be the PiÃĻce de rÃĐsistance. It was a three-man job just to get the thing into place and a very tight squeeze. Only when the plumber started in was it realized the top had been made for a faucet unit instead of an eight inch spread about which we had been explicit. We discovered also that the mirror was too low to accommodate the backsplash. Anyway, we decided after all the anticipation, effort, and cost, that it has to be done right. A few bucks off the bill doesn't help if every time you look at something you know it isn't as you wanted. We were able to quickly match paint colors however, so we can do that job now in the mean time. Also, the mirror trim can be dressed better. This gave us the opportunity to talk about that too.

Week Two

Nothing spectacular to see, but this week finally got the floor put down. We're "getting used to it." I think we'll come to like it. The frame for the mirror is a disappointment. I think we'll have to dress it up later. The new porcelain furniture is set. We now just have to wait for the counter top. Then we can match paint and go from there.

This is When Winter is Pretty

Grunt Work

We now have three terrible looking bathrooms. I've just torn off all the master bath wallpaper (at least the top layer). It is a tedious and frustrating job, but the seams on that paper have never looked good even though we loved the color and design. It will be hours more of prep work before being able to paint.

Days Six and Seven

Yesterday and today some mixed progress. The guys who came to do the floor weren't able to lay the flooring because the roll was frozen solid. As you can see, they did all the prep work. Steve also did another "mudding" and attached the nickel polished knobs. They look nice.

Day Five

Only a utilitarian photo. Today the electrician finished his work including the light fixtures which will be over the mirror. More work was done to the wall around the shower -- all progress. We probably have another week before things really look good.

Day Four

Nothing exciting to photograph any more, but you can see the shower plumbing is complete, and the basic tub and shower surround is in place. It is good always seeing progress.

Day Three

Very satisfying to see the vanity cabinets placed. Counter top will not be installed until next week. Sue likes the color (I do too). Below is the supervisor making sure that at the very least everything smells good.

Day Two

Progress was good today. The first unit of the cabinet (with the customized laundry shoot) was installed. Steve couldn't go any further until the plumber does his thing. Today, the guys also put in the new linen shelves and drawers which give the first good hint of the "look" of the room to come.

Work Finally Beginning

Steve, a really nice renovator who contracts with L J.'s was here with one of his guys to start work on the main bathroom. They figure to take at least a week on this project. Today, obviously is mostly demolition, but we'll keep a daily log here of the progress. Sue is tickled pink.

Having a Fling

Nathan spent an hour scattering snow everwhere with his new shovel. The point was simply to toss it wherever -- in Grandpa's face, across newly shoveled walks, on himself or Copper--didn't matter.
