Trees in the News

This tree limb is bigger than it looks here.  Came down a week ago, and Jeremy just sawed it up.  Below you can see all the clusters of hickory nuts on the backyard tree.  Never seen so many.  I get a full wizard every day.

A Picture Lost for Forty Years

Craig and I went fishing above Big Pine the summer after we graduated from high school.  The picture was lost a long time ago and only recently was found stuck in an old slide viewer.  We've been friends since 1964.  I wonder what happened to the hats.

Reed Wedding Out West - Elijah and Sam

In the Peace of the Grace of the Gospel through Faith in the Lord

There is a story regarding the testament on this marker.  In august of 2010 Dave was in Ireland on a solo bike adventure for three weeks.  During that time he visited the Ballentemple Cemetery in Durndrum, Co. Tipperary.  This is what I wrote at that time.  "I found the resting place of my great-great-great grandparents, Henry and Elizabeth (Keays) Howard.  I'm now sure of it by the dates, even though the next generation was also a Henry and Elizabeth.  I was deeply moved by the inscription. What touched me most was that the inscription so closely parallels my own confession.  Here is exactly how the stone reads, "Revelation 14:13 - "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord." "Sacred to the memory of Mr. Henry Howard of Dundrum who died September 29, 1812, in the 45th year of his age. Also of Mrs. Elizabeth Howard his wife who died April 27, 1852, in the 81st year of her age haveing survived her husband nearly 40 years and haveing brought up a large family in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.  She died in a good old age and full of years in the peace of the grace of the Gospel thro faith in the Lord Jesus Christ."  I was simply awestruck by the articulation of the Christian faith on that stone.  It made me think perhaps, and quite probably, Elizabeth prayed for her children and grandchildren, many years without her husband, and perhaps prayed also for all those who would follow after her.  And here I was, so many years later, the answer to such a prayer--holding absolutely that same confession.  I can't put into words the thoughts and feelings I had standing among those markers.

So, this is why that same confession is echoed on the marker for Sue's and my resting place.
