Funtimes

Isla spent the day with Gary on Friday, while Sarah finished unpacking and organizing the girls playroom. They made Intense Chocolate Cookies.

They also made this yummy strawberry pie

Isla is enjoying the newly organized playroom.

Love these cuties!

Painting Night

Wednesday night Amanda, Stephanie, Laurie, and I went to a painting class.

After teaching third grade all day, we were looking forward to a fun and relaxing evening.

We were surprised that we were the only people who signed up for the class.

We got started on the background first and then the feathers.

Amanda and I try to get selfies when we do fun activities.

Our instructor Sara took pictures while we worked.

Getting ready to add details.

Finished

Teams that paint, laugh, and have fun together, support one another through all kinds of challenges and celebrations!

This And That

Gary found a new recipe for Gluten Free Orange Chicken

It is yummy!

Isla has new Grinch pajamas.  She loves The Grinch, just like Papa.

We had a yummy roast and gluten free cornbread for Sunday dinner.

Erica is amazing. I have been having her do my hair for several years now.

Hair all freshened up.

Adeline made her own Forky

I made Old Fashioned Buttermilk pie for my book club.
Here's the recipe I used:
OLD TIME BUTTERMILK PIE
Serves: one pie serves 8 pieces
• 9-inch unbaked pie shell
• 1⁄2 cup butter
• 2 cups sugar
• 2 rounded Tbsp flour
• 4 eggs, beaten
• 1 cup buttermilk
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• Dash nutmeg (optional)
DIRECTIONS
1. Soften butter, add sugar, cream together well.
2. Add flour and eggs, beat well. Stir in buttermilk, vanilla, and nutmeg.
3. Pour into unbaked pie shell.
4. Bake at 350°F for 45 to 50 minutes. 5. Cool completely before serving.
6. This pie is also wonderful with a handful of chocolate chips, a handful of chopped nuts, and a handful of coconut added to the pie shell before you pour the filling in.

I picked the book for this month's discussion.  We discussed Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate
I've been a member of the book club for several years and I love getting together with this group of women and discussing books. I've read some books that I probably wouldn't have picked out for myself, but I've learned about some new authors that I enjoy reading their books.  I have found some books I didn't really enjoy, but it is always fun to try something new.

Here's some info about the book:
Memphis, 1939. Twelve-year-old Rill Foss and her four younger siblings live a magical life aboard their family’s Mississippi River shantyboat. But when their father must rush their mother to the hospital one stormy night, Rill is left in charge—until strangers arrive in force. Wrenched from all that is familiar and thrown into a Tennessee Children’s Home Society orphanage, the Foss children are assured that they will soon be returned to their parents—but they quickly realize the dark truth. At the mercy of the facility’s cruel director, Rill fights to keep her sisters and brother together in a world of danger and uncertainty.

Aiken, South Carolina, present day. Born into wealth and privilege, Avery Stafford seems to have it all: a successful career as a federal prosecutor, a handsome fiancÃĐ, and a lavish wedding on the horizon. But when Avery returns home to help her father weather a health crisis, a chance encounter leaves her with uncomfortable questions and compels her to take a journey through her family’s long-hidden history, on a path that will ultimately lead either to devastation or to redemption.

Based on one of America’s most notorious real-life scandals—in which Georgia Tann, director of a Memphis-based adoption organization, kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy families all over the country—Lisa Wingate’s riveting, wrenching, and ultimately uplifting tale reminds us how, even though the paths we take can lead to many places, the heart never forgets where we belong.

Pinch Visits

Pinch the mascot from our local minor league baseball team, The Blue Crabs came to visit at school.

The Tye-Dye Guy came with him and read a book to the students.

If the students read 4 books and fill out the form they were given, they get a free ticket to one of The Blue Crab Games.  My students loved the assembly and are excited about reading to get a free ticket.

Izzy's Room

Izzy got a new desk

and a cube shelf for her room.

Clay helped her put up some fun lights.

Check out the light show!

Checking On The Girls

Isla and Adeline have been sick.
We stopped by the Aina home and Isla was thrilled to see Papa!

Adeline has lost two teeth recently

Ahhhhhhhh

These two melt my heart

Valentines

Isla came over and did some cooking with Papa

They made a strawberry cheesecake.

Later, I made chocolate dipped strawberries.

Izzy's New Dresser

Liz found a dresser for Izzy on an online yard sale. Gary, Izzy, and Liz went and picked it up.

Izzy picked out paint colors

and pulls.

Gary was lucky to have a few warm days

so that he could paint

and sand and touch up the drawers.

The finished dresser in Izzy's room.
